That's not what I was saying nor was it a slag on Torts. Dealing Kesler is significant but I've seen lesser rosters outperform greater rosters because of coaching and lockerroom cohesiveness. That was my point. Everything was not great until January. Never was the PP good. If it have ever been good for a month or two we would gave bare the playoffs. Building by intentionally being bad will not be in our plan. I'm not sorry you'll he disappointed. You are laughing at my choice of draft pick? Ok.

The team isn't that bad on paper. Can it translate? I'd say that depends almost entirely on the coach.
-
Because he changed his mind? And I question that... his team was stated as Nylander's. I think there was a last minute change there for politics.

I don't disagree. I don't like the viewpoint that many people come from but it's the internet. What are you going to do? My biggest issue is the need to talk down one prospect to hype another. I view them all as good prospects or I wouldn't rate them. I'm not married to any certain player. I have my personal preferences. I've made them clear. I don't have to knock a guy like Virtanen because he isn't MY pick.

Not if you understand what he's saying. Don't underestimate his work. He goes to more games than the lists you see provided by everyone else. He isn't high on Virtanen. He doesn't think his game will translate. His list isn't where he thinks they'll go, it's where he thinks he'll be ranked 5 years from now.

I think it was a good post, Ossi. Something worth noting and discussing. I don't think it's definitive. I don't think it should stifle conversation or overrule personal opinion. I only use what I see, and I watch a lot of hockey both online and in person, and I only use my own judgement. The only thing I use other scouting reports for is to note an attribute I may not have paid enough attention to for next time I see them myself. With regards to Virtanen specifically, I've seen him a lot over the last two years and I think I have a good handle on him. He does many things well. He us not a complete player. He is advancing. He has been one of the best 2014 draft prospects for the last two seasons. IMHO he should be far from a consensus #6 because of the quality of the team and the way he was utilized by the coach. He's a very opportunistic scorer. Not enough of his goals come when it counts for my liking. My ultimate assessment is that he is a power winger with great speed and an excellent shot who can push through checks against strong defenders. How many teams want a guy like that? Everyone, basically. Does that make him a favourite at 6th? Still too many questions in my mind to make that leap. Maybe. Maybe.

All too well.

With regards to?

Uh huh.

I think the years will show this to be a poorly formed snap judgement.

I think I'd take that bet.

I'm really not sure what Torts could pen in his Plus column for what he was able to accomplish this year. If he couldn't make a valid argument that he laid some sort of foundation for next season then this was a straight out loss. If his answer is that this is the best he can get out of this team without a massive roster overhaul I'd fire him myself. In his exit interview I'd want to hear a plan. If he blamed the complete season on injuries or his own ability to adapt I'd fire him. I'd quiz him about his opponents. If he couldn't give me detailed information about how to beat their systems and rosters I'd fire him. The onus is completely on Torts to justify his own employment to his superiors IMHO. Sullivan should absolutely be fired regardless. As his boss I'd tell Torts he needs different help.

Isles would be at 298.

Chinese-only sign reignites language debate in Richmond, B.C.
theminister replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
Seriously, I could not care any less. I've gotten up to being able to read over 100 Chinese characters and I hope to have that increase every year of my life. I will teach my kids to understand the basics as well as making sure they have an education in Latin. The world changes, and ever more quickly, and I have no issue with needing to change with it. We all will. I've been an immigrant to a country I didn't speak the language of and that opened my eyes to a lot of the different factors involved in such a move. Adaptations can take many decades or even generations. It's not easy. My parents were immigrants from an English speaking country and I know how hard they had to work to make roots in Canada, and I can only imagine how much harder it is from such different cultures. Any issue I have is not with language signs, it's with the immigration policy of Canada that doesn't take cultural diversity of the quotas seriously enough. -
Frankly, I'd be ok if Torts was demoted to Assistant coach because I do believe he is a decent motivator and is very good with certain players. He should not be making any systems or strategic decisions. Hire a guy like John Stevens for head coach and keep Gulutzan around for support. Jettison Sullivan asap. If Torts can't handle being put on the 4th line then he'd be a bit of a hypocrite.
