  1. This one slipped past me. Sorry, winterhawks. LTIR: The Ottawa Senators place F Joe Vitale on the LTIR retroactive to April 9, 2014.
  2. Congrats to Tuukka and Patrice!!!
  3. Far from it! It just shows how much an avatar affects our expectations. Didn't you say you thought I'd look like Dick Cheney?
  4. I have looked into this option a couple of times. Definitely doable. It's mostly about picking price point, date and attendance well in advance. But I agree, I'd like that. I'd make my place available as a mini hostel for a weekend.
  5. Think of it as the 12 step program. We've got the end of the season, draft lottery and few other dominoes to fall before we get to that stage. It'll happen soon enough. I'd expect before that June deadline. I think Benning would leave while the team is still playing or, at least, have conducted interviews.
  6. I'd agree. That's a pretty strong indication that he's leaning toward Benning. I'm racking my brain to think if there could be another candidate that matches all of that criteria.
  7. This is the most accurate description of Ritchie in this thread. Is obvious you are one of the few who has actually watched him play.
  8. No but I expected your then fiancée to be Kristen Bell. I did a double take because I thought you were cheating.
  9. Our history with drafting Russian players since Bure hasn't been great though. Koltsov, Grot, Fedorov, Kablukov, and even Shirokov didn't pan out. Chubarov, who I liked, also burned us. If you mean that we should hire a good Russian scout then I'd agree but until we have confidence there then it'll be too big if a gamble unless a player falls into our lap. But traditionally we haven't done well from Russia in the last 15 years even when we did take chances.
  10. I think I forgot to mention that Primal was almost exactly as I pictured him. I think he could put a nail through a wall without a hammer. That was the first time that has happened because I've been wrong about everyone else so far.
  11. Those clauses were eliminated in the CBA. You can no longer trade a coach or Exec for compensation.
  12. It's not tampering to express interest in the front office personnel. That rule only applies to players. I don't believe that Boston's, or any other teams', playoff position will impact any the interview process. Retaining Gilman as AGM would almost be paramount for continuity's sake. If he left Smyl would be the only major link and that might be too much change too quickly. Benning, McNab, and Joe Will (SJ AGM) would all be good choices IMHO. 2nd tier would be Hextall, Dudley, Brisbois, Gilman. John Stevens and Mike Johnston to replace Torts and Sullivan, with Patty Quinn coming in as a Senior Advisor, and suddenly there is hope for the immediate future.
  13. Except I'm not speaking for anyone else. That is where you are wrong.
  14. No, I'm sorry. It is not. You can form your own opinions from your available information and experience but don't feel obliged to speak for everyone, please. It's not for you to state what people do and do not realize. I've seen him play dozens of games, some live, and I form my opinion from that experience and from watching decades of junior players. We've already ascertained that you've never seen him play yet you continue to parrot other people's incorrect report that he needs to work on his foot speed. His skating is not a deficiency. In my assessment, he is pretty close to being able to play amongst men. I'm not predicting he makes the jump but I'm also not ruling it out. He's that close. And that's my opinion from watching him and knowing full well the difference between the OHL, AHL and NHL. Speak for yourself, not for other people.
  15. I like this post. And, no, we aren't hiring Jay Feaster. I'm sure Linden is smarter than that. (Actually he inferred he is most interested in a man/men already working for a playoff team.)
  16. Frankly, I just know we are going to wind up with a good prospect. I'm not too worried about which one.
  17. It's called discretion. It's the better part of valour. Nobody in the media should criticize that. They are hardly in a place to cast stones. If the media was trustworthy he might have been able to get them to accept a non-answer without publishing the story. Unfortunately, misdirection is required when multimillion dollar business are in the public eye. It's common sense, really.
  18. I am a lot less sure of that than you are. Ready for a top 6 role? Probably not. Ready to play against men? Probably. Ready to apprentice as a 4th liner? Maybe. It's always best to be more patient than not but I think you severely underrate this player.
  19. Not by the letter of the contract. The only distinction is that it wasn't that GM that made the promise.
  20. But he's a Canuck again and that's what will matter. He might not be on the ice but he's a huge part of the team and the 'process.' Plus…. he's getting paid to.
  21. If you were ever wondering how passionate Linden has been for the Canucks since leaving... I have it on good authority that he couldn't even watch the Canuck playoff games on TV. He'd have them on so he could hear it but he couldn't watch. The inference was that it was torture for him. His fires still burn deep and they never went out in his absence.
  22. I thought it might too until I heard the man speak today and heard that he was being given complete autonomy on the hockey side of things. His desire and passion shone through today too. He wants this challenge and is ready for it. He won't be a shrinking violet. I have no qualms at all anymore.
