With the NBA doing play in tournaments how about if the NHL adapts a similar process for Wild Card Teams. In that instead of a play in tourament it will be a TRIPLE THREAT MATCH!!!

Could contain: Adult, Male, Man, Person, Concert, Crowd, Face, Head

So the Playoff Bracket of the Western Confernece (using last year's standings) it will look like this

    Pacific

    • Vegas
    • Edmonton
    • LA

    Central

    • Colorado
    • Dallas
    • Minnesota

    Wild Card

    • Seattle
    • Winnipeg

Instead now the Wild Card teams (and other teams lower in the standings will complete under TRIPLE THREAT RULES!!!)

Wild Card Triple Threat (Best of 7 match up)

    • Seattle (7th) vs. Vancouver (11th)  vs. St. Louis (12th)
    • Winnipeg (8th) vs. Calgary (9th) vs. Nashville (10th)

Winner in each advanced to the wild card spots

    So here are the rules

    • The Rink will be converted to a Triangular Format and each corner will be a team's Goal. Offside, Neutral Zone, Icing still applies but changed due to the dimension of the triangle
    • Faceoffs are done at the center of the triangle with 3 players of each team taking the draw
    • Fights are also done in a Triple Threat Match as 5 min penalties are still given to a player of each team.
    • If the game is tied between the three teams at the end of regulation all 3 teams will be involved in OT. If the scored is tied between two teams only 2 teams will be involved and the Rink will be reformatted to a traditional Oval Rink.
    • OT rules are now done in Elimination format. If a team is scored on they are eliminated.

    What do you think?

Sry what’s team friendly deal are we talking about? What 28 year old with a consistent production signed a 2mil contract with Pearson 40 points at the time 15-20 goals production? Gm upset? Gm are always upset at deals. Just like I’m sure gm are upset at all the deals ppl are giving to rookies with no little to no track records 8 year 7-8mil contracts based on potentials. You think pa is happy with Sanderson getting 8mil for just 77 games and 3x points? What’s hronek going to ask for next year? Especially if Sanderson only gets 30ish points again this season?

Here's the problem Pearson is not consistent. Canucks army wrote about his inconsistencies when got extended and if he was consistent the Pens wouldn't have given him up for Gudbransson.

gimme a break.. he's on pace for 35-40 points every season over 82 games 15-20 goals.. can play up and down the lineup pk and everything for 3.25mil and we are complaining about that's a bad contract?? he pretty much on pace for as much as beauvillier.. does more on the ice for 1mil cheaper and people are saying beauvillier is not bad his contract is easily tradeable etc?? his cost per point is exactly where it needs to be 100k/point. where are you going to find these 30-40 point guy that can pk for 2mil?

Considering the flat cap, the team friendly deals wingers in their late 20s or early 30s were taking at the time it was an over payment .

Also when other GMs are upset the deal Benning made on the extension you know it was a bad deal

Pearson is a solid player on a decent contract with no term left after this year.

Montreal will be able to trade him for another 3rd or better at the deadline.  This one hangs on the new regime again mishandling the cap so they were forced to make the move.  I am not Benning fan, but there have been a lot of contracts signed since he left as well for us to be in this cap situation.

I don't know about it being a decent contract. If I recall there were teams that were pretty upset about the deal Pearson got because it meant having to either add more term or money to resign their top 9 / 3rd line forwards. I forgot the players but I recall LA and Philly were some of those teams not happy with the ripple effect the Pearson extension had on their respective negotiations.  I believe Friedman even reported this.

If the contract you structured for a player is so bad that even other teams see it, then it's pretty bad

That longer term argument is valid. And makes a good case for Hughes. But it’s disappointing that so many fans fall for the Vancouver Inquirer deadbeats in this town. The “distraction” was exclusively stirred up by certain media members making a mountain out of a mole hill. And please find one interview where JT made himself or the team look bad. IMO he is by far the best with the media . He’s as honest and humble off the ice as he’s passionate and forward on the ice. So happy he’s here.

One time he gave a curt response after the stick slam. Because he nor his teammates were concerned about it. All players have a bad day. There are interviews of Quinn where he’s looked quite arrogant. Denying his own sub par performance on the ice. Petey has been short with reporters a couple of times as well. Miller wears his heart on his sleeve which is endless fodder for the amateur hacks in this town

There was that incident with Schenn and when he was asked about it he threw the f-bomb due to frustration. I get people here don't like the media but it doesn't look good when the captain can't act like that especially when things are tough.

I guess the thing about Miller is that he is who he is at this point personality wise. Hughes and Pettersson still have more room to grow as NHL players.

I want a captain that scares people.

I'm tired of polite and courteous...it gets us nowhere.

Quinn has some great attributes and this is not knocking him. What he lacks in fire is offset by other traits. He is a phenomenal player and a sensible guy from what we've seen.

I just want a team with pushback and emotion. No settling. I might slam a stick or two myself this year.

I don't think it's him striking fear really scares me (since he's not exactly that kind of player) but it's him emotions getting the  better of him. When things are good, it's great but when things are bad it becomes a distraction and his handling of the media is not exactly ideal. If the organization wants a fresh start from all the drama, Miller wearing the C is quite risky

To me Hughes and Pettersson were the only logical choices (granted Canucks can extend Pettersson long term). Their age assures they will still be the best players and on top form in 7 to 8 years time. While Miller bring captain but possibly regressing in 3 to 4 years might be problematic. It's always ideal to have one of your best players wearing the C imo

Actually I think we do know what happened.  The coach, who struggles with connecting with his players off the ice, tried to use sharing family photos as a way to bridge the gap. Yes, it’s strange to share photos with people we don’t know. But nothing nefarious was going on.
Any player who leaked private meeting information with this Biz idiot should be cut from the club. Don’t want that kind of scum (who’s so closely connected with scum) in the room.

Yep pretty much what Jenner said. I guess there's no problem taking the official statements in face value. In any event my faith that hockey organizations are going to be transparent in stories (like or similar to these) are currently in an all time low .
