  1. Grabner was subsequently waived by Florida. That's how he wound up on the Isles. SK's point wasn't that Grabner didn't turn out to be a good scoring forward - a couple of teams removed - it was that the team needed a top 4 blueliner at the time - something that Ballard, despite his struggles here, had proven to be - he's putting the trade in context and showing that Grabner didn't really fit into the lineup at the time and hadn't earned a spot. If you want a top 4 blueliner, you can generally expect to give up a prospect with top 6 potential, +, in a deal. The irony imo is that the Canucks have easily gotten the best of Florida over the years, before and during the Gillis era. In that deal, often mourned over as the worst deal Vancouver has ever made with Florida, they got a guy they waived, a pick the Canucks didn't want and who hasn't scored a point in the NHL, and the player endlessly esteemed around here, Steve Bernier.
  2. You shouldn't be calling us dumb after some of the proposals you have posted on these boards. Jensen, Corrado and a 1st for Eller - wasn't that your latest?
  3. Does any of that have anything to do with being in the Northwest division?
  4. That's a red herring - that often repeated myth, that the Canucks have been propped up by being in their division, doesn't stand up at all under analysis. The Canucks have dominated every single division in the NHL - not just the NW - their winning percentages against the former Pacific, Central and the Eastern Conference were dominant. In 2010/11 they were 12-5-3 vs the Central, 13-5-2 vs the Pacific and 11-5-2 vs the Eastern Conference. In 2011/12 they were 11-6-3 vs the Central, 11-5-4 vs the Pacific and 11-6-1 vs the East. Last year, even in their decline lol, they were 9-2-4 vs the Central, the best division in the NHL including St Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Columbus and Nashville - in a season without a second line for the most part. AV sure was a crapty coach! They were 6-7- 2 vs the Pacific - the only instance in Gillis' tenure that the team had a losing record against any other division or the Eastern conference. 84-41-18 vs everyone other than the NW under MIke Gillis. Do the math. By my calculations, that makes 186 points in 143 games or what translates into an average of 107 points per 82 games against teams not in the Northwest division. And down goes the NW crutch myth.
  5. 1) Higgins and Hansen are as studly as third lines get - and are the same two guys who helped propel this team to a top scoring team - 40 point players on the 3rd liner is exceptional production. What they don't have is a 57% faceoff guy on the fourth line - but there are two guys with that kind of faceoff proficiency still on the UFA market - and two other centers already on the roster who I wouldn't trade for Lapierre. Richardson Steckel Santorelli or Richardson Smithson Santorelli imo could be as good a fourth line as this team has ever had. Higgins Schroeder Hansen also has the ability to be as good a third line as this team has ever had. Raffi Torres continues to be one of the most over lamented players in Canucks lore (as are all the other former Canucks that should all still be here) - and yet for all the talk of lost secondary scoring, Torres scored 14 goals and 29 points here in 80 games - while Higgins who replaced him at 3LW had 18 goals and 43 points in 71 games and was at a 20 goal pace last year - and that is his production while dealing with infections that caused him to lose 12 pounds in the midst of that production. Higgins is an upgrade to the scoring depth, Hansen has steadily improved his offensive production. 2) I'd take Garrison over Ehrhoff anyday - score from the point as opposed to the rush - a far superior defensive blueliner. Ehrhoff is one of the more over-rated nostalgia cases on CDC. Not having Salo makes a difference - he was the best '5th' man in the NHL - but at the same time, imo the combination of an improving Tanev and Stanton has the potential to be as good as the Ballard/Rome pairing that the Canucks had prior to the cap drop - which people tend to forget took place. 3) Raymond broke his back, Booth blew out his knee, etc. Kesler went from scoring 41 goals to the curse of Jeff O'Neill, hobbling and scoring 22, squeezing his stick, trying to force his production and generally never satisfying those 'beast mode' expectations. Yeah a tweak or two would be nice - but a fourth line upgrade isn't what all the complaining on CDC revolves around. Adding a top 6 forward is not only a cap space pipe dream, but it also contradicts what oh so much of the complaining around here is based upon - the idea of a young player or two getting a shot to develop and produce on this roster. I'm fine with taking a chance on Schroder, Kassian and possibly Jensen.
