ouch..JB on the radio saying Brock may be out for the year. This was a trade to replace BB..... EDIT: JB saying that he wanted to send a clear message to the team that they want to compete to make the playoffs even with BB getting injured. EDIT2: JB saying that he felt that the prospect pool was deep enough at forward to be able to afford giving up madden.

Dont get me wrong, i am glad they are doing what they can to take a leap into the playoffs, Im j questioning the use of the assets considering that the return is a UFA. I get it that Madden may have not worked out here, but he is a highly touted prospect - one of the best players in the NCAA...in my mind im thinking could they have used that prospect (in combo with the pick) to get a young rugged winger under contract or to have bolstered the D (holes on this team that are just as big ) Toffoli is a fantastic player - a real play driver and legit top 6. I just hope this doesnt come back to bite us in very short order.

There is a lot of risk here. There are several scenarios where they lose this trade - one of them is no playoffs and Toffoli walks. The trade looks fair if they make it in and Toffoli ends up signing here. The question I have is if BB doesnt go down for a significant period of time (as it looks like he will) do they make this trade? With a healthy top 6 they could have used those assets to shore up the bottom pair on D or to add some much needed toughness.

Not saying he isn’t a core player. He provides other elements the team needs I’m thinking toffoli was brought here because Brock may be out for a long time. They are saying three weeks till he is re evaluated let alone play again. If Jake was the scoring answer for the top 6 in bbs absence, I doubt they would have gone after toffoli with other bigger holes to fill like the lack of toughness and a suspect bottom pairing D. This move gives us insight into many things ... 1) they don’t trust Jake to fill that scoring need yet 2) I bet Brock is out for a while 3) they are likely gonna make more moves now that they are all in. just the way I see it.

Jake is way too inconsistent to remain a staple on the top 6. Brock was prob playing hurt and he was still putting up better numbers on the top line. i think if Management thought Jake was an adequate replacement for brock they would have spent the assets on upgrading the d or toughness first. Jake is best suited on the third line with Gaud... for now...

Taken from our prospects section. see quote below. One of our lesser talked about picks is lighting it up. Same build, same position as Madden. when you draft well you got a bunch of guys you can use as currency. that said I still think this is a move to fill Top 6 in Brocks absence . It’s a dog fight for the playoffs and JB is doing what he can to get us there( agree with it it not) Arvid Costmar has been on fire in the SuperElit league. Since our last update, he has played in two games and scored three goals and two assists in that time. He is now up to twenty-one goals and twenty assists in twenty-four games with Linkoping HC J20 and has eleven more points than the second leading scorer on his team despite player 12 fewer games. His 1.71 points per game is tied for the best point-per-game rate in the SuperElit."

2 points are two points no matter who steals the show! -
To avoid fine, next time he should wait 3 seconds after he releases the puck, waits till he is vulnerable and unsuspecting.... then he should drill him into the boards as hard as he can...

Pittsburgh has been trading prospects and picks to keep their win now train going for a while now. I am very interested to see how they handle the team when Malkin/Crosby get to an age where they dont look like elite players that can carry the team through multiple rounds. With all of the assets PIttsburgh has spent to bolster their core, and keep the cup train running, it could be disastrous for them for the decade following Crosby/Malkin's decline. WIll they unload those guys for a haul while they still have value? Will they just tank and accumulate high picks (they did tank and get guys like Mario, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin) etc
