  1. Dreger calling the Coil the most improved team this offseason... After adding a couple former Leafs and Duncan Keith.... I like Hyman - but adding Ceci while losing Larsson and Bear - adding Keith while Klefbom appears to be a question mark... Not sure I'd be too excited about anything in Edmonton aside from what Hyman brings to a team that desperately needed help on the wing.
  2. Sharing an AHL team with St Louis.... and having so many Laffs leftovers to clear out.... Clearly left lots of room to bring in new faces.
  3. yes - lol. shocker eh. not my go-to guy for takes tbh lol - but he made a few good points - ie people in general are sleeping on OEL, and Garland is a beauty. basically, he liked the deal with Zona fwiw - and thinks the young core is better than the results this year suggest (anyone that paid any attention to the team this year ought to realize that there were a whole lot of negative, mitigating factors - not the least of which was 22 players with covid...). I'm not sure they are the most improved as a result of their moves, but they could achieve some of the most improved results by virtue of how low this season set the bar.
  4. thanks - another captain one-liner - always convincing.
  5. O'Neill just chose Vancouver as the team he thinks improved the most thus far this offseason....
  6. "bottom pairing" is an increasingly meaningless term in the modern NHL. but regardless - by objective standards - he wasn't a bottom pairing - he was Wpg's #4.
  7. The combination of: - not ponying up 5.5 for Danault and then... - spending 4.5 on Hoffman for me might be the worst turn of events I've seen today. I like the Habs - so I'm not impressed.
  8. I agree - that they are/have been comparable. DeMelo is a solid rhd imo - penalty killer - good tweener. Clearly Maurice preferred Poolman - he utilized him more. I'm fine with this deal - I like Poolman's mobility and was impressed with his ability to take away time and space when I got to see him more in the playoffs. The Jets were pre-committed - would have had to deal DeMelo to re-sign Poolman. Instead they went out and bolstered their greater need - LHD.
  9. would you trade him one for one for DeMelo - who Winnipeg signed to a 4 yrs X 3.0 million last offseason?
  10. typical day on CDC - the poopooing of this signing - has eaten up a comparable amount of posts/pages - as all 11 of their other UFA signings combined.
  11. so what you're saying - is that those GMs wanted Poolman to give them a draft pick? what a weak analogy wadr.
  12. Seems like Bergevin has done an about-face on the solid work heading up to last season. this summer - (Savard aside) - not impressed.
  13. that's the range that I would have been interested in Savard. was expecting him to get a bit more considering the frenzy. perhaps he just wanted to be a Hab Has awfully big skates to fill there, though.
  14. that trade is getting some of the most bizarre woosh takes I've ever seen.
  15. yes - I'd agree with that in general - and the reality was that at least half the forward group were waiver claims, prospects, AHL callups on a regular basis - which didn't make things any easier for the young defenseman - but while I like what Hamonic brings in general and don't have a problem with his cap hit - it's whether he becomes a better fit for Hughes that is what I want to see. In general I'm very happy with what the team has accomplished this offseason - but from the outset I think the primary task/need was to find the right partner for Hughes - and I'm not sure they've done that, unless that's OEL (or perhaps even Poolman) then it's back to the Hughes Hamonic pairing.... Maybe I should give Hamonic more benefit of the doubt - but as opposed to wondering what a pairing looks like, we've seen what Hughes Hamonic looked like (granted in unfortunate circumstances). I think when it comes down to it I'd just like to see primarily a more mobile guy in that role.
  16. I'd wait to see what Poolman looks like in this lineup before calling him a 'replacement level d-man' - which is entirely misrepresentative of his role in Winnipeg - where he played a more significant role than Dylan DeMelo, a veteran RHD who averaged 20 minutes the previous 4 seasons - signed to a 4 x 3 million deal.... My concern with the right side is not Poolman - it's bringing back Hamonic if the intent is to pair him with Hughes - he'll need to be considerably better imo.
  17. gotta love bulldog. best of luck, even if you're now a Laff.
  18. Hard to rip a team that has never been able to provide any winger scoring - whatsoever - support for McMe and Draisaitl - finally going out and getting a worker like Hyman - who at the very least should give them some production and presence in the hard areas. The contract may be hefty - but what real choice did they have? If you don't go more in on the next few years of these players - when are you going to? My concern with the Oilers is what they've done with their blueline. I'm not sure things get any prettier from the viewpoint of keeping the puck out of their own net....
  19. I'm really going to miss Edler. Probably my favorite moment in his career.....
  20. nothing to like about him whatsoever! sounds like another case of you knowing nothing about a player (you didn't know who Dickinson was either - which pretty much indicates what a weekend warrior your are where the NHL is concerned ) doesn't stop you from parroting whatever you hear from your smarmy twitter 'sources'.
