  1. I think it would be fair to wonder if MJ would be willing to leave the 'Hawks if it wasn't for a head coaching gig. If there was going to be a greater youth movement then I'd be more confident in handing him the reins. As it is, I think convincing him to come aboard as an AC would be better for the current team. He would still have some clout in the room and has been known as a player's coach. He is a soft spoken type that earns the respect he is given. I'm pretty sure the Sedin's would be onboard. He might even be convinced that it would be a prelude to a head coaching gig. It depends how much he wants back in the NHL. Some guys might think they are better suited to a different level of hockey.
  2. I think there is also the subtle, underlying message that the paying customer, specifically the STH base that is being asked to re-up right now, is not happy to cough up the money to see that type of product. I think this also is a message to the ownership. Sales and product will lose appeal if there is little entertainment value in this city.
  3. Very well. That was under a Crawford tenure. Different style. He's had 5 great years with Portland since then. What was it you are referring to specifically?
  4. I think he's a smart man but also volatile. If Torts is being moved out then bringing in another potential 'yeller.' He wouldn't be a terrible choice as an assistant, especially a special teams coach. I'd prefer Johnston previous experience here though.
  5. Stevens was my choice last year. If Torts is gone then I'd be happy with JS. Gully should be retained if possible. Mike Sullivan is useless. If the ownership decides to blow the whole thing wide open then I'd be very interested in seeing if the Portland Winterhawks Mike Johnston would be available. I even think he'd be an excellent option as an assistant coach. John Stevens Mike Johnston Glen Gulutzan That's a good, strategic staff that would understand the conference, have good experience to draw upon, and have the right temperament for our dressing room.
  6. Actually, your ilk is the only one playing the blame game. Most posters understand it is a complex situation that involves many different considerations. There is no one single reason for the slip. Anyone pretending to lay all of the blame on one party or cause are being simplistic.
  7. You claim to have met FA and base your conclusion thusly. Why then do you doubt that my statement is based on any less fact? Mine was not a comment on MG. Don't confuse the two.
  8. Would you also know that he cowers like a schoolboy in front of his father? FA would never question Luigi's authority. Papa rules his familial corporatocracy with a iron fist.
  9. Btw, I think a common misconception here is that FA is pulling the strings and meddling. If it's anyone, it's Luigi.
  10. Sure there is. That's the one you tell your wife you're going to have before you head home. Just that one.
  11. I'd comment on your discussion but I think anyone with half an attention span will already know what side I come in on. If there are really CDC battle lines being drawn, count me in.
  12. Demotion: The New York Islanders demote F Tanner Pearson to Flin Flon. Recall: The New York Islanders recall D Rasmus Ristolainen from Flin Flon. Matt Halischuk returns to his position as the club's 13th forward.
  13. I can only speak for myself in this regard... I grew up with my father as a Leafs fan. I am well practised at defending the Canucks from ridicule and derision from the Leaf perspective, and I have always taken joy from their failures because of it. I have been doing it for so long that I know no other way. However, I am a hockey fan first and foremost. I will always give the players and management credit when they are doing well. I went to university in Ontario and have many, many Leaf fans as close friends. I don't judge them differently on this matter. We talk hockey, they throw their barbs, I throw mine, and we can sit down and enjoy a back-to-back HNIC. I don't take pleasure in their misery when their team fails but I don't sugar-coat it either like many Leaf fans are used to being done on their behalf by the Canadian media. They are partly responsible for creating a 'bubble' around the team that is not healthy and creates a non-wholisitic understanding. You may not recognize how different this makes your understanding of your team compared to the vast majority in Ontario. With regards to Maple Leaf coverage in the media, it is disgusting and always has been, I'm old enough to remember when the eastern media would never even acknowledge that Vancouver had a team. Before Bure, the NHL ended at the Rockies. It's slightly better now but it's still a problem. The ignorance of the West, including the WHL, is palpable. Demographics only explain a portion of that. On CDC I think I am always fair….ish. I'm not a Leaf supporter, and couldn't be before the ECF at the earliest but I'm happy to have Leaf fans here. I also think it is fair to remind them occasionally whose house they are in though. PS… The Dark Ages for the Leafs? I'm not sure what you mean by that. That's been going on since Howard Ballard, the man synonymous with that concept, and I think you were lucky enough to not have experienced that.
  14. Be careful what you wish for….
  15. 61 points tonight by my count. Trying to scrape back into the playoff race. 150 points to make up but I'm not totally out of it yet.
  16. Really? You only move Kadri for a another centre, brink back Komorov, and let your best defensive forward in Bolland walk? What about your D? Shouldn't the focus start there? Aren't you 2 d-men short? Swapping out a couple of forwards is not going to solve your problem with puck possession, shot differential or transition. Reimer and Gardiner in a package might get you one D but, as RFAs, they don't have huge value.
  17. This is the Leafs offseason: JVR (4.25) - Bozak (4.20) - Kessel (8.00) Clarkson (5.25) - Kadri (2.90) - Lupul (5.25) _____________-___________-___________ _____________-___________-___________ Orr (0.925) - _____________ Gunnarson (3.15) - Phaneuf (7.00) Gleason (4.00) - Reilly (1.744) _____________-_______________ _____________ Bernier (2.90) - ______________ Cap Hit: $49.569 million for 12 roster players. - With a $71.1 mil Cap = $21.531 mil in cap space - With a $69 mil Cap = $19.431 Mil in cap space RFA: Gardiner, Franson, Reimer UFA: Bolland, Kulemin, McClement, Raymond, Bodie, Ranger Prospects: McKegg, Percy, Leivo, Carrick, Broll, Ashton, Biggs
  18. What is the Leafs best offseason scenario? Move Kadri for a top 4 D? Who steps in for him on the 2nd line then? If Bolland is re-signed then it diminishes the opportunity to use cap space on other parts of the roster. There doesn't seem a likelihood that anyone from the Marlies can step in and be a large impact for them next season. I thnk McKegg can play and Percy might get a look but neither will change the look of the roster much. There is very little cap space to get the help they need on D just through UFA. Reilly needs to be brought along correctly and Gardiner doesn't have a proper partner. Franson won't wield much in trade. I'm not seeing exactly what they should do to correct this ship. It's a mess. I'd be interested in what Leaf fans think they should do? Lupul? Caboose?
  19. These are the names I've put faces to. PO was at the game tonight. Come to a game.
  20. I wonder who TSN is going to decide, in their high quality analysis, will need a larger overhaul in the offseason? The Canucks or Leafs? The Leafs don't look like they have brighter days ahead. Other than a coaching change or major trades, I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel for them.
  21. Of course, VCR Guy is actually a Canuck's fan, right? Nope, not a Leaf fan at all. Nope.
  22. canuck2xtreme da.moose lethunder greensman Ty Webb Squeak And now... Primal Optimist Who's next?
  23. LTIR: The Phoenix Coyotes place F Jonathan Huberdeau on the LTIR.
  24. Ummm.... yeah. I'm pretty familiar with the building. The Sportsnet booth is above section 314/315. Your seats will be in the middle of the row in the corner. You can still order a Salo jersey if you want but it won't be in stock.
