  1. And I'm starting to come around to the idea of trying Revere out of lead off (not that it's hurting us). If he could continue to get ON at a .350ish clip and Tulo could get going in the #5 spot then the lineup gets that much better, especially when/if Travis comes back and produces like he was. Considering we have a catcher who is on pace for around 20hr-70rbi, Pillar is chipping in with 30+ 2B and 20 SB, and CC/Smoak are a decent tandem....where is the out? Like....seriously.
  2. Ever. In either league. At least in the modern era. Wouldn't THAT be something?!? Edit: Yes...they were 1st, 2nd and 4th.
  3. I just looked this up... I can't see that it has ever been done including the 1927 or 1931 Yankees. Can anyone else see if they can confirm this?
  4. Here's a little bit of EE number crunching to put his August (so far!) into perspective: Before the game on Aug 1st he was batting .241/.338/.455 with 51 runs, 17 db, 19 HR, 56 RBI in 95 GP .... this would average out to a 162 game season of 90 runs, 29 db, 32 HR, 95 RBI.... a pretty respectable season. In 22 August games (he missed four), in 79 AB, he has hit .392/.455/.772 with 22 runs, 10 db, 10 HR, and 34 RBI. This has pushed his season totals, through 117 GP, to .269/.358/.538 ... a 162 average of 101 runs, 37 db, 40HR, and 125 RBIs..... now... compare that to the 1st stat line.... and he made that change in 22 games only! Yowzer.
  5. Funnily enough, this is maybe the best game Hutch has pitched all year. Didn't need the run support this time and got his ERA under 5.00.
  6. I don't know if I deserve that.... The Jays now have a good opportunity to finish 1-2-3 in RBIs in the AL. No idea when the last time that was done.
  7. By my unofficial count EE has 10 HR and 34 RBIs this month already.
  8. Remember that thing I said about EE not likely to have a month like he did back in 2012? Forget that. He might just take AL player of the month from Donaldson now.
  9. Pretty hard to beat a team that scores a run almost every inning.
  10. Back in the days when natural talent took precedent over fitness it was easier for people to slack off. Phil Esposito once famously said that he got in game shape around Christmas. There is also a growing movement to encourage kids who want to excel in one sport or position to cross train in another sport because it gives them a holistic view of different perspectives in sport and allows them to practice certain skills. For example, if you want to be a goalie you should play first base in baseball to improve your glove hand, to be a OFD you should play QB in football because of watching the play develop in front of you, and if you want to be a OW you should play striker in soccer.
  11. It's true that it is weird how some elite players struggle in their first few postseason attempts compared to others. But, if you're drawing up your playoff roster, you'd still opt for Kershaw over Lemke.
  12. Wow...into the pen. Jays don't score a run but chase the pitcher early anyway. Amazing. That pen didn't look good yesterday.
  13. Goins gets his job at bat now. Take pitches. Get on base. You'll come in.
  14. We shouldn't have a problem with Lewis. He may not walk a bunch but he gives up a lot of gopher balls and against us that is a dangerous game to play. Lewis can be got to. Price should just need to be decent and the bullpen hold it to one or two runs.
  15. I don't think anyone can fairly say the Jays didn't deserve to win that game. They certainly earned the tie. The Rangers earned the loss though.
  16. Completely tied up and 38 games to go. New season now. I like our chances.
  17. And now we have another day off to let the Yankees shoot themselves in the foot again by losing when we are idle. Houston will be a tough matchup for them so they can't afford to sleep on it.
