  1. I love when like minds sync their thoughts. To summarize the outcome: Give JB. as little credit as possible for for positive results, for example drafting. Assign as much blame as possible to JB for negative results. And your answer is to fire JB. Totally did not surprise me that the OP loved your post. Just another day in the kangaroo court. And did all of the clubs that made changes make the playoffs? Buffalo and Calgary quickly come to mind here.
  2. Or...... they lose 3 more games to Winnipeg and everybody wants out. Oilers won a playoff round in 2017 under Chia. Under Holland they lost in the playin round last year and this year they are 0-1 against the Jets. This, with two of the best hockey players on the planet in your lineup. Will 39 year old Mike Smith will save the day? It’s a little early for the great GM making a difference narrative. Oilers haven’t actually won anything yet. I’m rooting for Holland to do well. He lives in our town and we get to see the Cup if the Oilers win.
  3. I was listening to the Washington broadcast of this game on my drive home. When Wilson got called for embellishment, the announcer freaked out and said it was the worst call that he has ever seen. . You can’t make this stuff up.
  4. Yep. Gotta envy teams that understand how the system works and use it to their full advantage.
  5. Love the way the Panthers are going toe toe toe with TB. Lomburg is a revelation. Huberdeau going hard to the net.
  6. Great game! Also nice to see Minny win in OT against Vegas. Glad to see Cam Talbot get his mojo back after enduring a few seasons in Alberta.
  7. Several years before that the Canucks and Kings were the last two teams in on the Gretzky trade from the Oilers. The Oilers wanted $25 million, Kirk McLean, Greg Adams, and three first rounders. Quinn and Burkie decided it was too expensive and that Gretzky was getting a bit too old to justify the price. Instead they went out and got Igor Larioniv, Vlad Krutov and then Pavel Bure. Two out of three ain’t bad. I’m not mad.
  8. Since the Penguins didn’t tank to get the first overall draft pick in 2005, what is the point of this meme? After the lockout season of 2004 the first overall pick was awarded to Pittsburgh in a specially devised lottery. 4 teams got 3 balls, 10 teams got 2 balls, and 16 teams including our Canucks got 1 ball. Pittsburgh was one of the teams that had 3 balls, so their chances of landing the first overall pick was 6.3%. Seems as thought luck had more to do with Sid landing in Pittsburgh, then anything else.
  9. I’m reading Brian Burke’s book right now and I’m on the part where Pat Quinn was hired to be GM and Burkie was brought in as assistant GM. Those two guys, while learning on the fly, really brought the Canucks out of the wilderness and into contention Those were the days.
  10. What about the other 18 ugly clowns on the Phlegms. They’re going to feel excluded.
  11. But but......70’s music is crap when compared with sanitized modern music complete with samples of 70s music mixed in. The last concert I saw was 21 pilots. One guy drumming his ass off. One guy strumming on a guitar in accompaniment to music videos. I’ll take a 1970s Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Stones, Doors, Deep Purple, Yes, Dire Straits, etc. Concert over that 21 Pilots shizz any day of the week.
  12. Decades might be a bit of a stretch. We had plenty of toughness in 2011, that is before everybody got hurt or suspended. In Tort’s year, did we not set an NHL record of some kind for most back to back to back 5 minute majors in a period against the Sharks? Everytime Canucks try to ramp up the physicality something seems to go horribly wrong. Career ending injuries, suspensions etc. Why can’t we be lucky like the Caps and have a dirtbag like Wilson, a guy who never gets badly hurt, or suspended for long stretches of time?
  13. After those hurtful comments by the Rags, the first pick will go to the NJD this time out.
  14. In Gary Bettman’s NHL, the odds of Canucks getting the first pick, are 1:50,000
  15. I’m looking forward to his first encounter with Ratpuke.
  16. Been playing the kids this year and particularly lately. Lots of new names and faces on the lineup. You can ‘t sell what no one is willing to buy. Bad contracts is the real problem. Nobody wants to pay a guy $3m, when a comparable player can be had for $1m Canucks are playing just well enough to lose without getting blown out.
  17. So what record did he break? Mario scored 100 points in 38 games. For sure 100 points is a milestone. McDavid is a great player and he’s going to score many points in his career, but he still has a lot of unfinished business, such as playoff success. We can all be happy for the guy without getting too carried away .Maybe he’ll be lucky enough to have a shot at the Cup some day. Time will tell.