  6. I like your sense of humour nucknit. Here's the Canucks record on this day two years agon when they won the PT... http://dropyourgloves.com/Games/AnyDateStandings.aspx?League=1&Date=2011-10-14 1 win, 3 losses, 4th most goals allowed in the NHL. the year before when they lost in the SCF... http://dropyourgloves.com/Games/AnyDateStandings.aspx?League=1&Date=2010-10-16 1 win, 3 losses, 2nd least goals scored in the NHL. Last year they were 2 and 4 after 6 games. Things are looking up.
  7. You are either slanting or missing the point nucknit. Shirokov decided to sign a three year deal to go back to CKSA - on the first day of free agency - July 1st, 2011. The Canucks dealt (what were essentially) his future rights - if he decided to return to the NHL - nine days later on July 9th, 2011. prana can whine about this being a terrible deal - Shirokov, "our top scorer" - who has not played in nor scored an NHL goal since - for mere RFA Mike Duco - but that is another story entirely devoid of context.
  8. Yup. The Canucks don't have a top 6. They have a top 11. Sedins Burrows Kesler Booth Higgins Hansen Kassian Schroeder Santorelli Jensen One prototypical bottom six center: Richardson Too much scoring for one lineup. Add in 4 top 4 blueliners who can score like 2nd line forwards and you have sheer offensive potency!
  9. The Canucks score 14 goals in three games....OMG, look at the obvious fail that was AV! This team can score at will under Torts! The Canucks score 1 goal against SJ and have one of those nights against Montreal... and they have no secondary scoring. Add to that the delusion around here that every team not called the Vancouver Canucks score more than they actually do - in reality - and you have the makings of the typical passing raincloud. The average NHL 2nd line center scores 47 points - the average 2nd line winger 37. Have another look at all the "3rd liners" on the roster (ie "everyone not named Sedin") - and then give your heads a shake.
  10. By our leading scorer he means the Moose, and two years is, not surprisingly, a revision of reality. Shirokov lead the Wolves in scoring one of the years prana is talking about - the other year it was that other guy who should have been providing the Canucks with secondary scoring all this time, if only MG had seen the talent: Marco Rosa. Shirokov was 25 when they dealt him - and had already agreed to terms with CKSA at the time. His comment at the time when Tallon acquired him was that he'd honour the three year deal with CKSA as he had honoured his two year deal with the Canucks. 25 years old, 8 NHL games, and nothing to note since. Huge loss for the Canucks and definitely worth whining about years later.
  11. When did this great chemistry between Grabner and Kesler take place? The 20 games Grabner played in Vancouver? They never played together on the Moose. They must have had terrific chemistry, or Gillis never would have traded him, right. Kesler had chemistry with Samuelsson/Raymond - had by far his best season playing with those two.
  12. You are right. "Trade Kesler and redo the second line - standing pat for years is futile" Yes, that very clearly indicates the OP's intention to start a "Hodgson oriented thread."
  13. yes and Linden was co-captain at 20, and sole captain at 21, so Gaunce better jump off the horseride to bustville in a hurry!
  14. Let's cry about something else - how MG traded the other key to all secondary scoring, Sergei Shirokov! Herp-herp-herpaderp. And now Tochkin!!! OMGAWD! I can't take it anymo!
  15. Yep, you brought it up (repeatedly, including responding to a post I made that had absolutely nothing to do with Hodgson, with more of your obsessive Hodgson prattle) - and therefore, quite simply, your claim was a fail.
