  1. the mopey fanbase is rubbing off.
  2. ticky tack. If he hadn't received a penalty at the time, perhaps...but both? ticky tack. If the league were consistent and fined every incident like this....there'd be fines coming out of every game.
  3. finally a hockeygod thread worth reading. [however - hockeygod intervention, or simple law of averages /return to mean?] Whatever. thanks for the entertainment. I think this 'should' be your new thing.
  4. I agree - it's going to be necessary to use their depth. The compacted grind of the season is going to be a challenge (as always) for young players. I think people are probably getting ahead of themselves with expectations as a result of advancing in the playoffs. Those circumstances were somewhat opportune for Vancouver - the ability to rest their youth after the grind of a regular season - and then step relatvely fresh into the bubble (whereas the playoffs typically follow a very long grind that is difficult for young players to sustain throughout. I think they've reached a 'critical mass' point with youth - integrating another wave into an already young lineup - Hoglander, Juolevi, to Demko, EP, Boeser, Hughes, Gaudette, MacEwen (Virtanen and Motte not exactly 'veterans') - that's virtually half a lineup of young players. The Habs, by contrast, who on some levels also feature a fair amount of youth in their lineup, are still pretty much limited to 3 centers and a third pairing D.... While I think the bubble circumstances were somewhat of a relative advantage for young teams compared to 'normal' - I think the opposite is the case when you have a young group with such an abbreviated training camp / preseason, etc. Not only does it effect Green's ability to work them into systems, but young players also don't tend to have as strong a 'foundation' of fitness, endurance.... So it'll be an interesting set of outlier variables. That said - special teams rust - which is the primary concern of most - a pivotal factor in the 3 game slide - are not as 'long term' concerns as the balance of youth in the group - so I'm not expecting the season to reflect as strongly on these early games as some folks panicking here might, looking back further down the road this season.
  5. Montreal "should" be 3-0 - the Laffs had no business winning the opener. Habs looking very good imo - solid top 4 - good depth (particularly improved on the wings and with bringing in Edmundson and Chiarot)... The one area the Canucks would need to capitalize on is their experience at center. Danault is the one veteran - and the only good faceoff guy among their group. Suzuki, Kotkaniemi and Evans are all quite green - and understandably get dominated on draws. Aside from that they have a good, experienced, balanced, deep supporting cast.... Really - all they need to figure is a way to Drouin, Raymond and a 1st their way to Dubois and they're set.
  6. LOL. Just starting to watch this game - and they're trolling me with Kelly fn Hrudey as "colour".
  7. There is never really an "explanation" for when a team goes through a streak they would rather not. The bottom line - the veterans like Edler, Beagle, Hamonic, Sutter, Schmidt, Roussel - who have lead the team in penalty klling minutes - are all long term PROVEN very good penalty killers - and we are talking about tiny samples here (ie where a few goals makes a HUGE difference / impression - ie 2/10 as opposed to 4/10 = and no one is talking about it) - overlapping with / amplified by the powerplay not producing anything. Two game sample = relatively meaningless. People micro-dwelling on a game or two lose sight of the fact that this happens regularly - to any team. The veterans are of no concern. And the young, talented powerplay guys - will get theirs. There really is no point fishbowling it - getting anxious over snapshots.
  8. They have lacked some intensity the last couple games. While they have a handful of players with a half dozen or handful of hits (6/5) - Beagle, Motte, MacEwen, and Edler - most people would probably not anticipate that the last guy in the group would be Boeser. Point isn't necessarily to single out any particular player - they (probably) need to be more aggressive overall as a group throughout the lineup - but Roussel with a pair of hits through 3 games, Horvat 2, Hamonic 1....maybe the types of players the team needs more 'heaviness' from.
