  1. Nice comeback win! Imagine how this line-up and bench could look if 100% healthy... SS Reyes 2B Travis RF Bautista 3B Donaldson 1B Encarnacion C Martin DH Colabello LF Saunders CF Pillar Bench: Navarro, Valencia, Smoak, Goins, Carrera, Kawasaki/Tolleson... That provides some pinch hitting ability from both sides, defense, and speed. Now trade Navarro for some pitching help, call up Thole, and sign Soriano. All of a sudden the team could make some noise.
  2. Can't blane the bullpen because the outfielders like Colabello can't catch balls hit in their general direction, or that Reyes can't make routine plays.
  3. Nah.... this game is on the defense, guys. Namely the outfield corners and Reyes.
  4. I wasn't calling them mediocre. I was saying many of the games coming up against mediocre teams are must wins.
  5. Hard to believe, with how uneven the pitching and bottom of the lineup have been, that the Jays are only 2.5 games out of 1st in the East. If they can go on a little run, say 12-6 over the next few series, they could be right up at the top. They need to make up ground vs these mediocre teams. That series vs Houston was a killer.
  6. This has been said dating back to Plato when he remarked that the goats at all the grass on the hillsides leaving them barren and washing into the sea. People often state there are too many people on the planet but instead we should focus on what we do with it. Moving away from animal locomotion was probably our largest faux pas.
  7. I won't lose any sleep if we package up Markstrom with other assets to acquire a young player for our roster or to move up on the draft. It would be nice to give him more time and opportunity but it probably doesn't fit with our timeline, unfortunately. Rather than dealing him for a straight up pick swap, I can see him going with one or more of Higgins, Juice, Jensen, Corrado, or whoever, to ensure we can get a 2nd this year which we likely wouldn't get for any single player alone. I'm sure JB will work his angles.
  8. It's not like they played, "Girl, you'll be a woman soon" while they showed it. THAT would have been gratuitous. In fact, they showed it (but didn't show it) as being a HORROR, which is what teenage marital rape is. This is something which occurs on a wedding day by the thousands daily all over the world. A feminist view should be that this assault was shown to be as every bit disgusting as it really is. It doesn't help to pretend that it isn't a reality.
  9. No guarantee the Comets will have more than one more game themselves. Then the long summer will be upon us.
  10. That's embarrassing. Quoting TOML via HF Boards. Slut.
  11. Virtanen initiates contact more than Patches IMO and gives up quite a bit in height too. I also believe that Virts is a better skater. A closer Pacioretty comparison for this draft was Brendan Perlini.
  12. That's why I say Okposo is a better comparison.
  13. To be fair, you can seem like a caricature of yourself a lot of the time.
  14. Personally, I use Okposo as the bar. If he gets to that level I'll be satisfied. Anything less would be a disappointment and anything more would be a windfall.
  15. Maybe a little but if Martin can bat .270 with power and OBP then it won't be a major difference. He works the count really well too which will help wear out pitchers and give the heart a look at more pitches before they bat. His speed will also come in handy. The major upgrade there is the effect it will have on the pitching staff, especially with the young arms. No more running with impunity like they did on Navarro too.
  16. I can see that. It still does make it easy for the opposing manager though when he goes to his bullpen as he doesn't have to worry about match-ups in the heart of the order. Over a 3-4 game series that can make a difference. The fact that we don't have a viable option to use there off of the bench, because anyone they could bring in would be a major downgrade, weakens the overall look of the line-up. Granted, even having a quality everyday LH bat for Navarro to play 1B/DH (dubious on Smoak) would necessitate moving Encarnacion and Donaldson down a spot each on the line-up, especially as we probably still need more help throwing the ball first. Ideally Saunders comes out flying and we could try him in the middle of the line-up somewhere. I guess the upside is that, over a 5 or 7 game playoff series , that you could wear out the RH out of the pen too.
  17. Martin looked every bit as good as Melky in the 2 spot. He fought off pitches and is not afraid to spray the ball to all fields. His CS on Gregorious was automatic. He'll be a beauty if he stays healthy. I was mostly worried about the hitting from the 6-9 spots in this lineup but Travis changes that quite a bit if he can be consistent. Pillar I'm not too worried about because of his experience but I'm still reserved on Pompey. He's so raw. One thing is for sure though, the OF D will be fine with those three out there. Once Navarro finally gets dealt I wouldn't mind if the Jays gave one of the recent LH OF cuts a shot. When Tyler Colvin was released I took notice of that and there are quite a few other depth outfielders worth trying if we need a body, even after Saunders comes back. Fortunately that's the easiest position to fill. Yes, the top of the order looked pretty good but I'm still concerned about having 4 RH batters in a row from 2-5 with no lefties to use there regularly in sight. I think a lot of it had to do with keeping Buerlhe away from the Yankees as he has always struggled against them for whatever reason. Luckily he's ok vs Baltimore.
  18. Pretty good start. Martin is going to have a major impact on this team.
