  1. You guys are overstating the Virtanen dump in. End of an overtime shift - two other guys changing - he himself needing to change - on the far side of the ice - and would be going 1 on 3 (again late in a shift) - while being angled off after the red line. It wasn't anywhere near the representations here imo - it was the 'safe' play, ironically (even reversing the puck back to Holtby would have been higher risk in that circumstance imo, and attempting to beat the defender wide, if he gives up that puck, it's an on 0 the other way.
  2. ? Are you sure? Is that universal? There seems to be some blurry lines (ie Miller returned sooner than I had anticipated). I wouldn't know where Hainsey is - Ottawa? The U.S. - where he'd need to travel from - whether he's been quarantining hoping to sign an NHL contract or not - so I wonder what the specifics would be?
  3. they might be able to survive with that group for a while - but it would certainly be trial by fire. I like their youth/AHL depth with guys like Brisebois, Rathbone, Sautner...but if you have to go to any of them you're not getting any more experience. if it were long term I'd probably be calling Ron Hainsey's agent.
  4. Need at least one of Edler and Hamonic to be ok. Losing both of them - would be very difficult to manage. Probably looking at a pair of rookies and a sophomore if that were the case. Might have to go out and sign Hainsey....
  5. I don't think the 'comparisons' are about attempting to equate Chatfield - who has played one NHL game - with top 4 guys that were borderline top pairing - it's more about the type/style of game he plays.
  6. I see him more like Tanev than Bieksa - for a couple reasons - first being his mentality (quick-aggressive play reader with very good anticipation) - and the kind of mobility he has (Bieksa was a pretty good north to south skater- but I see Chatfield's skating - lateral movement / pivoting-edging being more like Tanev's) - with a similar willingness to take the hit one-mindedness to moving the puck. I also don't expect Bieksa's upside from Chatfield - I think Chatfield will play a role more like Tanev's than Bieksa's.
  7. these Habs Canucks games always seem to be a track meet. Looking forward to an entire season of these matchups. I think the Habs are the best team in the "East" - I'd put my money on them over the Leafs. That Weber Petry 1/2 is enviable - and playing in front of Price. Really like the bulk of their moves over the past few years (post-Drouin deal they've done some excellent team-building imo)
  8. I'm not concerned about EP - or Hughes - both of whom are struggling - and we're not used to seeing it - they have been unreal early in their careers. I think missing training camp and preseason time hurts the young players more than the veterans - beyond just development and ability to step into systems with experience. The young players, moreso, need the time building their (situational/preseason) conditioning - they don't necessarily have the base/stamina/fitness/strength of players 25 and older. So if they are struggling somewhat to find another gear - it's still very relatively early in the season. They also, on the other hand - have the blessing of recovering more quickly - so that could counterbalance things somewhat for them in these back to back type situations - once they are up to peak conditioning - they may have their legs in those second nights....It'll be interesting to see how this team fares in terms of sustaining their energy. If the season thus far is an indicator - it'll be a great skating division - the games will be up tempo all year.
  9. it looks like they may have gotten the spaghetti legs behind them - solid skating effort for 60 minutes - maybe their first since opening night. we'll see how they recover for another one tomorrow.
  10. Chatfield has been solid. Beagle was outstanding in the 3rd - down a D - some great shutdown.
  11. Hughes has been struggling without the puck....probably another thing compounding Hamonic's struggles.
  12. the one area the Canucks have a decided edge is in the Habs trying to matchup against Miller and Horvat.
