  1. Actually it was someone in Sportsnet but the argument here for Minny is that even if this hurts them now, at least they put themselves in a spot where they have control over the situation situation. Unlike Vancouver where Vancouver had no control over Luongo retiring or putting him in LTIR. So the argument is still that Minny is in a better spot than Vancouver
  2. Maybe he's banking Keith will still have one good year in him and maybe retires the next season. Or use some the LTIR magic
  3. The hockey Gods must really like the Blackhawks. They win 3 cups in their dynasty era after 2 years of missing the playoffs they move up the draft to the third overall and get rid of Keith's contract while acquire some good assets. Like the two things that are supposed to happen to the Hawks after being a top team (a dry prospect pool and bad contracts) they were able to avoid. How lucky can a team get?
  4. Um isn't he the one credited in why the Pens selected Markus Naslund ?
  5. So I saw all this in the first few pages of this thread I just wanted to add this very appropriate Gif
  6. wow he's already 31? It was just yesterday he was like a 20+ year old star
  7. Hmmm some reports suggets that there is some talks in about a trade but nothing official or film. At the very least it does point to Schmidt wanting out of Vancouver. Friedman didn't confirm it flat out but he does feel like there's some discussions about it. I don't have the exact quote though
  8. Reports from the media says yes and even Elliot Friedman mentioned something of the sort
  9. Ideally that would be the best case scenario but I think if a guy wants out of organization he's probably going to cause more harm than good in the locker room. As for a bounce back season if Schmidt isn't happy in Vancouver he's likely not going to step up with the organization. Similar to Ryan O'Reilly or Taylor Hall when they were in Buffalo they needed to leave the organization for them to be able to bounce back again Unfortunately, when it's all said and done, we might have to accept this is another Loss in the list of Benning's moves as a GM. Unless if the later round pick Canucks gets from Schmidt ends up a steal
  10. Canucks got Schmidt for a 3rd when his value was higher. Now Schmidt just looks like a bad contract Benning has to get rid of if he really wants out of Vancouver. Canucks would be lucky to get a 2nd. My prediction is that Canucks will probably have a deal like Schmidt and Canucks' 2nd for the other teams 3rd and 5th round pikcs
  11. I really like this idea and basically is similar to the alignment in the NFL. Though I can't see Detroit agreeing to return to the Western conference in fact, part of the reason why we have the 4 division alignment after the Jets returned to the league was that Detroit wanted to be part of the Eastern Conference. But I do like the overall structure, the recent 4 division structure really doesn't do a good job fostering rivalry within the division during the regular season and I also don't like the playoff format since it is prone to repetitive playoff series each year. I also say this could give the NHL an opportunity to reduce the number of regular season games to 72 or 75 but I guess the Owners and the league would never agree to this. So if we go by the 82 game schedule we could do something like this 6 games from teams in your own division - 6 x 3 = 18 4 games from teams of another division of the same Conference - 4 x 4 = 16 3 games from teams of the other two division of the same conference - 3 x 8 = 24 2 games from 8 of the teams outside the conference - 8 x 2 = 16 1 game from a remaining teams outside the conference - 1 x 8 = 8 - the division where to play the 4 games circulates each year - The 8 teams outside the conference is both circulates and predetermined (example Canadian teams will play 2 games each, then you have Chicago vs. Detroit or St. Louis vs Detroit playing 2 games a season). - Playoff Format will be the division winners will secure the Top 4 seeds while the remaining bottom are based on conference standings. My Division Idea Northwest CGY VAN EDM SEA PACIFIC LAK SJS ANH VGK SOUTHWEST ARI DAL COL NSH CENTRAL CHI MIN STL WIN ATLANTIC NYR NYI NJD BOS NORTHEAST OTT TOR MTL BUF MIDWEST DET CBJ PIT PHI SOUTHEAST WSH FLA TBL CAR
  12. I think we discussed other teams doing this even the Canucks and it's hard to say what would have happened. It's possible Ferland wouldn't have recovered on time if the season played out as it did. That said the Tampa situation, though legal I guess, seems fishy. I get the multiple argument made for this (i.e. Tampa was good enough not to need him in the Regular season, or the NHL did validate his injury status) but the circumstances feel a bit too convenient for Tampa.
  13. Yeah especially on how long and arduous playing the regular season and playoffs was
  14. Don't worry once a Canadian team does something to this extend the NHL will take notice
  15. With Benning as the GM, I don't think so. one of Benning's biggest weakness is overpaying players where Yzermam, when he was still the GM, can sign or resign players in very good deals. Just look at Kucherov's and Hedman's contracts. It would be a miracle of Benning can sign Hughes and Pettersson with long term contracts on a similar amount
  16. So regarding this ... doesn't every organization work with the NHL scheduling team to discuss the regular season schedule? If the schedule so bad why didn't the Canucks push back on the schedule or make suggestions?
  17. It's a win-loss for both I think but in any events both teams got a cup run out of it
  18. Miller isn't exactly a big fish he was a good piece for the Bolts that happened to just step up when he join the Canucks. Schmidt is a Top 4 d-man but it's hardly a blockbuster trade. Seth Jones has a down year on a bad CBJ team but he's still an elite-D man and the same age as MacKinnon. That said I don't think Vancouver has the assets to get Jones in a trade and he could just walk after next season. In which case if the Avs do not win the cup next season I can see him joining the Avs anyways.
  19. RIP Stuff like this really scare me. I remember when I was on vacation and I was pretty careless walking backwards in some side steps. I think I forgot about walking in such a narrow path one slip I would have fell 6 to 7 feet. I still wonder what would have happened if I slipped. So yeah stuff like this just brings chills
  20. To me it's the case if doing an IF ELSE during these playoffs. The fact that the Habs (the #4 team in the North) beat the Golden Knights who in turn beat the Avs (the #2 and #1 teams in the West) means that the North Division was stronger than the West. But since the Bolts swept the Habs in the Finals and that the Islanders(#4 in the East) took the Bolts to 7 games means that the Central and East divisions were stronger than the Norh and, in effect, the West.
  21. 1. Central Divison - heavyweights like Tampa, Carolina, and Florida. Imagine if Tampa was in full roster? It would have been a bigger blood bath 2. East Divison - still has the 2 most recognizable names in the NHL today (Crosby and Malkin) plus the Islanders took Tampa to 7 games 3. North Division - no power house team but no bottom of the barrel bottom feeders either. Plus Habs beating Vegas shows even a middling North Division team can beat the top of the West. 4. West Division - Has the Avs and Vegas but with the way The Habs beat Vegas and how badly The Habs lost to the Bolts shows that maybe the top teams in the west aren't as strong as people think. Perhaps the top teams in the West just got some easy points against the lower ranked teams easier than the other divisions
  22. What I am hearing from the media is that he actually a heart and soul leader
  23. yep he's basically the Leaf's Roussel but better and at more than 1/3 the salary
