  1. President's trophy one-upped by being on a roll entering the playoffs. Gotta love the talent, youth, size, speed, grit of that Bluejackets lineup.
  2. That was a thing of beauty. Nelso, Cizikas, Eberle, Bailey, Pelech....clutch. The Pens acquisitions - Gud, Bjugstad, McCann = looked quite good - the problem was their core was suffocated by the Isles. Anyhow - have liked the Isles for some time and nice to see them dominate Pittsburgh.
  3. ? Those are your words - that are an odd assumption - one extreme counterpoint to another. If someone thinks they (Vegas) were extremely/overly fortunate with the expansion terms - it doesn't follow that they should be sentenced to a decade or irrelevence.
  4. Yeah Rugby - every major sports media shared your opinion lol - not too deluded, are you? quote just one that thought Benning's intention was to make another Stanley Cup run. Or quote Benning. Good luck with that.
  5. in other words, hate based on a fantasy/myth of your own inception.
  6. Hicketts and Bozak if I read if correctly. Or any Victoria Royals. But apparently Kapanen is too "soft"? I'm having a hard time finding the point. Size, skill, character, born in B.C, or at least plays his junior hockey here.... Not sure why there's no acquire Shea Weber thread yet.
  7. I agree. I'm tired of people here BOO HOO ing over the Pettersson and Hughes picks and this mediocre rebuild season. The Canucks need to learn how to draft. This BPA stuff is b.s. BBCHLerA is the way to go.
  8. Yeah - it was highly favourable and designed to furnish them with exceptional depth - and not only their complement of picks (including a 3rd overall) - but also a wealth of tradeable assets if they selected well. I think people in general seriously under-rated what you can get taking 4th D and 7/8F from every team in the league. I don't like how spoon-fed the conditions were for them - I don't think it's fair to the fanbases / customers in the rest of the league - and the payday the NHL got does not translate back to them imo - it comes at their/our expense.
  9. It's a tough one - because as you note, Svechnikov was not relenting and had a bit of a cat-seeing-a-tiger reflection in the mirror thing going on. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily mean you want to see a teenager fed his lunch because his ego is out of whack and he doesn't realize the strenght/size/experience deficit he's taking on. Hopefully it's not a lesson that costs Svechnikov some mental health in the end - and hopefully other young players might learn from it. When you're 19 you don't necessarily realize that you're probably a half-decade from your true strength/physical maturity - you might hope that OV takes it a bit easier on him, but it is the playoffs, it's high stakes, and the young guy kept coming at him, so it's hard to judge him for responding with a serious reality check. I loved how Brind'Amour handled it post-game.
  10. That was a real stand-up post game interview that Brind'Amour gave. Seriously level-headed guy - something really refreshing in the mental climate of these days. I have a lot of respect for him - and how he handled that situation - couldn't have said it better imo. Doing the old hood proud imo.
  11. That comes from how a knife is used - any knife with hard use will dull. Says little about the quality of the knife though.
  12. Agreed (and inb4 the mindless 'this guy is debris/disposable junk' prattle). 12 goals while playing primarily a shutdown role in a depleted group - is not whipping boy material - but nevertheless, CDC needs its. 41.4% ozone starts, 48.5% corsi 2:24 of penalty kill ice-time/game 32 takeaways, 9 giveaways, +23 turnover differential (only better differential was Virtanen at +24) 2.0 on ice goals against per 60 was the lowest on the team and outstanding in the type of minutes he plays Good versatile utility forward that can play in variable situations.
  13. Kudos to the OP. No better way to attract a bunch of heat on CDC than suggest an increased role for a favoured CDC whipping boy.
  14. To be clear - I'm not knocking the OP's idea, just the originality of it. For those folks who think it's an awful idea: here are some counterpoints to the negativity. Eriksson has 6 pts in 11% of his 5 on 5 ice time playing with these two. If you extrapolate that over a season - it's unrealistic to expect that high of a production rate (he's probably never going to score 50 points at even strength again) but it's probably not unreasonable to expect a solid uptick from the 26 he had this year. Eriksson's production came while getting 38% ozone starts, and 14 minutes of ice time - and again. playing with Horvat, Pearson would result in an uptick on both. Both Pearson and Horvat handle a heavier game - something that decreased LE's need to be a principal forechecker. Nevertheless, Eriksson is a good hard areas scorer - loves to vacuum up rebounds with that long reach of his - and moreover handles the defensive side of the game very well - something Horvat's line deals with in excessive volumes, particularly when the team isn't healthy. The Horvat Pearson line also tends to be a transition scoring line - something that an LE is apt with - a very good pitch and catch possession player. I think this type of line configuration might actually enhance Eriksson's utility moreso than playing with a couple Sedin types - that could be just the type of deployment to recover his productivity.
