  1. That's an interesting proposal if you could convince Kesler to consider going to Florida. Do the Canucks take Thomas to backup Lack and assist Florida to shed some cap in the interim to free agency? I'm not a huge fan of the idea of dealing Edler for a top 6, Kesler for another center, Luo for a center and a pick, and thinning out the blueline, particularly given the lack of near NHL ready depth in the prospect pool aside from Corrado. If we could get a guy like Petrovic or Cowen added in a Florida or Ottawa deal I think it might help balance the roster a bit. I guess we could also assume that that high 1st could be spent on a young blueliner (and/or the other 1st already in the bank).
  2. We're talking about the Penguins here, so the point is to look at what they actually have to offer. if you'd like to propose a Kesler for Neal deal, by all means, feel free to share your wisdom. We've seen endless proposals suggesting that Edler get dealt for a top 6 winger. Imo that is a horrible idea unless a premier young defenseman is brought back in that or another deal. In addition, the Canucks prospect pool is far more weighted in forward talent than it is in young defensemen - significant gap actually. Bringing a young defenseman like Maata to this organization is a no-brainer regardless.
  3. I don't see a word of you qualifying how any of this is mistreatment or embarrassing Poetica. Referrring me repeatedly to read previous pages doesn't qualify, nor does posting the one-liner opinion of others. This is a bunch of begging the question.
  4. Pretending to know what is going to happen is...pretending. Btw, - the deal you've just cited - Schenn/Simmonds, Laughton (Canada's WJC captain) and a 1st is hardly much less of a "king's ransom" than your 'voice of reason' is pretending to dispel here.
  5. not sure if you've been paying much attention at all, but the video of Luongo making those comments was wall to wall on TSN and SN. Your attempt to pigeon-hole what I've said regarding Luongo is out of line. I don't have to give anything a miss - and it's pretty pretentious of you to suggest it. I have defended Luongo countless times throughout this drama. If you care to address any of those posts, and do so in context, I'd be more than willing to discuss them. Otherwise, you are grossly oversimplifying and misrepresenting my input. I didn't participate in the first 7 pages of this particular Luongo drama, perhaps the 100th chapter of the ongoing saga. I must, thus, be disqualified from commenting. I'm not really interested in arguing with you Poetica - I've been quite respectful and appreciative of your input on these boards - but if you insist on using belittling "dude" references, you and I would both be better off simply ignoring each other.
  6. Spare me "dudette". What I'm waiting for is a reasonable qualification of the storyline that Luongo has been mistreated. People can parrot a Don Cherry rant until they're blue in the face - the context is never as simple as his rants suggest. There is nothing embarrassing about Luongo not getting a start because, once again, a younger goalie is performing well enough to command the net. If anything is classless, it's suggesting that his team-mate is stuck here and that we all know how the script ends. Unlike Kesler, Luongo is extremely difficult to move. Here's hoping MG finds a way to #freeLuongo.
  7. I'm not buying this line of thinking that Maata is unavailable because the Pens will need him for their playoff run. First of all, Martin, Orpik, Niskanen, Scuderi and even Despres (as well as Letang of course before his injury) have all been seeing more ice time than Maata (in Despes' case, per game). Maata is a great young player, but at 19, their playoff run does not depend on Maata. Moreover, in addition to those guys they have Bortuzzo (over 15 minutes a game) and Engelland (over 13). Martin is probably going to miss a few more weeks, but regardless, the story that Maata is more important to their run than adding Kesler at this point is pretty bit far fetched. Kesler and Diaz Maata, Sutter, 1st/Bennett, DuMoulin.
  8. I'll need a refresher on how Luo has been mistreated, or why him not starting a game is classlees and embarrassing. Meanwhile, Kesler is stuck here whether he likes it or not. We all know how the script ends, right. Just trade the guy already.
  9. More than tired of the 'poor Luo' story, the Luo is a victim angle, and all this dramatic whining about how Luo has been "mistreated". A bunch of sentimental bulls#!t.
