  1. It's hard to gauge that playoff season due to the circumstances in the bubble but one could argue if it wasn't for Covid the Canucks probably would have been outside looking in based on the trend they were headed before the pause. Having said that your argument is that the Canucks have improved due the experience plus roster upgrade in the forward position. Yes the Defense has either remained the same or a little worse. The other arguments you made is that some of the team's younger players are bound to get better. Which you are right but you could also argue some of the older players won't be as effective as well (looking at OEL). The other thing is that all the improvements you mentioned, we also have to consider other team's improvement as well. Ducks may not be a playoff team but they could take some pts away from The Canucks LA Kings - Are starting to look dangerous again. They made it to the playoffs, took the Oilers to 7 games, added Fiala, and they also have some young players that could take a step this season.
  2. Maybe ... but for now that remains to be seen. Until then I we can't really say that yet. Remember how people were saying Virtanen is the type of player we need in the playoffs? That never materialized either.
  3. To be honest if all this happened to, let's say, The Oilers we would be saying the following instead: Signed another entitled Russian Signed a 1st round bust as a reclamation project Overpaid for a 3rd line player Overpaid contract that will not age well in 2 years or something like that Not saying you are wrong but I bet you this would our narrative if another team did the same
  4. don't you have to make the Playoffs first? With Miller on the team the team made it to the playoffs only 1 season. What is my point, you can't say he's a kind of player you win the cup with if him being on the team isn't even enough to make the playoffs.
  5. Missed it by 4 games. Still he gets to celebrate it and who knows ... perhaps he gets an exception?
  6. There's no denying that his NHL career didn't live up to his draft class. Regardless he's still won a cup which is one of the big goals and achievement every hockey player dreams of. So not really a bust all things considered
  7. Oh I can't find that thread but there was discussion how I said if only Canucks lost one game and they would have been able to pick Zegras that draft. There were a lot people saying how "entitled" Zegras was or something like that. Even one person said they would (paraphrasing) have Podkolzin over Zegras any day of the week. I mean it shouldn't come as a surprise, it finally took many of here around 6 years to admit Ehlers and Nylander are better players than Virtanen.
  8. I am not but then again people here think Podkolzin is better than Zegras so ....
  9. I guess the main criticism would be that the new management team really hasn't done much to change or improve the team since they took over. Which is fair, but my counter argument would be imagine if Benning had remained, things would have gotten much worse.
  10. I could be wrong but from one of the interviews from Benning I had the impression that Makar and Heiskanen were ranked higher than Pettersson in the Canuck's draft board.
  11. I think proposals like this will mean if Canucks do end up trading Miller many are going to be disappointed in the return. Miller isn't going to fetch 2 young (or Youngish) NHL proven players in club control especially with the Sweetener (Hoglander) value is quite low right now. At this point Miller is probably fetching a 1st round pick + b-prospect at the deadline. Maybe a Tim Schaller player coming the Canucks' way also
  12. Oh to be sure. But I think most agreed that the LE contract will age poorly the final years of the deal same with Kadri's. I think Kadri is more than a 30 point player looking at his history he seems to hover that 45 to 60 pt mark. Now it's possible he could go back there but let's say for the sake of argument he's back to a 50 pt player. Which is still around the pt production of an average 2nd line center. And we also have to take to account Kadri has been more or less a PPG player in his playoff stints in Colorado which is what the Flames really need now, a playoff performer.
  13. Comparing Kadri to LE would be an extreme worst case scenario for Calgary. I didn't want to use his signing as an example but considering how people where stoked Canucks signed LE (despite some concerns with the Media on age and term). I don't really want to go there but if you look at the first 7 page in the LE thread prior to when the seasons started) we were all so positive. So why can't we be positive about Kadri who was doing monster numbers last season, you for the sake of consistency and to at least not show any homer or anti-Calgary bias ? There was even a point early in the calendar year that he was on the pace similar to Draisailt's point totals
  14. Both contracts will not likely age well. Yes you are right with the age and term. Difference is though Kadri is over a PPG player in the regular season and almost PPG player in the playoffs. Even if he doesn't replicate his production from last year even if he dips to let's say a 60 pt player 7 Million is still a good deal. As for the term you would hope he keeps that production 2 to 3 years in the contract and just declines after. So you could get hypothetically 2 or 3 seasons with Kadri as either a 1st or 2nd line center but decline to a 3rd line center soon after. OEL is basically a #3 and #4 defenseman right now. So yes 7.2 Million isn't that bad for that dman. But again he could also start to decline and if he does the team is stuck with a 7,2 million bottom paring Dman. Having a 3rd line center making 7 million sucks. But one could argue a 7 million #5 or #6 dman in the future could be worse. Yes it's possible OEL doesn't decline for the remainder of his contract, with some thinking he might have the longevity of Shea Weber. But the same could be said about Kadri, who knows maybe Kadri will have the career longevity of Joe Pavelski. Does the Kadri deal pose many risks in the future? Yes but I don't think we're really in a position to criticize this deal too much considering we've defended similar situations but on the Canucks's side.
  15. Well considering even the Arizona media don't consider him a top paring dman anymore that point is also arguable Also this https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-top-10-overpaid-defensemen-2021-22/ I think if we want to say OEL had a good contract we should at least acknowledge the Kadri deal as a decent one for Calgary
  16. "Good", "Not bad", "ok" Point is people here are willing to defend OEL's contract. Which makes criticizing this Kadri deal feel a bit strange
  17. I've had enough debates here with people saying OEL is a good contract to say quite a number of people here
  18. So the gist I am getting here is that this is a bad signing for Calgary getting Kadri 7 x 7. Kind of hard take the opinion here seriosuly when at the same time we are saying OEL is a good contract.
  19. So he's still a free agent. Any change Canucks take him?
  20. kind of crazy how he fell off. There was one point I would have ranked him as the #1 in a redraft. I guess injuries really got to him.
  21. Flames have a 2 year window I guess they don't really care about the backend of the deal right now. That said it's cup or bust for the Flames the next few seasons
  22. In these forums the conversation will probably go like "Joakim Kemell is a one dimensional player blah blah blah" and "Lekerimakki does all the right things something something"