  15. I hear very little of that - what I hear people focusing on is getting a LW to play with Pettersson = more of a primary need imo.
  16. Pearson Horvat Eriksson Was Eriksson's 3rd most common line combination over the season - and it took only 19 games with Pearson here for that to be the case. Clearly - Green thought of this quite some time ago. In 11% of his 5 on 5 ice time with these two linemates, Eriksson scored 23.1% of his points.
  17. ? Bolded part isn't accurate. Kadri does not kill penalties - and he takes primarily ozone starts. Moreover, Sutter's production, now that Kadri isn't playing 2nd line minutes, is actually better than Kadri's, with the exception of Kadri's considerable powerplay ice time. Sutter is the better defensive center. The Canucks have a pair of Malhotra types in Sutter and Beagle - the Leafs = need one. Kadri this year as a "3C". 52.9% ozone starts / 54.0% corsi 2:45 powerplay ice time/game 0:00 penalty kill ice time. Considerable amount of his points come on the powerplay = 31 even strength, 13 powerplay Sutter (in Van). 36.1% ozone starts, 44.9% corsi 0:12 power play ice time game 3:05 penalty kill ice time game Has averaged 33 pts per 82 games here, 28/82 at even strength, another 6 shorthanded points = 31 pts/82 at even strength or shorthanded.
  18. Karlson does lead defensemen in playoff scoring - and had 18 pts in 19 playoff games in 16/17. It's true that team's need some size, physicality, even intimidation (if possible) on their blueline - but at the same time you can't pass on a bpa (if he were that) simply because they're not ideal size. You simply need to add that by other means if you use this pick on a skilled blueliner. Maybe Seider or Broberg turn out to be the bpa - ideally the RHD though. The bigger bluelines though - tend to look pretty good in the playoffs.
  19. Get rid of the 'debris' - like Tanev, Sutter.....Get all the 7th round pickz. All problemz zolved.
  20. The Tortorella year was the darkest of the post-AV years.
  21. You could see one of the fault-lines with the Leafs build at the end of that game. A good effort to prevent the Bruins from yet another playoff comeback.... But something Babcock noted earlier in the year......he couldn't trust his 4th line in key situations in the 3rd period. Tonight - the last 3 or 4 minutes - Tavares out there for dzone faceoff after dzone faceoff. Did a good enough job - he's a very good faceoff guy - but as your late game shutdown guy - also your clear #1 center....and the same goes for Marner - blocking shots in his zone at the end of the game....They weren't stuck out there, they weren't trapped after an icing - these are the guys that Babcock has to lean on to close out the game for them. A good win - but a horrible formula for longer term playoff success. Blocked shots are typically how the Tanevs, Sutter, Beagles get injured - really important shutdown players for the Canucks - but they're there so the EPs don't have to be. One injury to a Tavares or Marner - and the series is done, period. Matthews 'broke out' tonight and was still beaten overall - was a minus again, and completely vacant on the Bruins opening goal. In any event, with the Canucks it woud be Sutter, Beagle, and then Horvat, before you ever saw the EP/Boeser type players blocking shots in the closing minutes trying to play shutdown to protect a lead. For the Leafs #proper-rebuild - say they advance through this round, and beyond....how do the Tavares/Marner types endure through this kind usage with the increasing grind of the playoffs... I'm not suggesting the Leafs need to have to have a couple dedicated shutdown lines - but they sure could use a Jay Beagle type in circumstances like those...
  22. Always has. Not information that Benning needs - not something I'm worried he might not realize.
  23. 2) is a non-starter no fn thank you. Kapanen - good luck with the offersheet - I'd take him in a heartbeat (and would have for some time now) - but the idea that he's 'untapped potential' is somewhat odd considering he's a 20 goal scorer, 44 pt 22 year old. I think the idea is a year or two late - but I'm all for acquiring the guy - by reasonable means. Likewise, the Leasf could be vulnerable where Johnsson is concerned - an offersheet could at the very least force them to match more than they're comfortable with - and given the tight spot they've put themselves in, this could bite them later if not sooner.
