  1. Canucks were a 105 to 107 pt team under Boudreau during the 2021 - 2022 season. And if systems was really the problem here how come no one here was bringing it this up and thinking the Canucks could replicate their performance with Boudreau for next season? My observation, at least, is that people here are just as confident now going to next season under Tocchet as they did with Boudreau. So really nothing has changed unless we can see actual results.
  2. I think the problem I am seeing is that everyone (before the season starts) is expecting the best possible result and outcome. When, in reality, that is never the case. Last season I've read arguments why the Canucks would be the Top 3 of the division citing reasons like "Podkolzin is going to take a step forward", Boeser returning to form, Rathbone soldifying his spot in the main roster, etc. along with external factors like "LA Kings veteran players are going to regress", and "Vegas won't make the playoffs especially since their starting goalie is out". I think your reason, and the reason for others here, is leaning towards the overly optimistic here. OEL turns 32 next season he was pretty good 2 years ago but now with his injury it's a big ask for him to put it all together at this age and stage of his career. I am not saying is not possible but it's too big of an expectation to bet that the D will take a huge step forward mostly due to OEL. I think the OP is also thinking the bottom 6 could be filled by some younger guys in the system ready to take a step forward and the acquisition of Hronek (who was basically hurt last quarter of the regular season) and we still have to wonder why would Yzerman trade for him if he was such an integral piece to any team's defensive lineup. Point is, I think we are too optimistic in this D-core based soley that all our projections will hit. And this raleley happens. It's basically like we are going to a routlette table and thinking we will score big because our numbers (or color ) will hit. It's too big of a gamble.
  3. I wouldn't call it leaps and bounds. Hornek will make the D better but not by that much. I just don't see how come we have to be overconfident with this team again (remember how we were do confident the D got an upgrade because of Schmidt?). We already tried to justify the D good enough before the start of the least season because of the teams' GAA once Boudreau took over (which was mostly due to Demko ). I think every year we try to find a reason to believe this team is better but I think this team has ran out of "benefit of the doubt" card.
  4. Didn't we have the same discussion as last year ? People here saying the D isn't that bad and it turns out it was. I think we have to face facts that the teams Defense is just not good enough. And for anyone saying it's became Demko was hurt, other teams were able to make do for a handful of months with their backup goaltenders (heck Vegas is on their 3rd goalie now in their conference finals)
  5. Canucks problems are like Cap Problems ...
  6. Weisbrod, Benning, and Chiarelli It's time to bring the band together again
  7. Pettersson for Glass All is what was supposed to be
  8. I like Garland but yes you are right. Let's not forget Anders "The Beast" Nilsson's performance in the World Championships.
  9. at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if the window of this Canucks' core never get a chance to even open the window It's Oil Change Oilers all over again
  10. Maybe it just takes the right line up to motivate some people? Tkachuk wasn't exactly a playoff demon with the Flames
  11. That world juniors really had every person salivating for the two Finnish forwards. Laine and Puljujarvi would be the next great big scoring power forwards in the league. In the end the real jewel in that Finnish team was Sebastian Aho. I still think Matthews is #1 though
  12. Feels more like that is a Calgary problem The Jets (ok Trouba wanted out of Canada) but seemed to have kept their American born players quite well. And this is in Winnipeg
  13. My dream booking is that when Owens returns to Vancouver (hopefully a televised event) he invites Boudreau and allows Bruce to cut a heel promo on Vancouver and the Canucks
  14. Apparently from the article it seemed Benning was convince the Aqualinis that the team was just "one big move away" from competing. It actually scares me that, if this is true, Benning, who has had no skills in negotiating, was able to con the Aqualinis for so long. However it also did mention that unlike the previous management team, Aqualini is letting Rutherford run the show since he has too much respect for Rutherford to do otherwise.
  15. I was listening to Sportsnet and while many players do have a "no Canadian city" mindset some do make Vancouver as an exception. Perhaps Tkachuk would have liked living in Vancouver and decided to stay. Or he leaves. But, as I said, that's always a risk when drafting a player.
  16. Can you guarantee EP or Hughes won't do the same? In the end this is a risk every time you draft a player. Plus there's always a chance Tkachuck stays in Vancouver longer term than Calgary.
  17. Which most analysts tell you, that you never do in the 1st round.
  18. Yeah but the only difference is that your user name will be Matthew Tkachuck.
  19. Last season they made it to the conference finals. And the Devils were a very good team and elite in their own right too.
  20. True but I think it speaks a lot of the Rangers organization that, despite missing out in key 1st round picks or their lottery wins haven't panned out as expected, they still were able to rebuild/retool to become one of the elite teams in the league.
  21. Yeah I remember when Canucks acquired him and people here we're thinking he's going to be a top 6 player and I warned to temper expectations but people here kept pushing back that Kratsov has upside and blamed the Rangers organization for not developing him or giving him opportunities. In predictable manner now I am seeing people here blame Kratsov instead of the Canucks organization (as they did with the Rangers) .
  22. Honestly I think it's just his mannerisms. He's actually pretty good as commentator though he was much better when he was doing NXT.
