  1. Jay Beagle in last year's playoffs: 23 games 24.4% ozone starts = the lowest of 23 Caps. 2 goals, 6 assists, 8 pts = 10th on the Caps. +8 in the hardest minutes on the team = 6th on the Caps Game winning goal, short-handed assist. 184 faceoff wins at 60.1%. 23 hits. 21 blocked shots. Apparently Washington 'hasn't missed a beat'......but they have 15 wins to go if they hope to repeat.... I like Nic Dowd - he was a good acquisition here - and he's a good, bargain depth signing for Washington.... but let's be real - he's not near the dzone start / shutdown specialist, faceoff guy, etc that Beagle is - (Dowd had 24.5% high ozone starts this year for example - and was nowhere the faceoff guy) - the idea that they're relatively equal 4th liners is based on a fair amount of ignorance.
  2. You been around long enough to remember Malhotra? Many people (certainly not 'universal' as you're embellishing here regarding Beagle) thought that 2.5 million in 2010 = was a huge overpayment. Very similar role - and outcomes - to Beagle in a whole lot of wayss = elite faceoff guys., extremely low ozone starts - dzone specialists - extemely similar underlying numbers/'possession' numbers, production, both high end penalty killers. Played very similar minutes and had the job of high-end shutdown bottom six center with the less obvious beneift to the Sedins et al - of providing them with high-end levels of ozone starts. Funny thing - that Gillis regime was noted for two things: 1) innovation / analytics / new-NHL team builiding intelligence. 2) geniuses with contracts. I guess Gilllis didn't know what he was doing - threw away money there when that money could have been instrumental in contending years - and the much-fluffed capology guru Lawrence Gilman, didn't know much about player valuation..... Meh - what use would this team have for a guy that provides those things... The thing is - the Sedins elite production in those years - are in part owing to the Manny Malhotras they played with. EP did not produce 66 pts this year in a vacuum - he had 70% ozone starts....
  3. Cherry guaranteeing Binnington wins the Calder. Couldn't bring himself to mention EP. At the time, though, he was wearing the superhero sheets missing from Tavares' six year old's bed - so it was kinda hard to take him seriously.
  4. Projection. I suspect that those who 'repped' that post did so because it pointed out that Beagle wasn't simply signed for the 'intangible' of 'teaching to win'.... Btw - how do you associate the letter "z" with special needs - a letter that is associated with / defined by sleepiness. Accuse me of comparing you to one of the seven dwarfs if you want - you're spinning off into odd tangents to desperately qualify your offendedness. Yawn.
  5. Give it a rest. You're the poster here referring to "special needs". Or feign being 'offended' - by something you straw-interpreted - in an offensive way. Whatever. Take a time out.
  6. Good thread imo. Asking what we thought at the time - not what we think in hindsight. I don't exactly recall - I remember being pretty high on Chabot (who went earlier but who I drafted a few times in fantasy around that range - also liked Kylington, Beauvillier) - and Jacob Larsson closer to where we picked (gets a bit obscured when you're drafting for fantasy variables/purposes....) Probably would have been Larsson among the guys available at 23..... But I do recall @theminister - at the time - bang on with Boeser.
  7. Parts of your post you've bolded, so I've bolded and enlarged the part I want to respond to. I don't think this team has been anywhere near 'swayed' by central scouting. Central scouting has lagged behind the performance of many, many NHL teams for some time = not sure who they've been swaying - aside from fan impressions... To put it as a friend in the amateur scouting gig put it - they have been over-rating the CHL for some time - and under-representing players out of the U.S. (or Europe) and have failed to catchup/keep with the times. The USHL/USA junior ranks have been better than Central Scouting's rankings realized for a while now - probably about to change, if not already in the process in the past few years. The Canucks have been drafting - Demko, Boeser, Gaudette, Lockwood, Rathbone, Madden, Hughes - accordingly - as arguably have other NHL teams.
  8. It's a cool story. You mistake speaking straight / direct talk - with 'anger'. Seems like your ego has difficulty with it.
  9. Sutter wasn't healthy - wasn't tradeable - at the deadline. Minor detail, but...relevent. I don't really care to remind you that you weren't 'optimistic' about the likes of Virtanen or Gaudette. I'm going with the patient approach - my 'expectations' are neither high nor low - I don't tend to bother with expectations. Sounds in your last line like you're proposing to 'speed up' the rething.
  10. What? You were expecting Beagle to 'teach' the team how to win'? What nonsense wadr. Er, he didn't live up to intangiblezzz. Beagle's job is to win faceoffs, take defensive zone starts, kill penalties - generally handle hard minutes and generate ozone starts for players like EP. He did a great job of all those things. Some noobs around here may choose to dwell irrelevently on his production - or fantasy intangibles - but leadership is not simply about 'teaching' young player to win - what a red herring wadr. How is it that people who spend so much time on these boards are still obliivious to the role he plays, and the importance of it? Guys like EP don't enjoy 70% ozone starts without Jay Beagle types in the lineup (particularly in the absence of a Sutter).
  11. Matthews' 3.9 on ice goals against this year = absolutely horrible. With 58.4% ozone starts = terrible defensive center. Another good opportunity for him to watch what a grown up NHL center plays like = Bergeron. Then again, he got schooled last year and didn't appear to learn much...
  12. I don't really care what Virtanen would return - I have zero interest in moving him. And like Sutter or not, Gaudette isn't/wasn't ready, perhaps even for the NHL let alone a role like that.
  13. Leafs with the patented Leaf blown coverages. Gardiner with the gift in the slot...so uncharacteristc lol. They look awful early on imo.
  14. Sorry - but who cares about wishy washy best/worst lists - or dwelling on who's over 30? Why didn't you provide the number of players over 25? Too many in the 25-30 range?
  15. I get a kick out of the gaggle that believes these two things simultaneously: 1) trade Virtanen 2) Gaudette was/is ready to replace Sutter. Some reality / perspective: These two guys are less than 2 months difference in age (22 yrs old). Virtanen 15 goals, 25 pts in 70 games playing relatively harder minutes 45.5% ozone starts, 47.8% corsi 2.2 on ice goals for, 2.4 against per 60, -4 154 hits 46 takeways, 22 giveaways, +24 Gaudette 5 goals, 12 pts in 56 games 59.0% offensive zone starts, 47.0% corsi 1.9 on ice goals for, 2.7 against, -8 40.4% faceoffs
