I'm watching the Pitt/Miami game and ugh.... Correction - I'm trying to watch it. I used to enjoy the CFL more in old times than I do nowadays, but I have to hand it to them - you just know that CFL playoff games and the Grey Cup are highly likely to result in an exciting game - whatever it is, they seem to have a Canada-USA WJC type thing where you're almost guaranteed an entertaining game. The NFL - moreso in recent years imo - but still, they have a lot of games that are borderline unwatchable.
-
Always liked the Lions, especially Barry Sanders - guy was unreal. Gotta hurt to have 9 straight playoff losses - that's a lot of one and dones.
-
Yeah, it's just a bit odd - haven't gotten used to it yet after eons of gimmes.
-
Richardson making like a Def Leppard drummer again.
-
Surprised how many missed converts there have been this year. Not sure how I feel about the change - suppose it adds another element of contingency, which can make it more interesting.
-
"Fanboys" has gotta be the most obnoxious handles thrown around. Anyhow, Rawls having a beast of a game - got his 20+ carries in, and over 150 yds thus far - otherwise a very tight game.
-
Earlier this season it certainly didn't seem like Seattle would be riding their O-line at any point like they did in that drive. Can't remember the last time I saw them run 10 of 11 plays....(before that ridiculous reception).

4th and goal......Go for it!
-
Yeah - Loui is in the midst of that pack - after horrlble puck luck to start the season - with the best underlying numbers on the team - while playing a lot of shutdown on the line with Sutter and Granlund. I guess that adds up to prematurely dismissing a long proven veteran at the half way point of his first season here. Sounds like a goldfish perspective to me.

I guess we all should have waited for "The 5th Line" to come in and explain to us the "truth" about Eriksson. Or better yet, look to your posts for your riveting wisdom on the matter. Interesting though - that you called him a top line player in July. And you apparently consider Horvat, Baertschi, Sutter, Hansen - all bottom 6 forwards. You sure showed us. "Just for fun."
-
Yawn. I see lots of attempts to provoke - but ironically, not a single word of your own regarding Eriksson's game or attempt to substantiate what you merely imply you know about him. Surprise, the arrogance of your post is based on....yeah, nothing. Ironic. http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/ratings.php?db=201617&sit=5v5&type=corsi&teamid=29&pos=skaters&minutes=200&disp=1&sort=PCT&sortdir=DESC

just praise the guy without making it a platform to take a cheap shot at another Canuck, based on a small sample of all things. it just cheapens the 'compliment'. Burrows deserves better.

I think you're in denial tbh. The Jays weren't 'forced' into anything - they put on a good dog and pony show for their fans - in the end it was pretty clear that they preferred to move on. -

I think you're getting a bit wound up in narratives tbh But the part I've bolded and enlarged is interesting. Anyhow what do you think of the prospect that EE wanted to come back and what he accepted in the end? Was it unreasonable market value for him? And if the Jays could match that and bring him back, what does that say? -

not so sure how easily EE's numbers will be replaced - and I don't see it as an either EE or Morales situation. -

Definite different feel to the way this group operates - not a fan. Is it possible that Morales fills the shoes of EE or JB? Yes it is. But will he fill both those pairs of shoes? Oh well, there is the draft pick. Woot woot. To add insult to injury, EE winds up signing with the club that dispatched the BlueJays last year. Hmmm. -

I think a fair measure of this has to go squarely on Shapiro et al. First of all, they gave him an ultimatum type offer with a very short deadline and moved on pretty much instantly when he didn't accept. I don't have a problem with the Morales signing, but it shouldn't preclude bringing Edwin back - they need a 1b and a dh. Second, as you point out - it was pretty clear that EE wanted to return. Given that fact, I find it hard to believe that matching this offer would not have resulted in EE returning to Toronto. So, was it really that hard to Shapiro's boys to make nice and bring him back at lesser terms than their original offer? I have to think that this is the Jays that were more instrumental in this not panning out, and that doesn't sit well with me. EE has overproduced for the team - and the team had the opportunity to bring him back at a deflated market value - and did not. For me this is on Rogers/Shapiro - they had the optics of not accepting the original offer pretty much instantly in their back pockets and they made full use of it in the end. Does anyone believe the Jays couldn't afford the 3x20 at this point? I don't. This sucks, and tbh, I don't blame EE one bit. -

EE's agent may have had a point - but I think he expressed it in such a weak way that it was lost in the bathwater. The whole 'we didn't expect the Jays to move on so quickly' suggests that he's protesting about having played poker and lost on a bluff. The wife/girlfriend flirting metaphor was just dumb. If they'd intended to return to Toronto all along, then playing the market as leverage has obviously backfired. Perhaps they could have been clear about that intent, and perhaps the Jays may have moved a bit as opposed to move on to the next option. I sympathize with EE though - he has produced some tremendous numbers at bargain value for the Jays, and I'm not sure the franchise couldn't have recognized that and remained a bit more committed to the player. Who knows the subtance of the negotiations - but at this point, I don't think it would hurt to revisit the negotiation and pay EE in the neighborhood of what he's worth. If that doesn't happen I have a feeling it's going to leave a bad taste in the mouths of Blue Jays fans - I know personally I've been relatively satisfied with management's performance last year, but at the same time, I'm thrilled with neither Shapiro or Rogers, while Atkins gets a pass. At this particular moment, EE's agent comes off as a bit weak, but in the end, EE is getting underplayed relative to the real market value of comparable players. I hope he gets a reasonable payday in the end and preferably, particularly with the leveling out of the market, I think the Jays should step up and reciprocate. -
Nice to see Wilson getting his legs back in the last month. That offense is a duck without his mobility, but with it, that O line looks ok and everything is spread. Rawls has been punching some holes and everything is startting to come together for the Hawks with good timing. It was looking doubtful earlier on, but looking forward to another playoff birth.

I don't know. The 11 on Morales and 6.25 on Pearce wouldn't seem to eat into huge chunks of their budget. Seems to me that's about the value of one of their qualifying offers. Not sure why they wouldn't still be able to be in the ballpark on EE - and Pearce seems/is flexible enough that he's not simply a third overlap at 1st/DH. They'd have to make some good budget signings, but that would seem somewhat in line with their original plan A. -

Maybe not be a bad idea to circle back and offer EE the 3x20/60 that no one seems ready to at this point. they could play harder hardball, but perhaps a bit of give might work nicely in their favour, and still save them a year of term over the original offer. EE and Morales could offset each other at DH/1st.... Would like to see the team maintain that fear they put in opposing pitchers having to navigate that lineup. Without EE or JB, note too sure. Still need a leadoff hitter/utility speed player imo, and an arm or two in the bullpen, but I think I'd try to make sure one of EE or JB comes back, and I'd prefer that be EE - given the somewhat shrunken market, perhaps it's worth taking advantage of? -
Nice to see Seattle take it.

Could be, that makes sense, but still not anywhere near reason enough to have the dog and pony show determine home field advantage. It just happened to turn out an AL win - but there's no good reason imo to have that gimmick determine anything - aside from trying to pump the tires of the All-Star game and whip up some interest - at the expense of the integrity of the game. Best record earns home-field - simple as that. The rest are sideshow issues.
