[Discussion] KADRI KANE TYPE OF PLAYERS...
iinatcc replied to hockeygod77's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I mean that is also true. Then again one season of Kane probably won't sour the locker room. Oilers signing of Kane was low risk high reward, but a much longer term will make things exponentially riskier. -
[Discussion] KADRI KANE TYPE OF PLAYERS...

I am fine with Kadri. But with Kane the problem is the off ice issues. He's a good player but if you don't have a strong enough locker room or leadership core, Kane is just going to cause more problems. I guess it's no coincidence that Kane started having issues in San Jose once Thorton, Marleau, and Pavelski were no longer part of the team. Unless Canucks have a strong leadership core and locker room (which I imagine still has some fragility), I can't see Kane being a fit in Vancouver. -
Haven't you heard? The trend now is to blame Forsling for the Panthers being down 3-0 in the series to Tampa

yeah i think holding the bots in 6 non-empty net goals in Regulation in the first 3 games is just fine. The fact the Panthers did is actually pretty amazing considering how average they were in GAA during the regular season. It's their scoring that is their bread a butter and made them the presidents trophy winners. That said I do hope Panthers pull through. I am not cheering for them or anything but I'd rather have a high scoring team like the Panthers win the cup. I still shudder remembering LA Kings won the cup being one of the worst offensive teams in the 2011 - 2012 season and managed to win a lot of 2-1 games.

I think the only fans didn't boo Bettman were the LA fans -

[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane

then Oilers would have to let him walk. I think Kane could work long term if it was with Pit, Tampa, or St. Louis. A team with a strong veteran leadership core. -

I would re-sign Kane if it was a shorter term with a reasonable cap hit. Maybe 2 or 3 years. It does seem, with the other teams, he seems to fit well with the team but wears out his welcome quite quickly. I think a 2-3 year contract for Kane isn't bad since it will also be quite tradeable. But going much longer, I would let him walk. -
I mean Sedins' publicly shrugged it off, it shows how a class act they are. That said Seguin and Benn, for leaders in their respective teams, to say something like that feels more like a bunch of frat boys rather than actual leaders and role models for the teams they represent. If I am going to cheer for a hockey team (not the Canucks) I want it to be a team with a respectful leadership core. Edit: It's not like I am cancelling them or anything but I don't want to cheer for them or their team either.

I think where the team was at Demko was the best option. I mean I wouldn't mind sticking to Markstrom mind you but I think knowing where the team is now. I think Demko is better option, since Markstrom is already 32, so will he still perform at the same level once the team becomes a contender 3 or 4 years later (ideally).

I mean now it's a mess. But there's no doubt the inaugural season shows how a cunning GM can build nothing into something. Also let's not forget that no one really took Vegas seriously as a threat in their initial season. What Vegas did to deal with other teams was brilliant. What's happening now not so much
