  1. LE only had one more year left. And Vancouver had to give up a it's picks. Plus the player Arizona picked is looking to turn out really well. And now Canucks are stuck paying a player the same amount Tamps is paying Hedman or less than a million less than Carlson. Doesn't really show good value for his contract
  2. Yep one big win in 8 years. I also thought Miller was a win, that said not enough to make the team a consistent playoff team
  3. I'm sorry if in any organization morale comes more from the leadership than your direct report.
  4. Exactly Vegas outsmarted all the GMs. Who has Benning ever outsmarted or had a big win in his deals?
  5. Nearly but not close enough. Plus even if the team made it to the playoffs whose to say it wouldn't be a sweep against the Avs like Nashville? Also even if the team made the playoffs what will happen next season. OEL still has a big overpaid contract. Also if you listened to Sportsnet 650 they discussed how poorly overall Benning managed the team. From him being too hands on to parting ways of Judd Brackett to Benning's lack of vision and communication
  6. Vegas went from zero to cup finalist in a season. Of course the situation is different but it goes to show what can a creative and cunning GM can do, something Benning was not. This should have been apparent the moment McCann and a early 2nd was traded for Gudbransson. Or overpaying Beagle and Roussel.
  7. No it's not because morale was reported to be really bad throughout the organization. Let's not underestimate the impact of poor management can do to a team.
  8. It's not ... but Benning had 8 years to build a team. And the best he did was a bubble playoff appearance and despite all his aggressive moves he did the team just missed the playoffs.
  9. See the video I posted earlier. Benning made a ton of bad moves. Gillis had his short comings but at least he managed a team that made it 1 win from winning the cup. How far has Benning reached ? A bubble playoff appearance in the 2nd round.
  10. My parents are pro-Marcoses and voted for Bongbong Marcos. While I still feel plenty of his supporters are from the younger generation, there are still those that remember Martial Law as a time of relative peace especially for those who were never impacted directly or indirectly at the atrocities of Martial Law in the past. I think it also helped that my Families business were most profitable during Martial Law.
  11. 4th round pick can be used to select a player or acquire a player. That said, even if the team made the playoffs I doubt this team would have gotten that far. Underlying numbers shows what Canucks did was not sustainable especially in the stat of giving up too many high danger chances. In the end we have to be realistic that the desperation moves Benning did is probably enough to make the team an above average team but not really a contender. What new management is doing is trying ( I hope ) is to make the team sustainable in the future. What Benning did was not sustainable even if the team made the playoffs this year, what about next year or the year after that? The shallow prospect pool + the team being only above average + lack of cap flexibility is not something ideal to make the team competitive year in year out.
  12. And lose Motte for nothing? The team was lacking assets, trading Motte was the right thing to do given the circumstances. Plus if Motte was the reason why the team missed the playoffs then the team has bigger problems that needs to be addressed then.
  13. But here's the thing Edler + Stecher take up a combined 5.2 million in cap space which means more cap flexibility in other areas in the line up OEL already eats up a little over 7 million. With Myers that 2nd paring takes up 13 mil. Even w/o Myers and let's say Canucks slot in a 3rd paring dman that probably cost 1 to 2 million. That's 8 to 9 million in cap space. And we better hope that 3rd paring dman can thrive with 2nd paring responsibilities
  14. By that argument then ... On the issue of his salary cap unfortunately in a hard cap world everyone is going to be evaluated based on their contract. It's the same reason why most of us here keep bringing up the Leafs and their contracts.
  15. To these two points ... this makes trading for OEL even worse. If OEL was just going to be redundant considering the team already has Hughes why trade for him knowing OEL's contract + age and where he's at in his career. This is an example of Benning not being to manage and build the team properly.
  16. A player whose been in steady decline is suddenly going to improve at 31 next season? I don't know if it really works like that
  17. I am so glad I renounced my Filipino citizenship
  18. They may not be a very good team but they play a system that brought them some recent success. If Bruce walks I would really consider Trotz as the coach
  19. The first point is coaching was the problem but not the biggest problem. If you are to look at the problems overall (not just the bad start) it's clear there was something wrong throughout the organization. Sportsnet 650 recently discussed from issues like lack of strategy, Benning being too hands on, and Judd Brackett walking out of the organization (doesn't help that the Wild basically rebuilt their prospect pool). Coaching isn't the big issue, the problem is that management wasn't honest enough on the issues they needed to address. Thankfully the new management realizes this.
  20. I don't see the point of this. Wouldn't most team not even try then? Let's say if the top 3 spots are centers, why would let's say Bo Horvat even give an effort knowing he's playing so someone can replace him?
