Yeah don't sleep on LA. They finsihed almost as high as Vancouver, and probably higher if Calgary just tried to win their games. Plus they did ok considering they are in the same Division as Colorado and Vegas and the cup champions 2 seasons ago. Gabe Villardi looks like the real deal and Quinton Byfield is going to be a stud They may not make it to the playoffs in the next couple of years but don't think Vancouver can just pluck points away from them either
-
Honestly I think The Rangers (who actually have more points than Montreal actually) are quite close being a playoff team after only 3 years of Rebuilding. Joe Sakic has been the GM for the Avs as long as Benning has for Vancouver and look how far apart the two teams are

Benning put himself in that position unfortunately. Ok Covid and Luongo was out of his hands (though I would argue he could have done something with the last one) But those bad contacts finally caught up with him and the team and would have done so even without Covid and Lungo's retirement. Though it did accelerate it. I get that he had to do what ownership wanted but everyone has a boss. It was still up to Benning how to execute the mandate from Ownership. I doubt Ownership directly tell Benning go sign Eriksson, trade for Sutter and extend him and so on.

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
iinatcc replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I do hope Podkolzin pans out for the team but, like I said, there are many here already slotting him as a Top 6 player next season and that probably won't happen immediately. That said I do have high hopes for him and crossing my fingers he could be The Canuck's Mikko Rantanen. -
I will give him more credit ... let's make it 4.5 Million But really if anything this seasons really showed how much past action can affect the franchise. Let's just hope he learns from this moving forward because the franchise cannot endure another near implosion like this season

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season

I keep forgetting Hamonic because he was signed long after the Free Agent frenzy that season. Yes Hamonic was a pretty good pick up but The Canucks were lacking in depth and the team had a golden opportunity to address both their problem in D and Forwards. As for Toffoli being less of a need the team still needs depth and most Cup winning teams have 3 scoring lines and Toffoli's 4 year contract would have both a good medium term fix and allowed flexibility once his contract is up. Problem is now Benning probably needs to address this same problem in the next few off seasons and who knows if a deal that Toffoli got would be available to make. As for Podkolzin we all high hopes for him but he hasn't even played a single NHL game yet. He might not even start as a Top 6 and might be a bottom 6 guy first before making it a a Top 6. Also his KHL numbers are not that impressive either and, while his game might translate better in the NHL, we won't know how he will pan out in the NHL level. -
Now Official - Canucks Lottery pick from 9th position

Benning is and should be in his last chance I think. So one more mistake and I wouldn't be surprised if he is let go. Yzermam would be great but I think there are other GMs that also has some good qualifications. Dean Lombardi, or even Ray Shero -

Well, like I said, it's not so much about Toffoli himself it's how the organization sees value and how they manage the cap. You can't tell me 3 to 4 million with term for 4th line players or bottom 6 players but can't seem to pay 4.25 for a top 6 is good decision making and management? Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle and Sutter all combined 22 pts (I think) this season with a cap of around $16 million. I can't imagine picking that over a player that had 44 pts with a $ 4.25 million cap -

Other teams were able to sign players to good deals due to the pandemic. If anything covid allowed teams to gain the leverage on last seasons UFA Plus if the cap did go up the Free Agents would have signed for more. -

Yeah but the opportunity to sign Toffoli on a really good deal was there and it was an opportunity management didn't seize. Also right or wrong, if one of Benning's move during the off season is to sign a Top 6 winger the deal he signs is going to be compared with the deal Toffoli got for Montreal. Let's put it this way if this off-season Benning sings Matt Hoffman to a 5 year 5 million dollar contract. It's going be compared with Toffoli's contract with Montreal. -

How is Toffoli a flash in the pan? He's was an important piece of the Kings' 2nd cup win and has only gotten better since leaving LA? Honestly I don't think the fixation is Tyler Toffoli per se. It's a management that said yes to paying a 4th line player 3 years 4 million but said no to a Top 6 scorer for 4 years 4.25 million. So it's more the questionable asset management. -
Didn't realize we lived in the same neighborhood. I used to live 5 mins away from the Pacific Collesium

That it was only 56 games. Imagine going through this with a 82 game schedule

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Top 3 goes to Chicago, Rangers, and Kings? -
Well let's put it this way, Reinhart is 3 years younger than Miller. Scoring a 60 pt 82 game season and could get better and entering his prime years. I doubt Buffalo is going to accept Reinhart for Miller straight up but I was thinking a 1st might entice them. Of course if Canucks win the lottery then probably not.

If it was normal than why is this being reported by the media? Also it seems consistent with what a lot of people in the media have been saying about the Canucks .. that the reputation of the organization is really bad right now. And not a lot of people wants to stay in a organization with a bad rep
