  1. Wait until EP, Hughes et al get used to playing with each other....
  2. You're the first star every time @Apricot. (Well - maybe not every time - shutout a few times this year - and there is always Vintage - but almost every time.)
  3. I aint even mad. If we happen to tank today, so be it.
  4. 9 goals in 19 games is pretty awesome production from Pearson. Great fit on Horvat's line.
  5. Keep getting logged off every five minutes for some reason..... maybe I'm just not getting the hint lol
  6. Brayden is a UFA next July 1st. Maybe this July 1st isn't the time to go on a spending spree ? Can't say I agree with Shannon.
  7. Yeah - and having forwards - a fair number of them actually - that were high end two-way defensive forwards - Kesler, Burrows, Higgins, Hansen...- for whom it's second nature to support and cover when D pinch - makes it easier to enable your defensemen to be that aggressive. The current group is a work in progress, but I think they have a lot to work with.
  8. I wonder if that's part of what Pittsburgh re-emphasized with Gud. Gud was great alongside Mitchell as a really young NHL shutdown guy. It sounds like that's something Pitts reminded him of - to use his reach and stick to initiate contact/intervene and take a slight fraction/edge of space away pre-emptively (at least that's one of the things Gudbranson has remarked upon - that was a tweak he's made).
  9. Beagle is such a beauty. Damn that line always looks good.
  10. yeah - I think it bodes well for his durability. used to love the Willie Mitchell poke checks as well - and he had a long span and stick in addition. But Lidstrom is a great example of a guy that rarely hit, was not particularly physical and yet he used his stick work and positioning to literally suffocate opponents - a rare 'finesse' shutdown D that did it with great intelligence. A great player to watch - if people aren't offended by things like being asked to watch Pronger videos lol.
  11. I was really impressed with Hutton at times in the last game (Rafferty's first) - where Rafferty had his moments imo - and Hutton was reading him and the play really well and supporting him where needed. He looked so different than the cautious, regressing player he was last year - with a composure/confidence that was cool to see.
  12. I think you mean a 1-2-2 - but it was still quite aggressive - and yes - the point was the he had the roster to be effective - you need perssonel if you hope to be aggressive and dictate against opponents. The only coach with a more aggressive forecheck here was Tortorella's 2-1-2 - which was too aggressive for the lineup at the time - and got broken down with clock-like regularity shortly after the team's in the west got a read on him. But I agree with your point regardless - it's not simply a 'system' thing (there are lots of systems in play in any event) - it is highly dependent on a coaches' lineup, their stengths/limits, experience, etc. Green has been working with half a replacement blueline for much of this season - and up front hasn't been all that healthier.
  13. I really like how Hughes uses his vision (and mobility) to minimize the risks of taking big hits, in spite of pushing the pace so much. He has that great combination of a next gear while remaining in control / composed.
