  1. I don't want to "wat" this - but we do need a [?] emoji. How were either of those goals about Baumgartner?
  2. yes, and they just signed a player loan agreement with the Peopletoba Moose.
  3. Whoda thunk a 6-5 shootout with Price and Holtby? Have no idea what's gonna happen tonight.
  4. I thought the team was already very young integrating Hoglander and Juolevi into a group that already had a lot of 25 and under guys in the lineup. Whatever. Let's add a couple more!
  5. They've never had this many near NHL ready / viable depth D at the AHL level. Really - Brisebois and Sautner are also probably serviceable as depth D - so if they need to draw upon their organizational depth, they have internal competition. There have been seasons recently where they've used a dozen or more defenseman, so some of these young guys may get a chance to force their way in.
  6. Looking forward to seeing how Chatfield fares supporting Hughes - what a big opportunity to step up. Hughes / that pairing will probably not play as much as Hughes otherwise does so may be an opportunity to ease off the pressure/workload on Hughes at the same time.
  7. I don't know why that may be the case - but Benn has been a disappointment here. His puck movement last season was hard to watch. I agreed with giving Chatfield a shot over him and it's hard to argue if they elect to get Rafferty into the mix - one thing that might be advantageous in spite of the lack of NHL experience is Juolevi, Chatfield and Rafferty's familiarity with each other (from Utica).
  8. It would be great to see all of Juolevi, Chatfield and Rafferty in the lineup. What the hell. Let it rip.
  9. should have traded Roussel and signed Tanev. Toffoli - a great player - nevertheless gets in the way of the biggest bottleneck in the pipeline - RW - Boeser, Hoglander, Podkolzin - and Virtanen already here - not signing Toffoli was a bit of a painful casualty of the Covid cap crunch, but it was the necessary decision. The team needed/needs Schmidt more - which was where their primary cap was spent this offseason - and if I'd have had a second priority it would have been Hughes partner = re-signing Tanev. Toffoli is also a couple years more term than JV and a couple more million of cap hit - they're not really comparables - they would not be in the same place in the lineup (Toffoli would bump Hoglander out of the top 6).
  10. I think he gets a ridiculous amount of 'reputation' penalties that are downright garbage calls. I don't mind his game overall - but I'd love to get a young guy like Paul - who has all the indicators of a very good/valuable young two way player. Very good faceoff guy at his age, strong physical game, excellent defensive instincts, great size - with some upside. He'd be my #1 target among guys that might be somewhat undervalued - and his contract is very reasonable. Not sure how much sweetener it would take - but - just do it imo. The other aspect is banking a bit of Roussel's cap - any way that they can get rid of some of the EP and Hughes bonus cap up front this year imo is also a worthwhile 'bonus' imol
  11. He's not really a 4th liner - true - but the old categories don't really apply in present day NHL imo. He's playing 16:21 game - 7th among forwards...
  12. they've played some together this year - and Myers was his secondary partner last season.
  13. if only we had 2 x Motte. That would be a very good 3rd line imo - but hard to separate Motte and Beagle. What I'd love to see....(an old proposal and it may be getting too late to poach him, but)... To Ottawa Roussel 3rd rd pick (may need to sweeten more than that - which I'd seriously consider). To Van Nick Paul Paul imo would be an excellent complement to this group.
  14. A better take than most. The irony is that people here are 'tired' of Virtanen and yet the vast majority of them repeat the same tired misrepresentations of him. His positive outcomes this year, once again, reflect upon the same strengths that he's shown throughout his young career. Ie - he once again leads the team in takeaways - but is still, alllegedly a vacant player without the puck who has no hockey iq (projection for the most part) His on ice goal differential is the best on the team. 3.3 on ice goals for per 60 (5on5) 1.1 against. +2.2 .969 on ice sv% It's ironic the way the 'analytics' types steer clear of Virtanen's.....because they repeatedly contradict the pissy 'storylines'. Regardless of what people fishbowl - those are winning outcomes / nothing to really complain about - and important to have players that can move up and down the lineup (particularly when guys like Leivo were not re-signed). He's been a good complement for Gaudette - they've looked good together and have generated a respectable amount of opportunities. I think that's actually a 3rd line that has a lot of jam / could be hard to handle and could provide good secondary scoring.
  15. The rust is understandable. Regardless, though - I'm not sure he's the 'right' partner for Hughes (their struggles are compounding each other's). Probably too early to say that - and right on the heels of a rough night can further skew impressions, but.... Hughes had a nightmare outing....15 ozone starts, 1 dzone, outshot 5on5, -4...... I feel like Hughes needs a highly mobile partner. Maybe Chatfield could grow into that guy - (I know people will tend to knee-jerk reject the idea based largely on pedigree) but he does have a measure of that Tanev 'foundation' of quick decision making, good mobility and willingness to battle...
  16. just do your job. we don't need the play by play. not sure "gods" tend to give pbp on their godding. you must be new on the job.
  17. Is this the fishbowl forever over one dump in thread? Seriously the micro obsession with every perceived inadequacy of Virtanen is borderline pathetic folks. What would you do with yourselves if they actually traded Virtanen? Maybe there should be a designated dwell-on-Virtanen GDT/PGT echo chamber where you can get together and minutae to a whole nother level.
  18. Game 1 30% ozone starts 50% corsi Game 2 50% ozone starts 60.9% corsi (28 on ice shot attempts for) 1 goal. I think the comments were mostly based on gazing at one or two incidents - ie he took a few (unlucky , actually) penalties.
  19. The one thing I prefer about this schedule is that all those back to backs are against teams that played the night before - unlike regular schedules where you're often both travelling between games and facing a team that did not play the night before. This season - all the teams are in relatively the same boat.
  20. Beagle and Motte - once again - crushed it last night. Beagle 18.2% ozone starts 51.9% corsi Motte 22.2% ozone starts 57.7% corsi They've been doing this every night thus far - leading the team. 59.5% corsi for Motte 56.4% for Beagle Both were +1 last night in shutdown, Motte adding a goal and 9 HITS! Nearly impossible to sustain these kinds of numbers - but thus far they've been "foundational"+ to say the least.
