Not only was it a gold medal game, but the women's teams play together year round - and the Gold medal game is the apex of it all.
I personally value the women's win more - and with all due respect to the US men, they're not necessarily the sole rival to Canada - any of Sweden, Russia and Finland are every bit as much a threat as the USA.
These men's teams are thrown together for a few weeks - yeah, it's a big deal - but a single elimination semi doesn't really stack up, particularly with SCF playoffs looming - to a four year summit which is what the Olympics represent to the women's game.
The women's win carries another level of meaning, particularly when those players can scarcely make a living playing the game.
I'm happier for the women tbh.
