  2. You don't know who I am or what I do with my time. I attacked you?!? Uh-huh. I didn't tell you to do anything but not tell CDC to defer and stifle their conversation because you posted a link to a statistically inaccurate scouting bureau.
  3. Virtanen has other skills too. His shot is good and his speed is a plus. His physicality allows him to use these skills better. I think his offensive anticipation is also a cut above. What team doesn't want another good skating, goal scoring forward that drives to the net? Everyone does, right? But Virtanen is somewhere between Oshie and Okposo for me. He isn't a physically dominant NHLer but is built like a tank. Also not a top end scorer. I don't see him as 1st line star. He'll be a very good supporting player.
  4. Personally I think Nylander is the better long term pick but I fully expect the Canucks to take Ritchie if he is there. And I can fully understand why. He'd be too hard to pass up on. I'd be very happy with Ritchie, my personal opinion aside.
  5. That's fair if you talk about the average player but Ritchie is not the average player. Even if he was 30lbs lighter he'd be in the top 10 conversation. It's a far bigger risk that little guys will be able to translate their game than bigger guys. All skills being equal though, take the bigger guy, especially if he has the mean streak. When I hear your argument all I get is that you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Might as well be damned for being bigger and skilled instead of smaller and skilled.
  6. I didn't say I could/would but we don't have to defer to CS/ISS to form our opinions. In fact I think their ranking this year are not very good and will not be overly accurate. Why the comment to 'stop the nonsense' at look at the rankings though? The forum is here for everyone here to discuss what ever we want. PS. I watch a lot of hockey, more than you state. I can make up my own mind.
  7. Let's see a statistical comparison of how accurate ISS/CS has been over the last 10 years. Here's a hint: Not Very.
  8. That really has really look to it. What is the other top 6 line of the future? Shinkaruk-______-Jensen??? Might be better to split up the power game a bit.
  9. Physical maturity, commitment to defense and becoming a locker room leader. Lots to gain for Reinhart to go back to junior.
  10. I don't think Reinhart will make the NHL next year regardless of who takes him. He needs another year. Ekblad could. Shouldn't but could.
  11. If they reach their top end potential? Everyday I take Ritchie. That means he is one of the most dominating physical and scoring forwards in the NHL for the next 15 years. After that he'd be going to the HHOF alongside Messier, Clarke and Neely. Is that likely to happen? No but any draft pick reaching their potential is low. A major factor is that Ritchie will approach his ceiling more quickly and is more certain to not stay at his floor than Ehlers.
  12. Wait a minute… you're turning the positive into a negative. He doesn't rely on his size to score but he does use sometimes so that's bad? If he didn't use it everyone would be saying he should. His shot and hands are already NHL quality. Name the last PWF drafted that could say that at the time?
  13. If you are only thinking one or two years ahead then you are missing the point of drafting. Unlikely that anyone make the team from this draft. Ehlers won't make the Canucks so it shouldn't matter if Ritchie does either. Ritchie is not a project or slow to develop. He isn't a project… he's a fully formed PWF. Kassian and Ritchie play very different games.
  14. No, I wouldn't use that comparison. He's got the skill to be talked about in that sense but his physical game has a much greater edge to it. JVR really was a bean pole when drafted and was a bit of a shock at his draft spot. He was then viewed as a tall, skinny kid with good hands and vision that could develop a physical game. With Ritchie, the discussion isn't really about him needing to develop anything other than learning to do the same things every night. I think each of his skills are already existent but they all have room for even more growth, which is amazing.
  15. I thought you preferred Perlini?
  16. If Ritchie is at 6 I can't imagine us passing on him. Most of the comparisons on this board for him are incorrect and from people who have obviously never seen him play. To dispel a few myths: - He is not slow. He is not a good skater for his size. He is a strong and quick skater who is not late to the ice he needs. - He is not relying on his size to score. He has skill that stands alone. His shot is NHL quality, his reads are great, excellent hands, and he he has a nose for the net - He isn't lazy. He's inconsistent but most players are. He does not have any off ice issues that have been published. - He isn't a project. He's not far off now. - He isn't like Kassian. He isn't like Lucic. He isn't like Hartnell. He's closer to Shanahan. A real classical throwback PWF.
  17. You know…. I am not so sure that true. Look at the list again…. it states that Virtanen's team is Modo…. Nylander's team. Methinks there was some funny decision making there. Looks like an oversight.
  18. If you guys want to have a better ideas so you have more information this time next year…. Make sure you watch as much of the Ivan Hlinka tournament as possible this year, starting Aug 5th. If you see a player popping out there then that's a good sign that the skill is a top tier. Especially watch the Canada games…. because if a play/skill/drive of an opponent stacks up against the Canadian team, then that's legit.
  19. I think Kes is actually the least popular personality amongst the 'core.' They've known him for a long time and he's a friend, a teammate, so they're tight. I don't think he's loved in the same way Burrows and Bieksa are. He's probably matured the least as an off ice leader in the bunch.
  20. You know, 6% doesn't sound good but a 1 in 16 chance really isn't a stretch.
  21. Almost no one. Everyone has a question mark. Reinhart has the ability but he needs to get stronger. Ekblad can physically. He's better off refining the defensive side of the game and learning to expand his offence as a star in the league. Draistaitl has the physical and skills package to translate right away but he's till raw defensively. Ritchie has the body and shot but needs more consistency. Bennett probably has the most complete game of the bunch. Ultimately, this year, almost all of these guys should be a year away and spend a year dominating junior. There is little benefit to rush a player into the NHL. It's being done too often IMHO. You should only leave junior/Europe when you have nothing left to learn, or have graduated in age, and there isn't a player that solidly fits that description this year.
  22. Well… the WJC and the Hlinka tournament are good yardsticks. If they can compete there against their peers then you can see them translate their game. That's a huge factor for me. Often the U-17s is the best gauge of what a player can do a year before they are eligible.
  23. I honestly don't think we will. If the expected top 5 go as assumed (Reinahrt, Ekblad, Bennett, Dal Colle, Draisaitl) then I'm quite confident we will take Ritchie or Nylander. If we want the offensive dynamo we take Nylander. If we want the dominant power player we take Ritchie. I'm just not sure how Ritchie can be passed over at 6th. I am strongly of the opinion that he's a VERY unique package. There isn't even a great comparable playing in the game today. If I had to guess, Ritchie will be a Canuck.
  24. Me.... I guess. That's at least one. I've watched him at both the WJC, Hlinka and the U-18s more than a few times. I can't be the only one.
