I was 100% for the rebuild but even Aquilini wanted a retool, it didn't mean Benning trading away 1st round prospects and overpaying every Free Agent possible to the point it ruined the organizations cap structure. Losing Toffoli and Tanev in Free agency hurt. But that wasn't the worst of it as it lead to trading away another 1st and 2nd for OEL and Garland. So it's a case of giving up picks die to what the Canucks lost the previous season. Point is these are the kind of moves that Hurt the Canucks now, not so much the question of a rebuild vs retool.

If Canucks aren't making it (which we know they wont) I want Vegas to make the playoffs. The hockey gods will probably make Vegas move the Top 2 draft picks in the lottery if they miss. -
[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane
iinatcc replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah but 1 year at a league minimum it's a low risk move that payed of great for the Oilers this season. Let's not lie to ourselves that it Kane joined the Canucks with that Term and Cap Hit, we wouldn't be happy if it leads to making it in the playoffs. -

Coyotes lose vote for new arena - future unclear
iinatcc replied to mll's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Not to mention the facilities. Sometimes these corporate tickets are used to take partners to an event as what I remember some folks from our Company were taken to watch the San Jose Shark home games. You don't want to take your business partners to a sports game whose Arena is suited more for a minor league team. -

Haha same for me though I was willing to give the kid a chance but there were already warning signs on him the next year that he wasn't really improving after he got drafted. Irony here is that the Juolevi pick would have been negated if Benning didn't trade for Baetrschi the year prior and used the 2nd round pick for Rasmus Andersson. Now I know people will tell me there's no guarantee Benning was going to pick Andersson. But, you have to admit, how unlucky Benning is for the 2nd round pick he gave away panning out better than what we could have imagined. -

Except the reply form above your post But I can see people defending Myers over other players from other teams. We are Canucks homers after all. How long did it take us to realize Juolevi was a bad pick 2, 3, or 4 years lol? -

For 2 million more + 1 another year in the contract? We are not comparing Myers + Larson we are comparing a 6 Million Myers against a 4 Million Larson -

In a hard cap world that's almost impossible. Everyone's value is based on their contribution relative to their salary. This is the problem the previous management team failed to grasp, it's not enough if they are the players you need or are good players but if they properly fit into the cap structure of the team. -

I want Bo to go. Not because I don't want him on the team but Bo Horvat is 27 years old, he deserves to be in a winning organization. He's probably half way through his career and he's only had 2 playoff appearances. By the time this team rebuilds or retools to be competitive he will probably be in his 30's. It's not fair to Bo that the organization has failed him specifically Jim Benning and his management team. -

So Benning trade Gaudette away ... Gaudette scores the GWG shootout goal If Canucks miss the playoffs by one point we know who to blame -

I mean I am not for tanking but I wish this could have been done sooner (the winning I mean). That said if they make the playoffs ... great ( i still don't think they will) but if not I guess 16th overall pick isn't bad I mean Barzal is 16th overall right? -
