my guess would be they went with him because he was the bpa on their draft list.

we have a pair of 5th and 6ths today, don't we? good draft to have longshot late lottery picks imo. otherwise, not so great.
-
haha with Stealth bringing back the LE rep! the day after he's gone.
-
My regards to the Delorme family.

unlike you - nothing random whatsoever about your takes. I could post them for you ahead of time if you'd like to save some time.

Omg what an awful pick. We shoulda paid Brackett! #squamtweet #makesyouwonder

some great options still there at 40....

After the LE and Roussel comments I was concerned you were gonna disrespect Beagle - but you nailed exactly the kind of guy he is - which is why I love him so much. I'm just waiting for the follow up deal where Arizona sends him back to us for a player/prospect at the margins of our lineup - with cap retained. Oh, would I laugh. One thing that I doubt has been mentioned - Beagle has a 5 team NTC that he probably could have exercised here (hard to imagine many worse destinations than the present Coyotes) - but he appears to have been willing to accomodate the club here....character guy.

The most hits Edler ever threw in a season was 157 - OEL topped that 3 times. Edler's threw 143 hits and 127 in his next highest totals. OEL topped 127 x 7 times. OEL has more hits than Edler the past three seasons But if you listen to some folks on here - he's "soft" LOEL. And can't skate / is "slow". But most people - who have eyes - consider him a highly mobile, smooth/fluid skater. He's outscored Edler 98 - 75 over the past three seasons. He's done so while producing on the powerplay - while Edler has had far more productive forwards to play with 5on5. There is a lot of nuance in 'comparing' these two - I'd consider Edler's 'underlying' numbers better than OEL's over that period - but at the same time, I'd consider Edler's partners over that time to be better than OEL's. The point here is not really a 'comparison' of the two - but to point out that OEL is going to be a slightly (1+ million) higher cap hit than Edler over the same period of their careers (30-35). At age 30 - Edler had the worst season of his career - actually 3 of 4 seasons in that stretch he had 20, 21, 22 pt seasons - all of which would be career worst production for OEL. OEL just had a season where he was more than a .5ppg player - and yet is allegedly the worst contract in the NHL - a league with contracts like Gardiner's, Skinner's, Ladd's, LE's, etc.... Some people just try too hard to sandbag good players. Edler went through the same thing here - he was a favorite whipping boy for years - but has been one fo the best defensemen in franchise history...

44 points 23:38 / game 162 hits But the guy has been a soft, slow, overpaid 3rd pairing defenseman for the last three yearz! Worst contract in the entire league! Seriously - that claim is embarrassing. Shoulda been a one-for-one for LE! Honestly - I got more than tired of the OEL rumours- particularly once it became clear how deluded Arizona was in seeking a ridiculous return for him - but as 1/3 of the value in this deal....including Garland - taking LE and Roussel (and my man Beagle)....much more in line with what most of us would have found acceptable last summer.

Chychrun was Arizona's top powerplay minutes D. Might want to do your homework. You're also making an assumption that a player - whose principal partner 5on5 had 2 point this season (Lyubushkin) - is going to see his 5on5 production drop. OEL's secondary 5on5 partner was Demers - who had 4 points. The Canucks also have considerably more scoring threat in their forward group (and added Arizona's 3rd leading scorer) - and the possibility that OEL partners on the right side of Hughes...would do what to the assumptions you're making? What will happen to OEL's production if the Canucks opt for a 2D 3F top powerplay unit? That story about OEL being a third pairing D that can't be deployed in 'hard matchups'....is hero-chart quality material wadr.

I have a feeling Guenther is going to be better than a few of the guys taken before him, but at the same time - he's yet another RW - probably the position of least need for this organization - Boeser, Hoglander and now Garland - as well as Podkolzin - (and Jake if he ever recovers)..... I also have a bit of a 'bias' towards the value of defensemen and centers, so unless a winger is one helluva talent, all things considered I'd prefer to take care of the 'battery' positions.

I originally thought they'd gotten two 1sts - but wasn't one of them a swap of 1sts in this draft? I thought that Columbus team was going to be something - but they really shouldn't have gone with such a divisive guy behind their bench imo.
-
I didn't care for the Johnson pick, right before Edvinsson goes, (particularly when you consider they just dealt their #1D). Sillinger pick I liked - but I would have taken Lambos over Ceulemans.
-
Gotta like what Detroit got a 6 and 15. Also like what Columbus got at 12, and the Peg at 18. Ok with letting go of the 9th overall - although I found Guenther very well-spoken - not sure bpa lined up very well with organizational need.
-
Not sure why - but have a 'hunch' we're gonna get Heimosalmi or Knies.
-
I don't mind this panel. Cosentino takes a bit too much air - but otherwise, not a hard group to listen to.
-
We're gonna get a good player at 40.
-
now that's a surprising pick considering....he withdrew himself.
-
ffs did this really start over 3 hours ago and still not done the first round?
-
not sure why that asshat Bettman would think anyone in the hockey world wants to watch him moderate this draft. zero sense of what his customers want. well played, Gary, you wannabe
