  1. I'm saying I think there is no chance that the Canucks get involved in that ploy. If he's ready he stays with the big club. If he's not they'll send him back. I think they might ask for him to get moved but they won't hold a gun to Calgary's head.
  2. They can't call him up they can only keep him. And they'll only do that if they feel it's better for him in the NHL rather than on a junior squad they don't like. If it's a bluff and Calgary calls them on it then they'll be forced to keep him for the year. If he's ready they'll keep him anyway. If he's not then they not only have to carry him on the roster but lose a year of his ELC. That's a dangerous game to play.
  3. He sounds like a mix between Mason Raymond and Kyle Parks.
  4. Until 25 years of age human males are basically hairless apes.
  5. I meant mostly in the sense of his injury at the same age and then subsequently rushed to the NHL in his 2nd year after being deaf Ed, what many here propose to do with Virtanen. I feel that many of these same people would also say that Brule was ruined by Columbus to a certain extent.
  6. Question for those that think it's likely Virtanen secured a spot next camp... How would you compare that career projection up until then with that of Gilbert Brule? Similarities? Differences?
  7. Which is even funnier because SOB is with the Rampage.
  8. Anyone suggesting Virtanen will make the team out of camp next year need to temper their expectations a lot, IMO. He's still another 2-3 years away from getting a sniff. He should certainly play out his major junior time and develop a more mature game.
  9. Rumours are starting heat up around the web that they Jays are making a major push to add a FA pitcher with their recent $$$ savings on these deals. Not sure who though....maybe Shields?!? Miller?!? I would guess I that Navarro gets dealt for a reliever, either a closer or setup man, at some point and the Jays add a starter. Estrada and Sanchez will battle for the starter/setup man role.
  10. So, just throwing this out there... 1. SS Reyes SH 2. CF Carrera/Pompey LH/SH 3. RF Bautista RH 4. 1B Encarnacion RH 5. LF Saunders LH 6. 3B Donaldson RH 7. DH Smoak SH 8. C Martin RH 9. 2B Izturus SH Regardless of how that lineup gets put together...that's got lots of promise. 1. Dickey 2. Stro 3. Hutch 4. Buerlhe 5. Sanchez I'm loving all of my these moves. If Estrada can be a good swing man then I think the team is just a reliever away.
  11. I don't know....I think Vatanen is living up to the hype.
  12. As long as fans can wrap their heads around the idea that some prospects are developed to the point where their trade value is increased to be able to upgrade your roster with proven vets. Likely, not all of our current prospects who make the NHL will make it with us. If we're close and we can take a run then I want the GM to ice the best team he can with his available assets rather than stagnating certain players because we don't have room for 4 rookies at a time.
  13. Ummmm….. joke? Edit: Oh…. Hodgson. Thought you meant Linden….like WTF?
  14. I love the little sound bite in that video you can hear in the background... "You should probably get an apartment or something."
  15. I wrote this some time ago in our CDCGML thread…. and did it as a 4chan green text style for fun. >be my father's father >be born in 1896 in Newcastle, Northumberland, England >be 17 when WWI starts >get parents to sign letter so he can enlist in the Durham Light Infantry underage >be home by Christmas, he thinks >be at all of the worst battles including Ypres, Passchendaele, Loos, Cambrai and the Somme >survive the Somme where 1,000,000 soldiers die including 30,000+ on the first day alone >finish WWI after 5 promotions (because the lucky bastard is one of the only originals from the start of the war left alive) as a Quartermaster Sargaent >he is 21 >after the war Winston Churchill says "I don't know if the DLI is the best fighting force in Britain but I know of none better" >goes to college and obtains math degree >becomes a professional footballer because, frack, "why not?" Living on borrowed time. >quits football to open his own boy's school as Headmaster, school still exists today >gets married, has my uncle in 1937 >1939 WWII starts, stupid idiot re-enlists. he is 43 years old >refuses officer's commission because he wants to go to the front, retains rank of QMS >feels deep seeded responsibility to protect the kids or impart his knowledge of war or some hero crap >bad idea, is evacuated in a fishing boat from Dunkirk >military command promotes him to Quarter Master Sargaent Instructor because of his experience as a teacher >spends the rest of the war training and sending some of the boys from his school off to die >he is apparently deeply affected by this realization >has my father in 1944, he is now 47 years old >WWII ends, he goes back to being Headmaster of his school >for kicks becomes a famous Square Dance caller on BBC radio >spends the rest of his life on reconciliation with boy's clubs in both Britain and Germany >arranges for boys to visit each other's countries so they can see the devastation on both sides and learn that it was no good for anyone >has seen too much war and never wants it to happen again >dies of heart attack in 1953, heavy drinker, smoker, emotionality stunted, he was 57 >my grandfather survived fighting in two world wars, probably an inch from death multiple times, gets taken out by a bottle of whiskey >my grandfather would be 117 years old if he were still alive >I exist because of his dumb luck >is one of the people in all of history I would like to be able to meet
  16. While I don't disagree with your statement… it lacks historical context. Statism, whether it be to a nation or city, is the natural environment of human civilization for the last 10,000 years. I'm all for change…. we are ALL equal, after all… but I'm also for suggested paths to end the fact. Dissolving the borders overnight isn't a viable option. Myself, I go to the cenotaph every year to lay me respects and this year will be no different, because I have two close family members that we're KIA and my grandfather was a vet of both WWI and WWII (he's an interesting story and I'd be happy to share). I'm only here today from the luck of inches. While I am the last person to defend war, I both respect and honour the uncountable that have died in human history. The vast majority of their reasons were for love of family and friend. If they were mislead then they, in addition to the rest of society, were victims too and ultimately so. They are us and we are them. To not honour them is to not honour ourselves. If that's the case then we miss the best of us. If you agree at all then maybe you should honour the dead too.
  17. PS.....the ice was complete crap for the last game. I think the zamboni driver was drunk.
  18. Gaunce will be an everyday NHL player. Anyone who can't see that should question their understanding of the game.
  19. They could still give him a short trial at that time if an injury hits and then feel he is in game shape. They won't. But they could.
  20. Just as likely he gets 4 points in 3 games and is dubbed our next 100 point scorer. CDC and this fanbase in general are not prone to allowing a normal progression. Honestly, even with a full 82 game season his over/under should be around 25-30 points.
  21. I'd be willing to bet that Horvat makes the team out of camp as an injury replacement, as JR said. That's my expectation, anyway. From there we'll see how he does.
