tempted to drop the AV / Bieksa / Fiddler gif on you

The Jets have some D available - will likely move a few of: Ryan Pulock (3.76 fppg) Stephen Johns (4.06 fppg) Matt Gzelcyk Ben Chiarot Brett Kulak Among others - Giordano or Brodie also potentially available. Lindholm less likely, Morrissey borderline untouchable, Carlsson unlikely to be moved but never say never. Patrick Berglund (3.66 fppg) Derek Grant (signed by Pitt) and a few other depth F also avaiable. Open to trade ups (packages for a player that improves our roster), D prospects or picks. May also consider a hockey trade for the right forward. Lots of options.

yes absolutely. and just a point of clarification - Ilunga's role will be co-GM.
-
Report; The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to annouce the hiring of @Ilunga - who will assume co-GM duties with the club. Ilunga, aka Buddha's Hand, is one of the prinicipal, original members of CDC Puck - and performed a critical role in the early stages of the league. Please include @Ilunga in all Jets-related inquiries. Thanks, oldnews

The Jets have a wealth of NHL ready young defensemen - considering moving one or two - inquire if you want/need to add NHL D to your blueline.

What do you want as the Canucks alternate/third jersey?
oldnews replied to Roberts's topic in Canucks Talk
haha. the lack of man bun is what makes me doubt he's a 'liberal'... I tried wearing skinny jeans in my later years working in the bush. my corduroy bell-bottoms kept getting caught on broken branches, causing me to face plant , so I had to duct tape them around my ankiles, defeating the fashion point - and wasting a lot of duct tape. but then with the skinny jeans my boots would get filled with duff....so I had to give up working in the bush. No worries - I doubt the axe handle is old growth. my guess would be photoshopped synthetic... whereas a 'real man' would use hickory. nice fashion choice on the double bit though. -

Attago Shapiro. You rekt this team. What a surprise this turned out to be. You suck - and so does your boss. -
'you're going to be so depressed.'

Yeah.....coulda' hada' a guy with horrible underlying numbers, 10 pts over the past two seasons (107 games)... 7 minutes a game, didn't kill a second of penalties last year, strictly a 13th man and winger (who never takes draws)..... But cheaper than Beagle, so....

I suppose it's natural to want to tell yourself that when your new owner-GM just dealt Elias Lindholm for the Flames' Trent Klatt. And don't get me wrong there - I loved Klatt - and I like Ferland as well - but that part of the deal stands to cause y'all lots of anxiety for years to come. Anyhow, comfort in narratives about a 23 yr old imposter with 188 NHL points, and a 21 yr old defenseman with 6 fewer career points than the 26 yr old winger the Canes got.
-
what does any of this have to do with whether ROR's contract is long and nasty? you've said nothing to indicate that O'Reilly isn't worth his terms - which was the point - not simply 'underlying numbers' you've spun off on a question of whether there is enough playoff experience in their center group, or if they're 'culture drivers' - and want to make predictions about the Blues fate. That might be interesting, but has little to do with the post you're responding to.
-
I don't see it that way, personally. Sutter is not the equivalent of Berglund, etc, etc - and we're not in the position St Louis is - so a deal like that does not make as much sense for us as the Blues. If I am Buffalo, I take the package they got for O'Reilly. If I'm St Louis, I might consider that deal, but the Tage Thompson and a 1st aspect (as well as a 2nd) - that would very likely deter me enough not to give that much up in futures - and two serviceable roster plaeyrs, one of whom I consider the type of player you win with.
-
Nope - that's an overstatement. Not going to rehash all his outcomes again - tremendous two way underlying numbers, production, elite faceoffs, excellent defensive center, harder minutes - an integrated package that not many players aside from the Patrice Bergerons of the NHL can compete with. You have players making 9, 10, 11 milliion and more - there is absolutely no way ths 27 yr old in his prime with 5 yrs remaining at 7.5 million is a "nasty, long term contract'.
-
"Not a lot of information on style of play. PCS numbers are pretty awful with a 1.4% comparable success rate. Craig Smith is the only statistically similar guy to make the NHL. Will have to show significant growth in the next couple of seasons to be considered a legitimately solid prospect." https://canucksarmy.com/2015/06/27/canucks-finish-draft-pick-up-5-more-players/ "Gaudette’s statistical profile suggested he was a reach, even as late as 149th. In the context of draft rankings, it wasn’t an especially curious move, but given his slight stature and tame counting numbers, it didn’t satisfy our qualitative proprieties anywhere near as much as we’d hoped from a player in that range."
-
I like the deal for Buffalo. I like Thompson - very good young prospect. Sobotka and Berglund are both good possession players, physical, good faceoff guys - good two way players - reasonable terms. Have always like Sobotka - he's a pita to play against. Another 1st in addition to Thompson - and a 2nd.... I think Buffalo definitely got value here. St Louis gets what they clearly wanted - likely the best player in this deal - but they also gave up a couple mid range roster players and three good futures, so it's hard to call it a win for them.

that's some silly logic Alf. The Flames are hoping Hanifin turns into Hamilton? That's nonsense. The Flames had and dealt Hamilton. Maybe it's worth asking why?. The Lames will get the points they lose back in the form of Brodie's production rising again by virtue of playing with Giordano. And they add a 21 yr old who is already tracking to be a better player than Hamilton. Hanifin has played twice the games, scored twice the points that Hamilton had in his draft +3 years. Hanifin was not playing with a Zdeno Chara nor on a 110+ pt team in that span. I'd take Hanifin for Hamilton one for one - without hesitation. Hamilton is plain over-rated. He's gonna need another Chara/Giordano in Carolina - fortunate for him he may be playing with Slavin. In any event, I think Calgary in the end will win the Hanifin/Hamilton aspect of this deal, the Lindholm/Ferland aspect of this deal, and Carolina will be banking on Fox to close the gap. That coming from someone that really likes Ferland - no hate like you have for him. Ferland is effective, and the type of player that is often under-rated - but not in this thread. (Maybe he'll sign here next summer lol - that would be entertaining). The under-rated assets in here are Hanfiin and Lindholm. Calgary bought low on these two, bought high on Hamilton, and sold high on Hamilton and Ferland. The idea that Hamilton is a top 5 D in the league is about as laughable as the idea that Jake Gardiner was going to propel the Leafs on a long playoff run.
-
Meh - plus/minus can be highly misleading and oversimplified - are relative statistics (to team-mates and context). If you're looking for liabilities in Carolina - Jeff Skinner had 65.8% ozone starts, his corsi was a 10% dropoff (55.8) and was nevertheless a team worst -27. 3.6 on ice goals against per 60 was also the worst on the Canes. 2.4 gf per 60 was 14th on that team. But teams are supposed to want to strip mine some key young assets to acquire one year of 6 million cap who scored 49pts in that context. Justin Faulk was -26, 58.3% ozone starts, 3.4 gaa per 60... Fleury may have had a negative impact on Faulk's numbers, but on the other hand Slavvin balances against that effect imo. Michael Backlund was -21 - lowest on the Flames - and yet he's anything but a 'liability'. It's really relative to linemates, opposition, role, etc.