  16. Such an utter fail. A little dose of reality never hurt. Here are your numerous Hodgson posts - long before I uttered a word on the matter. I made a post referring to Dalpe, and you, being an utter broken record on the matter, dragged Hodgson into it, as you ceaselessly do. You and your sidekick obviously think every thread on CDC is relevant to the Hodgson trade. Quite a snore actually. pages ago: who brought him up prana? "Nice FACTS" emoticon emoticon dlulzzzz
  17. Ok nucknit. "Never reaches his potential"? Ah, forget it. Nope, you're right: they're not Stan Smyl yet - might never be. Got the memo. And Gaunce hasn't proven he's Linden yet. And Shinkaruk aint no Bure yet either. Could someone please juice these young men up with development hormone.
  18. Can't be bothered with the simpleton straw man thing of calling Dalpe 'the answer'. Derp on derp and nothing resembling what I said, But regarding stupidity, that would be suggesting that the Sedins are 'protected' by ozone starts - as they face the strongest of opponents shift in shift out, and scarcely avoid a matchup. Hodgson on the third line (getting more than 50% offensive zone starts) facing weak opposition with two of the leagues better two way forwards - poor analogy and highly irregular for a third line. Go back more than a decade and you might find a viable analogy with the Sedins. Here's how they compare in top line roles btw... http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 http://www.behindthe... 34 45 46 63 67 Doesn't Buffalo have a message board, where it's appropriate to talk about Hodgson in every single post you make? There's also a General Hockey discussion forum here for endless Hodgson dwelling - but hijacking every thread in Canucks talk with whining about Hodgson? Beyond stale dated.
  19. I see you decided to add to the wave of derpery. Your grasp of the facts are hopelessly weak. Dalpe is playing with Sestito and Weber/Weise on the fourth line - with 25% offensive zone starts and has played about 20 minutes for this franchise. Hodgson was playing with a pair of two-way, 40 pt wingers with all the favourable situational matchups and offensive zone starts (over 50%) that be could provided. But thanks for sharing yet more of your obsession with Hodgson - just what CDC is lacking.
  20. People could stand to wipe the dung off their goggles around here. Kassian plays his first game, a 4-1 loss in which he's an even 0, throws a hit (nails Subban right after he runs Richardson), blocks a shot, has a takeaway, 1 shot on goal, commits no giveaways, plays 12ish minutes and has a generally neutral if not positive showing playing with Richardson (1 hit) and Booth (1 giveaway), and that's about all it takes for people to come on here and complain that he's 'useless'. mmmmm. k. Likewise where all the derpy prejudgements of Dalpe are concerned. Young guy has been playing 4-5 minutes a night, with a paltry 25% offensive zone starts, not the strongest of linemates wadr, is a mere -1 - but the hasty mopers in the fanbase can't help themselves. At least the whining has entertainment value.
  21. I agree - and I think Santorelli and Burrows could be exactly what Kesler needs - he also tends to play fairly well with Higgins, even if Higgins is snake bitten at the moment (which would allow Burrows to rejoin the twins). I'm also very happy with Richardson and Stanton - Richardson is a downright nuissance to play against (his forechecking has been so impressive) - and Stanton is an obvious keeper - very poised, solid and an ironic complement to Tanev, who this team also picked up for free. What I find ironic is that people continue to complain about Gillis endlessly, and yet if people need to get premature and hyper critical, you'd think the obvious point to be made would be the irony that Kesler, of all people, is not producing under Tortorella. Neither is Booth. I'm not saying he won't - but the contingent of 'Tortorella is the answer' folks might want to put a lid on their whining about MG until their coach of choice delivers what they promised - particularly those players who were supposed to benefit and improve the most. My only question of Gillis would not be regarding any of the quality deals he acquired this offseason, but what has yet to be done, which is to upgrade the 12th or 13th spot. I don't have a problem with Dalpe - imo he is the 14th man. I've been a bit of a broken record regarding those 12th/13th spots, but I think there's cap space and players available to improve those spots, and with three guys out of the lineup as has been the case, those upgrades would come in handy - with a healthy roster, perhaps not such an issue, but still guys I'd much rather see than Weise or Sestito rounding out the third spon on the fourth line.
