2019 NHL Draft Lottery | April 9th, 5:00pm PT
iinatcc replied to Roberts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I got this from NBC here's what Stan Bowman said ... "I just believe that's the only way it works is you've got to try to win the games," My response is so how did Chicago get Toews and Kane again? "I never believed in trying to lose games. I've said that before, and honestly, our guys want to win. And we owe it to our fans to try and win as many games as we can. Athletes are competitive. We pushed our team all year. Don't try to worry about the draft, those things have a way of working themselves out. Obviously I didn't know it work out this way. ... There's no question that we're in a different category now picking in the Top 3. It's sort of poetic justice that it worked out that way." Basically he's saying yes the NHL's stupid lottery system helped us out and the Hawks sucking in the mid 2000's and bad teams today not being able to have the same drafting advantages as them in the period they got Kane and Toews was poetic Justice? sounds pretty arrogant and selfish to me Source https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/blackhawks/why-moving-top-3-nhl-draft-game-changer-blackhawks -

And what was Chicago's chance of moving up to the 3rd overall? -

Maybe someone in the GMs meeting will ask Bettman how can Chicago, a team just had a dynasty for 9 years, move up 3rd overall. And maybe they can change the lottery system. -
Not really since that angle made it to the story of their match at WM.

Yeah Wrestlemania in recent years is just too long. WWE needs to keep the main show at 4 hours max. That said the PPV was pretty good there was a dead spot between Kofi/Bryan and the Women's Main Event. I was actually worried that that dead period would have killed the crowd for the Women's Main Event. Thankfully, people were still into the match even if's obvious the crowd was exhausted by then. Some notes: Match of the Night was Kofi vs. Bryan, it' really picked up at the end and it was great feel good moment to see Kofi win. I think WM proves that Bryan is probably the best full time worker in the company Women's Main Event was also really good I think. The work rate was high with some sloppy spots (but it happens) and I was actually fine with the finished even with the botched shoulder since it's a good way to protect Rousey and opens a return match with Rousey and Becky. Two years ago I said Triple H just needs to stop wrestling and his match with Batista proves my point. Triple H vs. Batista was just really boring to watch it went way too long and I just wanted it to end. Shawn Michaels commentary is really bad. The moment The Iconics won the Women's Tag Team Championship I realized this division is dead Rollins and Lesnar opening up WM was actually fine for me. Paul Heyman did a good job selling the idea to the fans of opening WM with a World Title Match. Kurt Angle losing to Baron Corbin was a sad sight to see. I know you are supposed to lose on your way out but why did it have to Corbin. I know Angle can't really go anymore but I would have been fine with a 8 min match with Kevin Owens but not Corbin. But I am happy Angle got his send off. Miz vs. Shane is horrible. I actually like The Miz as a baby face in this storyline but the match was horrible. Great to see rapper Cena again. Goes to show fans only started boo'ing Cena once he got rid of his rapper gimmick and became the "all america" clean cut baby face NXT Take Over New York was still better AJ Styles and Orton was ok. It went way too long for not really a lot happening. They told a good story especially with teasing the RKO. Overall a pretty good show that went way too long. I am happy Kofi won, I am happy the Women got to main event and Becky winning, and I loved how it started. So yeah it was a nice feel good way to end Wrestlemania. Overall I'd give this event a B

Well we don't know if that is by design or just happend to end up that way. While the core youth of the team has been impressive management seems to prefer trading for 25 to 30 year olds rather than draft picks (schenn for del zotto, motte for Vanek, and Pearson for Gudbranson)

[Speculation] Adam Fox testing UFA status next summer.

This is normally my argument with people praising how bold the Rangers organization initating a rebuild. Yes it was the right move for the Rangers. But when top college prospects and free agents normally target your team the process of rebuilding becomes faster -
1040 has Jason Botchford and he's always entertaining

Agreed when LA were one of the top teams of the conference and winning those cups I've always envied their roster and Person was one of those players I wanted. He wasn't a superstar or even a star player but he was a good piece to complement the stars of your team and can produce offense. So I'm glad he's a Canuck now.

I think we are a bit too paranoid on this topic. We've seen other teams weasel their way out of the recapture penalty one form of the other so I can't see why Vancouver can't do the same.

In my defense I was drunk when I posted this

Is Markstrom now the Elite Goalie he was always projected to be?
iinatcc replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
Basically what we all thought of Cody Hodgson at the time -
I think most people at the time wanted Matthew Tkachuk at the time. I don't think hindsight has changed much since. Plus wouldn't Matthew Tkachuk look good now scoring and standing up for the team and players like Petterson.
-
No saying Markstrom is a #1 but those stats don't tell the whole story. If I'm not mistaken those are better regual season stats that Patrick Roy when he won the cup with the Habs.
-
Well Leafs and the Habs, I believe the issue was that another Canadian team would have taken TV time from both Teams.
-
Or maybe he's just average. His numbers with other NHL clubs are also pretty below average. Maybe he knew he was playing small sample set of games so he decided to give 110% so he doesn't lose his spot to Demko?
-
He's currently an UFA it's not too late to turn back the time and have him at a Canucks uniform. This could still be the face of the franchise
