I agree with Cherry - a rare occasion - but the Kadri types need to shut their face and play - and stop floundering around like primadonna soccer players. Toronto needs to get their shizz together and try to win the 3rd period - whether or not they come back in this game. They can't allow Boston to start rolling over them - and head home on their heels.

there sure seems to be a lot to like about him Great skater Great shot Great vision High compete level high level hockey intelligence tested against men / in SHL at young age mindful defensively / aggressive / responsible. and he's also a RHD is he ideal size? not sure that's as vital in 'today's NHL' as the ability to compete, skate, etc.

JB: I’ll make the phone call about the 1st overall pick
oldnews replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Canucks Talk
Agree entirely. Probably no one as overhyped and over-rated as Matthews has been. If the game were simply about one team's scoring, he's 'elite' But the game goes both ways. He's as spoon-fed as any Leaf at 58.4% ozone starts. 1 second less powerplay ice-time / game than Tavares - in other words as much pp ice time as anyone on the Leafs. 3.9 on ice goals against per 60 is the worst on the Leafs - by a fair margin. He's -9 in the what are as opportune minutes as any Leaf plays.... He has a long way to go in developing his game without the puck to be considered one of the best in the game. And further, he needs to start showing up when it matters - in the playoffs - where he's looking as vacant as he did in last year's postseason. Personally, I'd deal him to cash in on his pedigree - would have tried to do so before this point because I think the Leafs would be / would have been a better team if they had another young top 4 D, and a relative replacement forward - which they could probably get for him. I think the irony is that the tank thing, at least in the Leafs case - looks as much like a 'speed up the rebuild' thing as anything. They have merely one other pick in their lineup (Dermott, a high 2nd and 6th D) from the "stockpile the picks" era. It was a cool story while it lasted, but....they still have work to do imo. -
yeah - I'm not an advocate of burning craploads of assets to move up - when there are marginally/relatively comparable players throughout the range. I also think some of the ideas being floated - of moving the pick for D-help now - are ironic considering all the outrage over alleged attempts to 'speed up' the rebuild. Benning has never spent anything near a 10th overall pick (always longer shot 2nd/3rd,4th round pick) and has always acquired pieces he felt would be part of the group moving forward. Those are understandable/acceptable expenditures imo - spending a 10th overall is another matter. Unless we are getting a Chabot, Morrisey, Provorov, Werenski or whomever - guys that quality and age or younger - and I'd say dream on if those are people's targets - I can't see the point. When you look at most drafts - the 1st overall doesn't necessarily turn out to be the best player in the end (every year there seems to be 'generational player' hype around 1/2) - and there are endless examples of 7 being better than 3, 10 better than 5, etc, etc.... Just take the player they think is best at 10 - don't spend the farm to move up, and don't trade the pick (of course there are extremely slim possibilities that those scenarios make sense for the team, but I give that an extremely low likelihood). The more people start to look at the actual players likely to be available, imo the less the hype over a few guys perceived to be world's better.

[Signing] Capitals re-sign Nic Dowd
oldnews replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
"Dude" - you whiff on the point. Malhotra's numbers after his eye injury: 58.5% faceoffs 12.9% ozone starts 39.6% corsi I could not care less about marginal differences in production - that doesn't define Malhotra, his role, or Beagle. -
Or Soderstrom or Seider or Boldy or.... I don't know Alf. Haven't seen enough of all the players in this range to pretend to recommend anyone. I'm on team whomever Benning et al pick. I lean towards hoping the bpa is a a defenseman at 10. If I were rolling uninformed dice,, I'd probably take Soderstrom, although I want to see more of Broberg and Seider.

? Zegras was +18. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0054342019.html https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/424453/trevor-zegras nvmd - see that you noticed that. Regardless I wouldn't put much stake in +/-, even for Krebs - his entire team was outscored 324-181 this year....