  10. thanks Surfer. I don't know or have any predictions. My hunch would be that Philly is the least likely to pay the price - Holmgren hasn't been that aggressive at trade deadlines, and If I were them I probably wouldn't be center shopping as much as trying to fortify my back end whether with the right complementary blueliner or an upgrade in goal (although they did extend Mason 3 years and he's having a good season). 7 guys on their blueline with 3.5 or greater cap hit (including Pronger) - Timmonen (35+ at 38), Meszaros and Gill are UFAs... I would guess that's where most of their action would be - maybe try to rent a few of those guys? My preference would be a CBJ deal because of Johansen, Dubinsky and Anisimov. I think they have the best center pieces to offer and in addition, I like Jenner and Erixon. Dubinsky in some ways might make the most sense - he's a very solid two way center who is quite physical and great in the faceoff circle. I don't think the Canucks concede a great deal in the short run in that deal - and needless to say, the CBJ are much more prone to move him than Johansen. In either event, they did turn around and acquire Gaborik (a deal I didn't care for) after Howson had done pretty damn well in the Nash deal. Kesler gives them a lot of marketability/legitimacy and the kind of veteran leadership they could use. I like the balance of prospects they have as well - lots of options there. The Johansen deal might be my favorite, but a Dubinsky (I think the Canucks were pretty high on him when the Rags were shopping him), Jenner and Erixon (there's your puck mover) deal would be very tempting and I wouldn't second guess it for a moment. I'd also welcome an Anisimov, Jenner, Erixon, pick deal. The strenght of the CBJ is that they have 3 acceptable center options imo. Pitts is a little less appealing, but Shero is very aggressive at deadlines, and I could see why they'd really want to revisit a 3- 1C makeup. Imo Maata might be the most appealing piece of any being discussed, but what accompanies him is less compelling. If a Luo for Brock Nelson/Nabokov deal could be swung at the same time, I wouldn't be quite as concerned about thinning out the present roster at C. The CBJ deals imo offer a better balance of now and future. Pittsburgh deal - riskier - and with more pivoting on a single prospect. I'd think the CBJ would be willing to do something like Dub, Jenner and Erixon, so imo if Shero truly wants Kesler, he has to pony up Maata. Folks seem to think that's not a possibility with Letang's health in question, but those are two different types of blueliners, and ironically, Pouliot is the guy who's more likely to fill Letang's skates if his future is in question. I've probably seen as much of Pouliot as any of the young players being talked about - a lot of exposure at the WJC and have watched Portland live in the dub. Yes, he can dangle, and if Maata weren't an option, and the CBJ weren't in play, I might take him, but would expect considerably more given Pitts is offering not much in the way of NH- ready and much more in the way of risk and futures. Perhaps if they add a guy like Dumoulin on top of Sutter, Pouliot and a 1st/Bennett, it makes them a little more competitive with what the CBJ can offer. An option is to add Diaz and/or Weber to any Pitts deal to compensate them in the short run for their loss of depth on the blueline when they give us Maata. I also don't share the opinions of a lot of people on Sutter - I don't consider him a 'C' roster player - I think he's better and has more potential than is generally being bantered about, but I welcome the devaluations given it serves the Canucks interests that he be considered a cap throw in. If Pitts really wants to trump CBJ, offer us Maata and Pouliot (who is not ready to step in for Letang in any event imo) with Sutter and we'll throw in Diaz/Wever to shore up their present depth. One thing's a non-starter though - the rumours excluding both of these blueliners are Pitts pipe dreams imo.
