It's true. Russel Martin could, in four years, become one of the best Jays catchers ever. He has that potential. Especially if they can win. -

Ya, the list goes on. Gruber really was dominant for a very short amount of time but dominant. Shawn Green was an excellent ball player. Barfield, Garcia, Griffin...and shoot...Stewart, Upshall, Moesby, and Wells were pretty good too. Bautista belongs in that mid group. -

I think even if Stroman is rusty he's still one of the top three pitchers in the system. If he gets back early enough he'll help. -

George Bell, Fred McGriff, Jimmy Key, John Olerud, Tom Henke....and, last but not least, Dave Steib. If the jays were a good team in his time he might have 300 wins. -

I'm with Ron on this one... Robbie was just unbelievable. The best player to be a longtime Jay...and there were some other amazing players in there. The Jays have not had a mediocre history. -

Hold onto your hats, boys and girls. With Stroman and Sanchez coming back, and the possibility to add an arm, this team should be playing meaningful games in September. Yes, they need to pitch better but this is a championship calibre offense. -
I'm quite confident that is true, yes.

I go to almost every Giants game and I can guarantee you that Pratt is never there so how the heck can he know when he never watched draft eligible players live?
-
Exactly. Wait and see is the only logical position. Boeser certainly was not off the board for me, though Zhukenov was, but everything was thrown out of whack by the Senyshyn pick. I had him a whole round lower at 45. For me Boeser was near the best pure shooter available in the draft after the top 2, at least right in that class. He's also built like a near pro already and is a physical specimen.

No, there is no consensus...even amongst the NHL teams. That's my point. But that won't stop people from unnecessary despair because it didn't go to their plan. It's CDC after all.

Edit: Sorry....I had him at 15...was going off of memory. Sure... 1) McD 2) Eichel 3) Hanifin 4) Provorov 5) Strome 6) Zacha 7) Marner 8) Werenski 9) Rantanen 10) Crouse 11) Barzal 12) Meier 13) Connor 14) Chabot 15) Boeser 16) Konecny 17) Svechnikov 18) Guryanov 19) Zboril 20) Eriksson Ek 21) Merkley 22) White 23) DeBrusk 24) Roy 25) Harkins 26) Bittner 27) Samsonov 28) Sprong 29) Beauvillier 30) Meloche

It's not even about saying that we had a good draft or a bad draft. It's about realizing that it will take years to know for sure. For us, being able to include Baertschi and Pedan makes it unusual and easier to metric. Granted, I really liked what some teams did more than others because of my evaluations but right now it's just on paper. Some people were practically jumping off of bridges because 'their guy' wasn't picked. It's idiocy.
-
On the days of the draft and immediately after the less knowledgable and chicken littles were complaining about every pick. The simple fact that most of them didn't know who Boeser was or thought he was a poor pick should tell everything we need to know. Personally, I had him at 16th on my list so I was ecstatic with the pick. There is a certain contingent of headhunters on this site who will be constantly calling for firings because they can't undestand why the team doesn't do everything the way they would personally. They're idiots is what I'm saying.

So is CDC willing to accept the possibility that we actually had a pretty good draft yet?

I remember once a team, can't remember which one, was trying to give him an IBB and the pitch was a foot off the plate. He lined it foul right down the 1st base line. The look on the pitcher was, "What the heck do I have to do?" They pitched him REALLY far outside after that. He once hit a breaking ball that I recall was an inch off the ground and in front of the plate. Missed bad pitch. Homer. -

That would sell jerseys! Heck, Vladdy should be in talk for the Hall. He was only a shade of off Roberto Clemente IMO. -
He said he models himself after Vlasic. If he can reach that level then everyone will be happy with the trade. It's a good comparison too so the kid seems self aware.

He's skipping start to rest his arm and keep his pitch count down. That's a good strategy for a pitcher his age. Don't want to wear him out or damage his shoulder. The last thing we need is making the same mistake that happened to Strasburg. -

They've got a little 2002 A's thing going right now.
