  1. the only thing worse than a Minnesota Wild game.... is a Nashville game.
  2. we need something from our sleepers
  3. platoon in sports is a term used when two players rotate in and out of the same position. most common in baseball. when the Canucks had two starting goaltenders last year - that was a hockey example of a "platoon"
  4. Maybe Luo shouldn't be feeding the trolls in the eastern media, making jokes about being stuck here whether or not a player wants to be.... And try not to get outplayed by the rookie again. Might have gotten the start otherwise.
  5. Brace yourselves. Vancouver's Least Wanted about to fill out a prescription for this team.
  6. not sure you know what "platoon" player means
  7. that's counterintuitive. Luo is in play. #freeLuongo
  8. I wasn't paying attention. What's the latest tale from the crypt?
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this team (aside from Santo) pretty much healthy for the first time this season?
  10. Aside from Elvis, no one else made that point. The flaming is due to the audacity of suggesting Luo could be in play. Not very unreasonable, really. And when it comes to speculation, with all due respect to the 'valid sources', the OP is up to standard with most of it.
  11. yeah, I was quite impressed with what he pulled off under the circumstances. his moves since then, not so much. but he seems kind of like his cross-state GM Holmgren - risk taker who wins some and losses some but isn't hesitant. pays the price when he wants someone.
  12. They got Sutter, the 8th overall and DuMoulin for Staal. With all due respect to Staal.....Kesler is worth more than he is - so Sutter, Maata and Harrington or DuMoulin, or they're welcome to continue without their 3 center system. If they don't like that, they can sub Pouliot for Harrington or DuMoulin if they want.
  13. A lot of flaming at the OP for a relatively reasonable piece of speculation (aside from being his/her own source). If Luo is in fact healthy, shutout or not, Lack is a rookie and a backup -in all likelihood a shutout doesn't buy him the opportunity to run with it - Luo could pretty much be expected to step back in regardless. I think it's entirely reasonable to think that Luo could be in play. I haven't exactly gotten the impression that he's turned over a new leaf in his desire to remain a Canuck into the twilight years. His tongue in cheek joke (feeding the Eastern media trolls) about Kesler being stuck here whether he likes it or not... What better timing to ship him out? Luo to NYI for Nabokov, Brock Nelson and Scott Mayfield. Get er done MG.
  14. Harrington or DuMoulin - equivalents of a 2nd but closer to NHL ready. Pouliot can dangle, undoubtedly, but I'm not sold on the rest - I wouldn't cut that deal unless Maata is the principal, and wouldn't expect Pouliot to be included in that case. Let the Pens keep him as their Letang 2.0. This team needs a Fin, and that Fin imo is Maata.
  15. Maata will be the impact player. Who expected Staal to be something he wasn't? I don't have a problem with the fact Sutter is a 3rd line center. He's a young guy whose been over 50% in the faceoff circle, he's +122 in takeaways, his underlying numbers are ok and he has good upside considering the role he's playing. The key imo is Maata, and the other piece they add. Sutter is a worthwhile tweener center.
  16. And Kesler is that kings ransom - or rather, it'll take a kings ransom to pry Kesler out of here - which is why, imo, Maata has to be the principal in the deal - whereas Sutter is a secondary piece, and I'd like to see another d prospect included in that deal to give the Canucks prospect pool some more balance and options in further deals.
  17. I think Sutter has more upside than it appears playing in Pitts bottom six and getting scraps for situational opportunities behind their top 6. I'd be tempted to accept a Sutter deal - if they add a pair of blueline prospects to the deal. Between Maata, Despres, Pouliot, Harrington, Dumoulin, they have young blueline prospects that could round out the Canucks youth and depth on the blueline nicely, and enable them to potentially move a blueliner for a forward, as has been clamored about so much on these boards. Sutter, Maata, and a third piece and it would be tempting.
  18. Comparing apples to oranges doesn't really concern me that much. Look at the entire St Louis Blues offensive zone starts. Sobotka falls 19th. Backes is 2nd last at 45.6%. No one under 40%. The point here is not to replace or compare Sobotka to Richardson. I love Richardson and I realize how valuable he is - that is pretty much irrelevent. If this team is moving Kesler, then it's pretty much written in stone that they take a center or two back. When this team has a couple centers of Richardson's quality in the bottom six, then they'll have SC depth. Imo Sobotka is one of the better 3rd line centers in the NHL - with the kind of upside that puts him in a category with Higgins and Hansen as one of the most productive two way 3rd liners in the NHL - and an apt tweener that can be moved up the lineup when the need is there. And Sobotka isn't the principal in this deal. If you don't see the value there, throw in a pick or prospect - he is very under-rated. Schwartz can play all three (forward) positions, has 42 points as a 21 yr old playing great two way hockey on a conservative Blues club. I'm really not looking to obsess over a player's size - if you want size so badly, substitute Tarasenko if that suits you, but I think Schwartz is more dynamic and versatile - and I'd take him over Schenn as well. Both of these guys are very cap and RFA friendly. I haven't heard from Botchford, Dreger or Eklund that St Louis is interested. It's my opinion that he'd be a great fit there, and that he'd probably be interested in going to a club like that, where he arguable also steps in as their top line center - as he was on team USA. But let me clarify something - my preference would be Johansen - not that convinced that Columbus is very likely. I'd also take a package of Dubinsky and Jenner from the CBJ. I'd like a Couturier package, but imo it would require them throwing in another premier asset (I like Couturier, but I'm not getting silly blowing his value out of proportion). I like Detroit's youth, but I don't see the center I'd want coming out of Detroit, unless the Canucks were to opt for a young top 6 winger, prospect and depth center like Helm in a deal. Toronto I can't take seriously. If they want to offer Reilly, a 1st (lottery pick next year lol), and Bozak, I might listen, but Kadri and one of their B prospects is a non-starter imo. CBJ probably has the best options while St Louis might be the situation Kesler would want to go to.
