Just my opinion, but I personally don't bother with WOWY ('with or without you' - I prefer to look at numbers like Relative corsi in context), hero-charts, WAR, etc. They leave you dependent upon the analyst - and 'analytics' are only as good as the analyst. Quite often, the analysts are simply not very good - and these 'metrics' are often reductive and grossly oversimplified. You can go to sites like this: https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/VAN/2018.html You can look at a player's raw goal and shot differential stats yourself (it's been in vogue to overemphasize shot differentials alone, and often out of context), their ozone starts, their quality of competition, their ice time (in all situations).... I used to like behindthenet as a source, they're no longer current. You can go to sites like this: http://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_profiler.php?sent=go&players=2410&games=2017-2018:R You can see who Gudbranson played with and how frequently, how productive they were together... It's not really that complicated - you can get a cross-section of these statistics for any player and form a relatively informed opinion of their 'objective outcomes' or 'advanced stats' yourself - and still keep their limitations in mind - even the cumulative information only tells you so much (there is a whole lot that is known by a coach or a goaltender for example that is not represented in a handful of metrics). It's interesting only to the point that the limitations are realized - when they're not, they're utterly useless reductions with (ironically) negative analytical value.

what's the record for blown saves in a single post season game? -
I'd flip them a mid round pick for him in a heartbeat. Love Zack. Speed, hands and guts - and he has really improved his game without the puck (which was never anywhere near as bad as most people in this market suggested). We could use him. Wish him the best, and accept that he needed a few mulligans to get his life in order, but wouldn't hesitate to bring him back.
-
Agreed - although I want to see Virtanen with the Sedins - I think they need what he brings in order to open up some space for them But Gagner has been good with Jake. Only has 1 point thus far, but not really concerned - he's not seeing much pp opportunity, and he's had a revolving door of linemates thus far. I think the thing about Gagner - he's a streaky player. He'll go stretches where you wonder why he isn't in the AHL and then he'll tear it up and look like a game breaker for other stretches. He appeared to be more consisternt recently in his career, particularly last year. m I'm actually liking him thus far and think he's likely to get better as the lines gain a bit more stability, and develop some chemistry - and the main reason I like him is his effort level and his battle despite the fact he's overmatched physically. He's thrown and taken some hits and been on the wrong side of most of them, but he'sengaging and so I have time and patience for him. I think he's going to be a good, versatile middle six forward with some veteran stability and skillset that will work well with the younger guys as more of them filter into the lineup.

Thanks for the mini-mod moment, but most folks around here are fairly aware that Burrows is a Canuck legend - always will be - discussing Burrows will never be 'off topic'. "Always a Canuck" and all that jazz kinda thing.

Smoak crushed one 5th deck (foul) his previous at bat - not sure why Casillo would come inside 2-0, but fatal error. Was just thinking about how low the confidence of a lot of that lineup looks - certainly needed a comeback like this. -

There is also the possibility that he simply guessed wrong - so combine a ball, with a pitch selection he wasn't expecting and it's conceivable he simply takes - and that it's not necessarily the type of error in judgement you're thinking. But this team is difficult to watch this year. So uncharacteristic of a guy like Tulo to charge and attempt to one-hand a ground ball like that while giving up two infield bases, and a run to the lead baserunner in the process. I dunno. I don't like Shapiro, so I'm blaming him lol. Injuries - yes. And a pitching staff that turned into a ghost. There's talk of trying to add - a 2nd baseman - pitching - I personally don't see the point. This team all but has a fork in it. I think I'd rather Gibbons were expiring as opposed to extended, although hard to blame him either. Just one of those seasons.... -
No correlation between overpaying for Drouin (and the other consequences and costs of that move), losing their most effective powerforward (replacing him with another small, skilled winger) moving a couple of your best defense prospects - and the Canucks signing a few time/space fillers. I'm not criticizing Bergevin for signing Markov, Radulov, Alzner - the problem is the type of imbalance he's building - overspending on Drouin while moving guys like Sergachev and Beaulieu and losing guys like Radulov to FA only enhances it.
-
I don't think Montreal has making the playoffs as their ultimate goal. I think what you're seeing in Montreal is an intent and attempt to contend - while they have one of the world's best goaltenders in his prime - however, perhaps Bergevin just isn't a very good GM. I didn't mind the Weber/Subban deal considering the state they were in - but since then, subtract Sergachev and Beaulieu, subtract Radulov, add a me-first Drouin (another small winger) - Alzner is a nice replacement for Emelin - but really. looks like a franchise taking multiple steps backwards. Who knows - they may be good this year - you never know - but I don't really like their recent moves - and it's unclear if Markov is going to return either. That said however, I doubt their ultimate goal (or any team's) is to squeak into the playoffs.

Gadjovich - nice. They went bpa instad of D - guy is skilled and tough.

I love the Kole LInd pick. Center that skates extremely well, creative, playmaker, can finish, plays a hard game - he'll be a great fit and rounds out the center prospect depth nicely. I thought it might come down to him or Davidsson - we mixed it up and went with the skilled Canadian grit this time. I really love the prospect of Horvat, Pettersson, Lind down the road. I think we should go with another Saskatchewan born WHLer with our other 2nd if he's there - Josh Brook.

Leafs will take Hague.

I hope Liljegren, Brannstrom and Valimaki are gone before the Leafs pick. Meh, not gonna happen.
