There's a reason Stewart is being shopped by one of the better puck possession teams in the NHL. http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_statistics.php?s=29&f1=2012_s&f2=5v5&f5=STL&c=0+1+3+5+4+6+7+8+13+14+29+30+32+33+34+45+46+63+67# http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_statistics.php?s=29&f1=2011_s&f2=5v5&f5=STL&f7=10-&c=0+1+3+5+4+6+7+8+13+14+29+30+32+33+34+45+46+63+67 http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_statistics.php?s=30&f1=2013_s&f2=5v5&f5=STL&c=0+1+3+5+4+6+7+8+13+14+29+30+32+33+34+45+46+63+67# Consistently poor underlying numbers with high offensive zone starts. He's an overpaid, not particularly hard working player who struggles mightily against quality defenses. Over-rated. Toronto should be interested. He'd fit right in.

Doubting how much you know about these players tbh. Tough crowd tonight: Yeah, Johansen is obviously a the top of the shortlist. But... Sobotka has some of the best underlying #s on the Blues: http://www.behindthe...34 45 46 63 67# 60.9% in the faceoff circle - one of, if not the best in the NHL. 25 points (not bad for a 3rd line center), +17, 21 takeaways / 6 giveaways (+15). Pretty consistent in all those respects over the past three years. One of the best lesser-known big bang for the bucks in the NHL imo. $1.3 million RFA. Schwartz with similarly outstanding underlying numbers. 42 points, +22 45 takeaways, 11 giveaways +34 Great speed, solid two way forward that can play all three positions - very good faceoff guy (56.9%), particularly for a 21 yr old. Not really that small at 190lbs. ELC. Schwartz would make the 2nd line that much more dangerous, and Sobotka would make the 3rd that much more difficult to play against, moving Richardson to the fourth line, while Schwartz would also push another top 9 onto the fourth line. The fourth line all of a sudden is a borderline 3rd. Tortorella would have a hell of a pair of bottom 6 lines to roll and create possession for the top 6.

One of the rare times we'll have to disagree I guess. I don't like the idea of moving Kesler with Schenn as the primary - imo not a great fit in the lineup to have Kesler become an absence and Henrik, Schenn, Schroeder down the middle with Richardson anchoring it - I want more balance and more of a two way guy in Couturier. I'd be most interested in players like ROR/pick, Dubinsky/Jenner, (or young guys in the mold of Bjugstad or Brock Nelson - off the map on this particular deal). If Edler were dealt and Kesler retained, perhaps Schenn as a winger for Kesler would make sense, but I'm not particularly convinced that dealing a blueliner for a forward is a very good idea, particularly when both injuries and the relative depth of the prospect pool at forward is considered. An Edler deal returning Coburn and Schenn and I'd be a lot warmer to the idea.

Not in the least. Nonis on Kadri: “Would we be willing to trade him? Yes, we’d be willing to trade him.” Interesting that he's out there offering that. The Leafs defy reason though, don't they? But not to us thanks, and certainly not as the bulk of a Kesler deal. I'm not a fan of thinning out the blueline either - particularly with what we've seen over the years - if a pair of players like Kesler and Edler were moved for a pair of one way forwards, that is something I think this team would come to regret, and I also think both those Canucks are undervalued in those deals.

I think Couturier is the better player (not really interested in Schnenn) and has to be part of a deal is Philly were to make a bid for Kesler. Plays bigger, harder minutes, has significantly better underlying numbers, is stronger in the faceoff circle and would make Kesler's shutdown presence a little easier to stomach. He also has a couple more years before becoming an RFA, is a year younger, and has been as productive despite his role. The Flyers also have a couple interesting blueline prospects in Morin and Hagg. As for the Drouin talk, not sure how many of you watched the WJC, but I wouldn't go anywhere near him. His primadonna act was embarrassing, he didn't perform up to his attitude, and he took repeated stupid, undisciplined and ill-timed penalties.

I think people tend to look at a young player like Johansen, see that he's scored some points and assume that his value is greater than it is - it's a youth culture after all. But in the case of Johansen, I think he might be the one young center I'd actually take in a one for one for Kesler. His second year over 50% in the faceoff circle - 52.3% is pretty impressive for a 21 year old. His underlying numbers are outstanding - strong competition, low ozone starts, great possession numbers. He's been a plus player in the takeaway category - impressive considering his possession numbers. He's also more physical than I'd envisioned he would be - the leap he made this year was fairly surprising when we saw him earlier in the season. I'd understand if they were unwilling to move him, but I also think they have the assets to get a deal done regardless, and have the depth at center to make it work.

Anisimov, ironically, is 25 years old (re Lebrun). That deal would be hard to turn down as well. Anisimov isn't as physical as Dubinsky, and isn't as strong in the faceoff circle, but he's a pretty steady two way center. Jenner and a 1st or a puck mover like Erixon would make that deal hard to turn down imo.
