  1. Conacher was replacing Jeffrey who he was moved for. Baertschi was essentially replacing Kenins.
  2. When was the last time people were talking about a buyout for Burrows? Approx 20g-40p players who play in all situations are worth $4.5 mil in today's market. Especially when they bleed blue and green.
  3. ^^^^ So that means they gave him a practice today? Edit: or is that a stock photo from prospects camp?
  4. Davis has that Pysyk-esque quality… he's a smart defender who makes the right play all of the time. Totally calm and collected. He isn't a dynamic offensive guy but his numbers and production will be much better next year I'd guess. Juulsen reminds me more of a Kichton type. Good junior player and will contribute at the AHL level but there are serious holes in his skill set for me. Kevin Davis OTOH has a game that will translate much easier. Saying that, I wouldn't be surprised that you're correct that Juulsen goes first in the draft…. but there would be other d-men I'd take long before him especially if you are talking the late 2nd-early 3rd as you suggest. Davis would be a good grab later.
  5. If there is a d-man from the Tips I hope we get it's Davis. He's a much better bet to be an NHLer than Juulsen IMHO.
  6. Any questions regarding Sven's ability to play D.... He only needs to be average at the NHL level without the puck if he finds the rest of his game.
  7. Hopefully JV gets sent back to junior next year so we can have another whole 12 months of this thread.
  8. My post wasn't meant with a Burke bashing intent. It was meant to show the utter contrast in approach to two players that were not wildly different. His approach to evaluating both players is a head scratcher to me. It doesn't matter that Treliving was the GM that ultimately made the trade since it was a product of Burkie's approach in the years prior. Kessel is valued extreme highly by him as a 21 year old to the point of mortgaging the future of the franchise to a division rival. Kessel had never played any significant time in the AHL, never played two ways, and was not a physical presence. He was inserted directly into the NHL and produced well in his 3rd season but his overall game was still suspect. He also demanded a high salary at the time. Burke felt this didn't matter as much as he evaluated his offensive upside to be worthy of the gamble. Baertschi is yo-yoed back and forth to the AHL despite producing at a similar level to Kessel in his first two years. He is publicly shamed. There is no leeway given for injuries. He is given little time to adjust on a single roster without being shuffled again. I'd be wary of suggesting it is simply a Euro vs American issue but the approach is inexplicably incongruous to me.
  9. It's amazing to think that Burke could completely ride Baertschi's trade value into the ground but pay two 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel at the same age.
  10. He said he'd be exciting to watch next year. He didn't say where. I took it to mean at training camp. Nothing more.
  11. Yes, that's much more important than him actually playing in a playoff race in the AHL.
  12. For sure, thad. I know we can talk music too. We always seem to have the same tastes there. I'm going to have to leave the couple alone sometimes and have never been up there so I need showing around a bit. If I come in fall then I'd like to catch a Cougars game too. See Harkins et al on home ice and that's a barn I've always wanted to go to.
  13. 'Excess partying' partying in P.G. is probably from a scale I don't quite understand. I have the impression that the weekend is usually pretty excessive for quite a few people. On that note (and yes I know I'm deviating from the Baertschi topic) but my friend's girl just got residency at the hospital up there so i will likely be making a trip this year with him. We should meet up.
  14. Hey man, How was the party up in P.G.? Is the whole town hung over?
  15. More impressive that the shot IMO was his anticipation to sneak down for the passing lane. That's what a combination of skill and hockey sense will do for you.
  16. I've been trying to make the same point, Joe. Everyone is going to have a differing opinion of which older players should/will get moved out but it's not up to us. As fans we become emotionally attached to our favourites and biased toward how we view their play. As objective as we like to believe we are, we are all influenced to some degree or another by sentimentality. This could influence each of us to make decisions not in the best interest of the club despite our intentions. The management very clearly has a road map they are following to get to where they believe we need to be. With this comes constant evaluations of players in their roles, conversations with other GMs, strategic planning with the coaches, the human factor of players and their families...etc. These factors are going to lead them to keep the players they feel can fit on the new team in their assigned role. There are so many variables in this dynamic that we as outsiders are not privy to that we can just take wild stabs in the dark about what will happen with each player. It is clear, to me at least, that some more major changes to this roster are coming over the summer. One or two of who we consider the old guard will be moved out. Youth is being served.
  17. It's quite a bit premature to worry about him being gifted a spot. Lots of hockey to play between now and opening night.
  18. Yup. Give him a mulligan. Go right back in. Lack played almost a full game anyway.
  19. He certainly seems to want to groom him that way. If he starts off in Utica next year it will be interesting to see him slide back to centre ice. It may delay his advancement to the NHL by another year though. But, yeah… JB seems to be saying he likes his skill set on the wing.
  20. Yeah....haven't they win 14 of 15 games or something?
  21. P.A. really wasn't that bad. But take away their star #1 centre....
  22. Do you mean going into a season with RNH, Leon and Arcobello as your top three centres was a mistake? Knock me down with a feather. Oiler domination...yada yada yada
  23. It was a bush league move. Edmonton style. Was it to Leon's benefit? I'm dubious. Nothing about our management leads me to believe they employ the same tactics.
