not many come to mind, that's for sure - aside from Sebastian Aho -and he turned out alright for the Canes... his first 11 games he had 5 pts (3 were powerplay pts) and was -3....he had 54.7% offensive zone starts and played 16:47/game that season Hoglander has 6 pts (all at even strength), +1, 47.3% ozone starts, and is playing 14:09/game.

I think getting Miller back was the first big step in righting the team. But I also think getting Sutter back to center - anchoring that 2nd 'bottom six' line was big - this team is so well balanced when they can run those two shutdown units out there. They may give up shots - but the goal metrics really seem to level out.....

I tend to look at these things quite differently. Neither Juolevi or Virtanen are in the lineup. Is that because they're unworthy? Not necessarily. The team has quality depth imo - and quality youth - and it's a few games in the midst of a 56 game sprint... At some point a good young player like Jake, or Gaudette, or both - might not find their future with this group. But I wouldn't be writing off any of them. The positive 'problem' to have here - they have very good quality young players down through their depth. They'll need it.

He was an absolute force when he'd put his head down and bulled his way to the net. My point isn't to deny Bert's (relatively one-dimensional) talent - but to point out that he wasn't really a beast until about age 26 (decent production to that point, but also a bit misleading/inflated by the state of the game). But the WCE came later - started to roll when Bertuzzi was 26 - a year after Morrison arrived from the Mogilny deal. The problem for the WCE came when teams eventually figured them out. The way to beat them - was to forecheck the hell out of that line. Both Naslund and Bertuzzi - were weak at best inside their blueline - and not exactly engaged - while Morrison, who wasn't a big center, handled the bulk of the battle for that line. But in the meantime, they'd had their hay-day.

"Stud" is a stretch imo - at 24 he was +7 goals and +7 assists over Virtanen's last season - and still a completely vacant player without the puck. Keeping in mind that 25/25 in the waning days of pond hockey isn't as impressive as it may seem (relative to 18/18 playing 13:05 a night on the Canucks 3rd line). Naslund, Cassels, Mogiliny, Captain dipcrap - there were a few decent linemates to help Bert produce....