  11. The deals to be viewed as watermarks are: Staal - lesser player, unsigned RFA - Sutter, 8th overall, Dumoulin. Went on to sign a 10 yr 60 million deal. Kesler is a better player with a better contract. Be prepared to pay more than the Staal deal, particularly with cap increases on the horizon. Maata, Sutter, 1st or Bennett, 3rd or Dumoulin. Richards - arguably a comparable talent (although couldn't crack team Canada and was a depth center last Olympics, whereas Kesler is team USA's top line center). Richards on a 12 year 69 million deal - Kesler a better contract again. Richards was dealt for Schenn, Simmonds, and a 2nd. Imo, prepare to pay Couturier, Read/Simmonds and Hagg for Kesler. Rick Nash. 8 yrs x 7.8 million. Imo comparable talents all things considered - Kesler with the more favourable terms. Nash dealth for Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon, 1st. Imo be prepared to pay Johansen and Erixon, or Dubinsky, Jenner and Erixon. Substitute Anisimov for Dubinsky and add a 2nd or 3rd round pick. That's where I think the value in this deal should land, and imo, the terms Kesler's signed to easily puts him in a class where anything less than those deals is a non-starter. Kesler makes the Pens an actual contender - more difficult to play against - more balanced and exceedingly difficult to contain. He'd fill a huge role on the CBJ and give them the premier veteran leadership they need. He is the two way horse that the Flyers need among a very talented forward group on paper that nevertheless appears to be lacking just that. The price is high for a reason - he's worth what these players commanded, and perhaps more given his contract - so really, nothing less will do.
  12. That's the kind of offer that 'staals' negotiations imo.... Sutter, Despres and a late round pick would be a Pittsburgh pipe dream - lowballing lesser offers than what they sold Staal for is not 'aggressive', it's fantasy. Maata, Sutter, a 1st and a 3rd maybe. Substitute Bennett for the 1st if you want. Sub DuMoulin for the 3rd if you want. Couturier, Read, Hagg. People need to stop pretending Couturier is anywhere near par value - great young player, but there'd have to be significantly more value added. Dubinsky, Jenner, Erixon. Dubinsky imo is a player who gives the Canucks a very reasonable immediate presence that doesn't set them back too significantly in their present intent of making the playoffs. Those two prospects make it worthwhile. Substitute Anisimov and add a 2nd. Johansen, Erixon. Johansen is still a young talent - does not have the value that Kesler does - contrary to a lot of opinion, CBJ need to add a moderate prospect to get it done imo. Until someone is prepared to pay market value, the low balls are nogos. Kesler is the premier center on the US National team - a team many were (prematurely) thinking were about to succeed Canada. He's an absolute steal at a 5 million cap hit. He's a player that makes the Pittsburgh Penguins instantly much harder to handle - and brings that element they desperately need - more difficult to play against. There simply has to be that one premier young talent like Maata in the deal - and at the very least a B roster center like Sutter. The Penguins don't have a player like Johansen, Couturier, or even Dubinsky to offer - so they have to be prepared to seriously raise the stakes where a young bluechip blueliner is concerned, and Maata takes a measured amount of risk out of this deal for Vancouver, otherwise, it's simply not worth it. I think most of the talk is a piece short of getting it done. If a team wants Kesler be prepared to pay a piece more than what Staal commanded - a lesser player who was unsigned, and went on to ink a 10 yr, 60 million deal. Kesler is not just a Selke and the top line center on the US team - he's also signed to a hell of a bang for your buck deal. Richards was dealt for Schenn, Simmonds and a 2nd. Richards also came with an albatross of a 12 year, 69 million contract. Again, if you want Kesler, be prepared to pay at least that price.
  13. No I wasn't in Sochi, nor am I pretending to speak on behalf of everyone and anyone who would listen.
  14. Booth gets the old "get that out of here".
  15. Burrows with 3 takeaways. The rest of the team 2.
  16. Blocked shots Minnesota 17 Vancouver 5 A good example that blocking a lot of shots doesn't necessarily indicate "good defense". Great puck possession has lead to virtually no blocked shots for Van.
  17. 1 shot allowed. Will take that anytime. Nice to see this blueline healthy.