  9. That is priceless. And (posted this before, but maybe worth repeating).... NHL games experience: Pettersson 141 Boeser 199 Hoglander 2 Gaudette 122 MacEwen 23 Motte 189 Hughes 75 Juolevi 2 Demko 38 So looks like there's room for about 1 more on JT's back. Anyhow - that's a pretty significant list / amount of youth / reasons to be patient with the team (ie when they're inconsistent) - or have dry spells on the powerplay (they all go through dry spells and streaks - but this group is exceptionally talented and has all the elements, so no need to fret imo)....
  10. With Schmidt you also avoid the 6th and 7th years of term at 8.25 (and a NMC) - when OEL will be 35, 36 years old....(and save 2.3 million in cap every season in the meantime...) 5 x 5.95 vs 7 x 8.25
  11. perhaps all the more reason for those two teams to work out a deal involving Laine, Roslovic and Dubois. I'd love to see Dubois in Winnipeg.
  12. The Blues had a lineup full of guys suffering from Covid!! Played 7 games vs our guys.... And yet - no Canucks appear to have had it. Cool story.
  13. or dial back to 2015? (in which case, may as well stick with Hamonic).
  14. That might explain why he looked so "off" / disengaged last game. Have never seen him aloof like that - and it happened a number of times.
  15. The Roslovic discussion - re:Van - is relatively pointless imo - he's not going to play top 6 minutes here, at least certainly not at center - and he's no upgrade over a number of young wingers this franchise already has. As for a 3C - if they were looking to acquire a young forward that could grown into a very good 3C - I would be pursuing Nick Paul as opposed to most of the names that get thrown around - but do so quickly because that price is only going to escalate imo.
  16. 12 goals, 19 assists, sub 50% faceoff guy, 56.4% ozone starts... He's just not "all that". Imagine if Virtanen (who had better production in less opportune minutes) - were publicly complaining about not getting top 6 minutes.... I'd say that Roslovic is premature and that the 'adults' advising him might give him a bit more of a reality check... However - at the same time, on a side note - it is impossible not to notice how many players are not happy with the Jets...(a steady stream of significant talent wanting out of there) - and I'm not going to tag that on the city - I have to wonder how much Maurice factors in (he may not be Tortorella, but ...) I think I probably would have gone with a different coach some time ago (and not simply based on an assumption that he doesn't build great relationships with his players). Anyhow - it's sad to see that franchise take so many losses - they were absolutely shafted at a time they had built a very good team (and sent to a desert). Wadr to Vancouver - that fan base probably deserves better (moreso than this one).
  17. what a horrible take - completely oblivious noob material. the username is completely unfitting.
  18. that's not the information I read on more than one waiver 'guide'. If that is true it's something that changed when the CBA re-upped - and no one has noted it.
  19. Fantenburg was very good - I'm quite surprised that he did not get an NHL contract (assuming he wanted one - he may have preferred Europe/who knows). He may not have re-signed here because of the possibility of sitting most of the season (with Juolevi ready/stepping in). Not only was Hamonic stepping into NHL games after very little on-ice preparation - but he also had McMe1st to deal with his first two nights (back to back)....so I'm going to reserve assessment. At 1.25 it's impossible to argue with that signing (or a comparable, like Hainsey, who like Fantenburg does not have an NHL re-up). If there were one thing I might have done differently - it would have been to move Benn and a guy like Roussel - to clear the cap for Tanev. The existing group with Tanev in place of Hamonic - I really like their chances. And replacing Roussel - ie with a Leivo - should not have been that difficult. But it takes two, so I can't assume that would have been possible (however, if it took a moderate asset to lubricate those deals, so be it).
  20. ? Of course they can trade a player claimed on waivers. It appears you did not read the question - or the answer. If you intend to trade a player you acquired via waivers - that player has to be offered to the other teams that made a claim (that were lower on the cue and therefore did not get the player), and to the original team that waived him (if they decide to take that player back, they can assign the player to their AHL franchise without waiving them a second time). You cannot claim a player via waivers and trade them back to the team you claimed them from. That was the question - not whether you can trade a player you claimed.
