Such Sedinery ... a diabolical Sedinery -
[DEBATE] Which is the worst trade in Vancouver Canucks history?
iinatcc replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Because there's a good chance he's never going to recover from that injury. I am not saying he's always going to stay hurt but an injury at that age (for a guy whose skating is already in a decline), he's never going to return to form and even less likely live to that contract. -

I guess the decision on buying out OEL depends on how you feel about this core. If you believe in this core, then the Canucks need to do a buy out to support the core. If you have no faith in this core then it's best to blow it up so no point buying out OEL. -

Swedish people are very private people. Maybe the Sedins privately don't like OEL but couldn't say it in public -

That is also. I think one podcaster said it. He doubts the Sedins were watching every Coyotes game that pervious season. -

If true it says more about the decision making about Benning to put all his eggs in one basket listening to two guys w/o hockey management experience. I can see the Sedins endorsing OEL seeing as they saw him as a peer they respect but I doubt they were looking at things like the contract, the future implications on the cap, the assets the team has to give up, and his season to season performance with the Yotes. I mean those are things I just don't see the Sedins were taking into consideration their first few months on the job. Also the Sedins are both 42. Pretty young somoene in an NHL executive position and should be seen as people with little experience on this. Maybe in 5 to 10 years we can see if they really have what it takes to be in these roles. -

He's more like a broken clock. He got the Miller trade right. That's the only trade/deal he won of significance the 8 years as GM. You mention Eriksson and OEL. There's also the Gudbransson trade, the Sutter trade, the Bärtschi trade, the Beagle and Roussel signings, Myers deal, Dickinson trade and signing. As folks in Sportsnet said Benning's movies have been death by a thousand cuts. -

OEL is 31. Even if he was injured most of f last season do you expect him to fully return to form prior to his injury. Plus his skating has already been problematic when he was in Arizona. His foot injury is going to make this worse long term. I think that's the problem people here. People seem to expect the best case scenario with our players that they will recover and return 100% after an injury. Even if the player is in his 30's And that's the fallacy Benning (and people here for that matter ) has, we always anticipate the outcome to be the best case scenario -

Isn't it always the coach. "The core is great blah blah blah ... it's just the coaching" -

Is this even allowed? Something tells me this would have been a loophole the NHL or NHLPA would have closed -

Oh don't get me wrong this would take either a miracle or luck or some really savvy moves by Allvin or all of the above for this to happen. But this is the only path where year 3 and 4 won't hurt the team -

A 5th defenseman he is. Actually that's how folks in the Coyotes media saw him (4th and 5th dman). But of course Benning, in his infinite wisdom, said in the media he saw OEL as a top pairing dman. -

Yep so management has to be careful (and luck) in managing the next 4 years. The hope is that you can get someone in a D for a 2 or 3 year contract (if that is even possible lol) and maybe some D-prospect emerges as an NHL caliber d-man within 2 to 3 years so he can be can be paid with this ELC. -

You know when OEL joined the team people here kept saying his contact is not that bad and scoffed at the local media when they said OEL is a future buy out candidate. I think we have to give the media and analyst more credit even if they are quite alarmist -

This is the thing Canucks again with freeing up cap space. Leverage. I was thinking Canucks would have to give up an asset to trade Garland or get basically nothing. Now the team can actually get something for him if they decide to trade him -

This management still has to iron things out though. The PR last season was a nightmare and it's clear Rutherford didn't anticipate how things work in a Canadian Market. -

Hopefully by some miracle a prospect emerges as a top 4 dman during the time when the cap hit is over 4 million so he can be in his ELC. But, like I said, that would be a miracle -
