^^^ you forgot to lul. Anyone remember the good ole days when entering into the prospects forum wasn't a complete waste of brain cells and time?

I'm not sure why we'd want him back. He showed nothing in NA. I can imagine giving him a TO contract at most.
-
Alleged….From a guy who was bootlegging his name through shirts and stuff. Maybe he did… maybe he didn't.. IDK… but what a man does with the forum he makes for himself says a lot about him. I'll take IT everyday of the week over Pimp C. I guess… it's a tangent but It's late and I have that frame of mind right now. People wan to talk.. I feel free to comment.

Oh, I do. I just dig intelligence first.

Fair enough. It was for selfish reasons and to have him acclimate to the city that i made the suggestion. Until we know whom the new coach is and what player movement they make, I agree. The Giants are a crap show right know with major systemic problems. But I suggested getting rid of Baer and Osipov because they are two players that are not worthwhile building around in any sense.
-
I'd prefer dealt to the Giants for Baer, Osipov and a 2nd round pick.

And a very mediocre rapper too who sang about crap. Died of a drug overdose while on parole for aggravated assault. The man was no Immortal Technique.

I don't think the NHL club will open up a spot specifically for him in the offseason to get the 9 games in. They will plan to not have him there, IMO, and he will only get that possibility contingent on two things… an injury opening up a spot and he having a fantastic camp. And I'm not sure how you expect Virts to play only 9 games with the Canucks and then go to the WJC. You want him sitting in the press box for 25 games? He does have things to work on still… most players do… and he will continue to need to work on certain things for the next few years regardless of what level he is playing on. The tools package is evident and that's why he was picked where he was. Making a quality NHL player is what the Player Development side of the organization focuses on… how to get him to where they want him to be in the best way possible. They will figure that out. To my original point though… I still don't see an open roster spot for Virtanen or Shinkaruk and probably not for Jensen either who is ahead of them in the pecking order going into camp. I believe JB is the kind of GM to take the slower approach than the hurried one. Horvat, due to his specific qualities, was the exception to the rule IMO.

Not responding to this but to your question from the Shinkaruk thread…. Does that mean I think he's in good hands in Calgary? Not necessarily, no, but I also don't think that staying in Calgary under that coaching staff is a poison pill for him either. It may not be ideal but I think it's being overblown here as far as suggestions of mismanagement. My view is that the NHL club is not simply going to gift Virtanen a roster spot with the big club because they have some issues with his deployment in the Dub. To do that they would have to be convinced he is being significantly held back by the coaches there. I'm not convinced of that. To even suggest that he will be on the Canucks for that reason alone belies any other influence that the team brass could try… including asking about their ability to trade him to another Dub team. IMO I don't see the numbers working out for Virtanen without a major overhaul of the NHL roster in the next few months. Could there be a single spot open up? Maybe but I'm dubious it would be for Virtanen. The only way I see that happening is if he blows away the competition in camp and they make a spot for him then, in September. His promotion is far from guaranteed and I still put it in the very unlikely category. Baerstchi will make the team and Jensen will be the first offensive call-up, and the player more likely to be inserted into the NHL club than Virtanen, with Shinkaruk further down the offensive depth chart. The original point I made was that it wasn't between Shionk and Virts for a roster spot…. I don't think either player breaks camp with the team. Possible? Sure. Unlikely? Very. The team will already be young enough at forward without shoehorning in another player who may not be ready. Virtanen could easily see another 18 months of action between the Dub and AHL before he gets a sniff and that's not a slight on the player or a problem for his maturation. In fact, it would be normal and the expected course even for high draft pick, especially one so young compared to his draft peers. Where other viewers may believe that a 6th overall pick should force his way onto a roster relatively immediately or be considered behind the development curve I always expect 3 years from the draft year for players in that range with slight allowances on either side of the timescale. In the bigger picture of the growth of a teenager's physical, mental, emotional, and psychological growth it's a small amount of variation.

Can't believe our idiot GM gave up a 2nd in a deep draft for this soft Euro bust. - RunningWild/desiboy/others (take your pick)

I wasn't even joking, really. It was more a statement about unfair expectations. Absolutely a kid can put it all together…. but it will take a long time before we would know.

1st pairing d-mam here we come!!!

The only player of this UFA crop that even slightly resembles that description is Mike Green. You mean Mike Green? If we are talking about the year after or during the next season then a trade is far more likely the scenario IMO. In 2016 there might be more candidates but, as we know, they tend to get locked up by their former teAm if they are still in their producing prime or are overpriced and on the decline.
-
Complete derpage. Nice way to try and twist it around. My position has always been to be patient with the kid and let it play out rather than put expectations on him before the time is due. Benning hasn't said anything about Virtanen making the team next year or that's what you would be quoting. Instead it is simply that he'll be fun to watch. I'm not the one reading something into the statement that isn't there. I'm leaving it up in the air to be decided later rather than making any assumptions, which is what anyone is doing who says that he'll be on the team next year with impunity despite the lack of a firm commitment from the GM. Anything else is putting words in his mouth. I'm completely supportive of the draft choice and have only ever said, "wait and see." What do you think my comments to you meant?
-
None of which has anything to do with Virtanen's timeline for entry into the NHL. In fact, if you are watching the trends, the acquisition of Baertschi might suggest that the club doesn't see it as likely that Jake makes the team out of camp. The numbers do not work in his favour. My personal opinion is that JB would rather have JV as an available call-up in two seasons while using Jensen in that role next year. I think they will want JV to play another year in junior and at the WJC followed by at least 30-40 games in the AHL. The only likelihood that could change is if we feel we need him. Our current roster doesn't suggest that. There will be gradual change but deciding there is an implicit cryptography in JB's statements is nothing but personal speculation. There have been more statements to the contrary about training camp etc. than any implying he is slated to make the team. Until there is something solid from the GM it's just wishful thinking.

In two to three years.

Wherever he plays.

No, I'm not. Many years of being a sports nerd. It's just basic info I've picked up along the way. If you want to understand it better I suggest researching the Linesman case. It was a watershed decision in the Pro-Amateur sports dynamic.

It's a mutual agreement between organizations, not law (the NFL-NCAA and the NHL-NCAA). Legally they can but it would be breaking a deal that has been put in place to protect college players from being predatorily signed. It's meant to ensure they complete their education. I'm not a big fan of it but if the agreement fell apart it would be contract war. Kids would be dropping out of school, become ineligible for the NCAA and never finish their education. Most of them would never see anything higher than a practice squad because the NFL doesn't have a minors program.
-
That would be considered illegal under Canadian employment law. Adulthood and full citizenship begins at 18 years old whereby a person has the freedom to pursue employment without restriction, assuming it does not involve alcohol. Kenny Lineman challenged the previous law in 1978 that restricted him from signing a pro contract and it was deemed illegal. That's why players like Joe Hicketts can sign a contract at 19 years old with the Red Wings regardless of not being drafted. The NHL could choose to take that approach, that would be their business prerogative, but then the top 18 year olds would be free to sign professional contracts with whomever they chose and the NHL member clubs would not be willing to pass up those claims.

As is Cole Cassels. The guy that will steal his spot next year, if not a new signing. There is a place for having AHL players that will never play for your team but not if you can fill the team with hopefuls. Bancks is a typical AHL depth filler to supply a need. If we need team toughness it can be found with a better package.
-
IMHO that's the future of Bancks. If he even has a role at all. Typical AHL depth that will be pushed out under proper management.
