  1. two liner thread. at least it's not a one-liner. Still though - a w.o.t.
  2. I think it's too much imo to have a rookie and a 21 yr old on every pairing - particularly when you're facing teams with a pair of top 6 lines like the Laffs literal draft lottery lines. I think a team needs at least one primary, high end shutdown pairing - right now this team has half of one in the absence of Tanev - and a second pairing that can also handle hard matchups, ideally a 'two-way' pairing...Having a pair of 'foundational' centers helps, but one of those lines (Sutter's) is still a bit shaky on one or both wings - so it's a challenge to keep the team grounded/stable in the present. I wouldn't mind it if the team experimented with groups that young, but at the end of a very challenging road trip where they've been blown out - I think they should give the team the best chance of winning possible - so stay as veteran as possible -and try to regain some confidence. All in all last game, score aside, doesn't look bad at all in terms of possession, they just need to simplify and eliminate most of the mental errors (easy to say, but when they're both exhausted and frustrated, maybe not so easy to execute).
  3. 5 LHD might be a bit challenging, but it's nice to see Juolevi back in the lineup. If they weren't so bloody young it would also be nice to see Chatfield remain in, and Benn, out - but two rookies and a 21 yr old is a bit much.
  4. another failed assumption - but it's not difficult to look at a player's outcomes if you bother. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/e/edleral01.html 4 pts, 14 games (missed with an injury). An absurdly low 30.6% ozone starts (only his rookie shutdown partner, Chatfield is in that range). 48.2% corsi is outstanding in that context. Actually has even better 'underlying' / 'possession' numbers this season, in the context of a radically struggling group. 21 hits (leads the blueline), 19 blocks And of course, as usual, leads the blueline in penalty killing minutes. And the 'had an excellent year last year' is actually a really weak qualifier. He's had an excellent career, period. Two years ago - exactly the same kind of outcomes as last year. 34 pts in 56 games, lead the blueline, +3 166 blocks (lead the team the last four years), 127 hits (2nd to Gudbranson). 41.1% ozone starts, 47.4 corsi, 2.8 on ice goals for 2.6 against, in hard minutes. 2nd to Tanev in pk minutes.
  5. thinking it'd be a good idea to scratch Edler is an absolutely horrible idea - but double down on your pseudo 'eye test'
  6. But, but he commited a few 'penalties' and fell down on an entry last game!
  7. The fantasy question includes factors you have not elaborated on - like the scoring format - and playoffs (if irl players must make the playoffs why would you give up a Bruin and a Blue, for example...) Karlsson - was never in favour of acquiring or signing him for various reasons - but he is now in a situation where he is playing 'hard' minutes - ie he's getting 40.9% ozone starts on a rethinging team (2nd lowest to Vlasic) ...he's a primary penalty killer at 2:56, 2 seconds off the top guy (again, Vlasic). Still, at 26:32, you'd hope he'd have more than 2 even strength pts, and at just under 4 powerplay minutes a night, 1 pp pt is pretty paltry. This is a pretty good indicator imo - for people who love to dump on guys here, who have played hard minutes through this rething - of what that context can do to your overall outcomes. A year ago, when he was up over 50% ozone starts (51.9), he scored 40 pts in 56 games - so I'd also caution about getting carried away with a small 10 game sample - he's highly unlikely to finish this season at this clip (ie 16 or 17 pts in 56 games...). But regardless whether he bounces back or not - he's not an asset - or contract you want - and playing for SJ certainly doesn't make him any more attractive if playoffs matter at all in your fantasy league.
  8. What a ridiculous take wadr. 33 pts in 59 games (2nd to Hughes) 26 of them at even strength (2 less than Hughes). +13 (blueline best). 162 blocks (team best) 108 hits (blueline best). 22;37 /game (team best). 42.9% ozone starts (2nd lowest on blueline), 49% corsi (2nd best on blueline - and only underlines how outstanding the above is). 3.4 on ice goals for per 60 at 5on5 - best on the blueline. 3.04 of pk ice time/game (2nd most on blueline). Absolute workhorse - and a steal at $5 million cap hit.
  9. I find that list borderline absurd tbh Phil. Boeser? Really? You've added a guy to that list who has been one of the hardest working, most consistent players (even when he was injured). A few weeks into the season and it's enough to call guys like EP and Hughes "entitled" and "lazy". I might agree that Pettersson has more to give - that he's not playing the same game without the puck that we're used to seeing of him - but to call these guys entitled and lazy is awfully hair-trigger - extremely premature - and it's also a subjective judgement of character that you are presuming based on....? I think it's your frustration speaking moreso than a 'prescription'.
  10. I get the math - the problem is the likelihood of playing for a team dominant enough over the next two decades to go to the Superbowl often enough to win 7 more times. One star quarterback is only one element. Like I said - good luck with that.
  11. Thought exercise for you. What's the likelihood that "everyone" has already raised the most obvious of ideas (about 30 or 40 times) in what you're "not going to read"?
  12. sidestep. Not going to argue about Tanev - who isn't the point. Btw - you do realize that Tanev is 31.....Older than Hamonic, Schmidt, and Myers...if you have such a problem with the 'old'.
  13. Are they losing because of Edler, Beagle and Sutter in your opinion? Or are you still dwelling on 2016/LE?
  14. 'Keep' / bring back Linden. Apologize if necessary. Give him more money. Don't reneg on his complete jurisdiction over hockey decisions. Keep Benning and Green Keep Malhotra. Meh, realistically, 'we' probably have to 'free Manny' - he's a head coach in the near future imo. Keep Tanev.
  15. Colin Miller 3 pts, (2 of them on the powerplay), -7, 10 games. 51.6% ozone starts 1.2 on ice goals for per 60 3.9 against (-2.7) .863 on ice sv% Last season 11 pts, 8 at evs, -9, 51 games. 50.1% ozone starts. Not exactly an 'offensive' D that teams will be lining up to take (with that 3.85 million x 2 years contract) off your hands... Hard pass.
  16. if you're looking for someone that provides no defense, stick with the proposal in the OP. Colin Miller. Make it "Miller and Miller" (no offense to JT intended here - just a namesake). ....specialize in 'offensive law'....litigators...focus on lawsuits/suing people. and no offense where Colin Miller is concerned - meaning, he provides no offense either. Perfect acquisition if we want another 4 millionish of wasted cap space around. (hard pass on the Virtanen, Miller aspect of that deal, btw).
  17. If you think this market is angry now - just imagine if they'd done as you suggest - traded Demko and signed Markstrom. I think it's pretty clear why they didn't re-sign Toffoli - covid cap stall, no contract movement league-wide, and a couple damn good RW prospects (deepest part of the prospect pool). I think they 'should have' prioritized Tanev - but you don't always get what you want. And in fairness, among all the other bizarre context - this strange thing of an OEL wanting to come here did pose an either/or 'dilemna' for them. That said, my preference was to take care of Tanev, first. At least the Schmidt opportunity presented - but still - the top shutdown unit is much weaker without him, Hughes doesn't have that situational partner to 'shelter' him - and to make matters worse, the RHD veteran they did sign, struggled and then got injured.... Whatever. Chatfield getting forged by fire as a rookie shutdown pairing guy haha.
  18. this talk of Mahomes winning 8 Superbowl, being in tons of Superbowls in the future, winning a ton...sounds pretty ridiculous to me. Not a Brady 'fan' whatsoever, but good luck with that.
