Only that idiot, or one of his Province cohorts, would forget Santorelli or ask such a stupid question.

Nice to have an opportunity to see the Panthers young guys...
-
Lighting up Tim Thomas ought to be some solid motivation to get up for this game.

The Panthers are better than most people realize imo. Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Fleischmann, Barkov, Boyes, Goc, Matthias, Shore, Kopecky, Bergenheim, Upshall.... Campbell, Kulikov, Gudbranson, Weaver, Gilbert.... Not a bad lineup really.

LOL. Scott Gomez with 4 points in his first 7 games, none in the next 8, and has seeen his share of the press box. 40.2% in the faceoff circle. Santorelli is 55.7%. Santorelli's relative corsi is +8 with 43% offensive zone starts - Gomez's is -7 (on a weaker Panthers team) - with higher 47% ozone starts. Santorelli is +1, Gomez -4. Santorelli has 11 hits and 22 blocked shots - Gomez has 4 and 5. Gomez is making 900k - Santorelli 550. How does Santorelli look now Panthers scribe?

logical fail. When you're struggling to score and a legitimate goal is taken away, in a game you lose by one goal, it's not the least of your problems, not by any stretch of the imagination or rationalization.

This thread is taking a humorous turn towards the OP - attracting the clutch club recently. Are you guys from the future?

[Trade] NYI Matt Moulson + Picks for BUF Thomas Vanek

You obvioulsy missed the concessions that Burke made admitting that Boston won the Kessel trade. And what you call irrelevant is ironic considering you made the claim that Peverley was a "dump". That's hockey ignorance at it's richest. Anyhow, your point in bringing up the Kessel deal as if teaches us to wait and see before judging a trade is a fail - your judging that deal a Leafs win is ironic - there is hardly evidence to suggest that when one of the principal parts in that deal is 21 (already with three successful seasons in the NHL), another, whoever he might be, is 20 (with an NHL season already under his belt). These aren't players cracking the Flames lineup - one was a rookie on a Stanley Cup champion, the other a rookie on a team that lost in the SC Final. -

If the Leafs are anything, they are a possession challenged team - and Kessel is part and parcel of that. I get a kick out of this often repeated theory that poor Kessel is held back by his lack of supporting cast. Kessel is the guy propped up by his linemates and team-mates. Without decent two way linemates, Kessel is even more of a glaring liability. Put three Kessels on a line together and you have the most useless one dimensional line in the NHL, that gets owned all over the ice. You can have Kessel. I'd launch him and his contract in a heartbeat for the package the Bruins stole from Toronto. But I'm debating here with someone who framed that deal as Seguin and "someone else", so clearly your concept of who the players we are talking about is challenged, as is also evidenced by the fact you think Peverley is the type of player a team "dumps". I think you need to do your homework. -

How exactly does Kessel support the rest of the cast in Toronto? By floating around vacantly when he doesn't have the puck on his stick? Here's something else that's 'cute': http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 Kessel, the 8 million dollar man: http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 and Kessel's "lights out" playoffs: http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 -15.58 with 20% higher offensive zone starts than finishes... wow, now that's impressive. Kessel is one dimensional - hockey is a two way game. The guy is on the shortlist of the most over-rated, overpaid players in the NHL. -

Have you heard of the CBA and the cap drop? Do you also think Boston wouldn't take/want Peverley, who they also dealt with Seguin? The reality was a 6+ million cap drop - not to mention the fact that the player the Bruins acquired for Seguin, Louie Eriksson, was and is a highly valued asset that virtually any GM in the NHL would like to add, particularly at a 4.25 milliion cap hit. They moved 9 million in cap, and took back 4.25 and Morrow (a 1st round pick), as well as a few other young players changing hands. The re-spin on the Kessel deal is laughable. The Toronto homer media can try all they want to revise reality, but we're talking about the same folks who think re-signing Phaneuf at 7 million is a good idea. Pffftttt. I am not a Bruins fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the reality is that Chiarelli owned the Leafs and that's not about to change anytime soon. I'd be curious to take a poll of GMs: On the one hand you can have Seguin or Eriksson (at millions less than Kessel), Hamilton (an RFA at less than 1 million) and Knight or you can have Phil Kessel. Would love to know the result of that poll. -

We're aware of Moulson's UFA status and his present cap hit - the Sabres added a 1st and a 2nd round pick in the deal, and apparently re-signing Vanek could not be achieved with a (rumoured) 9.5 million/yr deal, so it's hard to argue with the deal that Regier cut - it's a virtual no brainer, particularly when you're trying to move an already gigantic cap hit. As for the Kessel deal, it was and still is a horrible deal - you can caution us not to pass judgement, but before you hail it as a better deal than people thought, you might want to familiarize yourself with who the Leafs actually gave up in that deal. Seguin Hamilton Jared Knight Seguin is a 2nd overall pick, 21 year old who has 12 points in 11 games, is in his fourth NHL season, with a +34, 67 point season as a 19 year old, followed by a +23 shortened season last year. The Bruins moved Seguin and Peverley - 9 million worth of cap hit - in order to create cap space, and acquired a hell of a player,Eriksson, with a very reasonable contract (4.35 millon cap hit) in return. Dougie Hamilton is a 6'5" 9th overall pick who made the Bruins last year as a 19 yr old. The Leafs could sure as hell use Dougie Hamilton. Jared Knight is no slouch of a prospect himself - arguable the best RW prospect in the Bruins system. This is still a horrible deal for the Leafs and in all likelihood will only continue to get worse and worse in hindsight. Some people sipping Leafs Koolaid have tried to suggest that the deal now appears to be a better one for Toronto than had appeared, but that is creative denial at its finest. Kessel is still a one dimensional, over-rated player to which you can now add severely overpaid. -

I don't think you know what you're talking about. The Isles have a hell of a bottom six. Grabner, Clutterbuck, Cizikas, Martin, Brock Nelson and Regin are their bottom six. You're also underestimating the rest of their lineup, and the youth they have in the works. As for their playoff experience, they got the best of the Penguins, who were fortunate to squeak out of that series. Here were their underlying numbers for that series: http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 They're a much better team than you realize. -

Wow. Was thinking Regier had turned a corner and managed a damn good deal despite teams knowing that Vanek had one foot out the door. But, it appears his judgement is as questionable as ever. Even with retaining 1.4 million in salary, I still think the Sabres still won the deal. I'm surprised that Snow did this tbh. If ever a player did his team a favour by wanting out.... -

I like the deal for Buffalo - not so much for the Isles. I think despite the fact Moulson is a UFA, and not really youth (he's 30), I'm not sure I'd consider Vanek enough of an upgrade, if at all, to warrant a 1st and a 2nd. Factor in his over 7 million cap hit (more than 2x Moulson's - and weren't the Isles a spendthrift team? I guess that's coming to a close), their very comparable production over the past four years (yeah I realize Moulson has played with Tavares, but Vanek hasn't exactly had chopped liver for linemates for the most part), as well as the fact that Vanek's underlying numbers aren't exactly better than Moulson's, and I think the Sabres got the best of this deal. Regardless of the prospect pool the Isles have built, I'm not a fan of spending a couple of high picks and a pretty solid and relative bargain of a caphit in a deal like this. I think I would have held onto those picks and let Regier work on trying to move that 7+ million cap hit elsewhere - before coming back with a much lower offer of Moulson, and perhaps a 2nd. I think it's an overpayment under the circumstances.
