[Proposal] Brock Boeser for Timo Meier?
Darius replied to CaptainLinden16's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Thats your personal assessment. Funny reading armchair comments about pro level players will and desire though. And on a side note it really is impossible that the dire condition of his father has affected his play on the ice... Carry on with the trade proposals. Cant wait to see what happens if/when QH goes into a 3 week slump or something....we can get good value for him too i bet.... -

so you just give up on him? practically every star in this organizations history have gone through inconsistencies at similar ages. Do you remember what the Sedins and Kesler were like? Not everyone is EP or QH.where they look like stars every game ..those guys are rare... Look at JV, he looked lost up until about late November. -

He is 22 years old. Players develop. JT was horribly inconsistent at his age, look at him now. There is also the personal aspect to all of this that some seem to be ignoring. These players are not robots, they go through rough patches on and off the ice. Its unfair to reduce everything into numbers and cold hard spreadsheets. He has done nothing but produce for us since the day he stepped on the ice, he seems a little off now and the trade scenarios come out. Talk about cutting the throat. Look at Horvat at 22 years old. Recall the dry spells Recall the horrible plus minus and the schoolings from the other teams when big brother Sutter wasnt around. Should we have traded him too? Not saying that you dont trade him if something spectacular isnt offered but this knee jerk reaction stuff is quite concerning. -

theres no one else to pick on it seems. Green has gone from dog house to Jack Adams contender. Jake has gone from 25 points to top tier forward. Loui is contributing. Even Juolevi on the farm is rocketing up the trajectory charts. that leaves out the guy on a 5 game pointless streak. You know the guy that was a calder candidate and has put up more points at his age than almost every other winger this team has drafted in its 50 year history. Hes got no chemistry now. One one hand this is awesome, on the other hand I want to cry.... -

this is my last response here, gonna leave it at this coz at the end of the day I want Jake and BB both on this team contributing to their best ability. We need both those guys going to keep climbing the standings. Miller and EP - you are right. Thats the dynamic duo thats stirring the pot. But before you write of BB as trade bait consider this: Miller was far more inconsistent and far more frustrating to deal with at BB's age. I think what we have seen from BB is a baseline. He will improve. Id rather work on developing our own young D men than spend a king's ransom trying to trade for that unicorn top tier rw d. -

ok i re-read your post, my apologies. jakes speed is awesome for that top line. Whats holding me back is im not convinced the kid can read plays that EP can dish out dynamically and on the fly. Its not the foot speed im worried about. -

Hey I fully admit i may be out to lunch here because I do appreciate some of you other observations but right now I see that top line winger position as BB. Jake could be a very good second line player or a wicked 3rd line defensive guy that can burn you but I dont see the top tier processing power required to play with EP. just my take and i could be fully wrong. -

he doesnt have the speed to play on that top line? Is that why that line has been rocking most of the year and the kid was on nearly a ppg pace? You have to show that Jake improves that line. He has played fine, and im happy for that, but 5 games (mostly on a home stand) is way too short of a sample size. I think if you offered up Brock or Jake from this roster to every team in the league and told them you can only pick one the vast majority of GMs would take Brock hands down. Just my opinion...Jake has a ways to go before he takes over.... -

no he hasnt. he has gone through a major learning curve...a few years back he had an attrocious plus minus and was getting schooled when Sutter wasnt around. -

nope, just saying that being an average skater cant be used as a barometer of success... -

you mean how like the sedins couldnt skate....or even a guy like tkachuk in calgary cant skate....probably wont improve... -

yeah we should have traded horvat when he was 22 and went through major dry spells. im sure you would have traded kesler and the Sedins at 22 also for their inconsistencies....come on man... -

22 years old Defence can be taught. Offence is a gift. Some of you guys are talking like the kid is 30 and wont improve. -

sure...you mean he had a problem scoring? 22 years old on a 30 goal pace....sounds bad eh? -

disagree. boeser sees the ice well and is a fabulous passer. He processes the game at a higher level than Jake virtanen. More over you take on how BB is a perimeter player is flawed. his wrist shot has been lacking this year and most of his goals have come in from the ugly areas. -

still not a proven top line winger. But this whole conversation is insane IMHO. you think teams like tampa and washington, legit top tier teams, want to trade their top line wingers as soon as they think someone can replace them? Those teams hoard young talented forwards, you need as many as you can get....just because Jake is showing promise doesnt mean we do a fire sale with the only other under 25 winger that puts up points. hypothetically if this team misses the playoffs, they win the draft lotto, get lafreniere are you going to want for Petey to be traded? -

and 5 games proves this? Cowan looked like a first line winger for a few games too a few years back. Not saying Jake is Cowan...its an extreme example...but this is way too short of a sample size. Also, you say we have a surplus of wingers. We dont have a surplus of proven top line wingers. Aside from brock we have JT...thats it. -

Funny how you are banking on Jakes past 20 games and have given him all the rope in the world yet Boeser has been putting up the same numbers since day 1 yet you have been down on the kid since day 1. I think you have a dislike for the guy, no matter what you say here....at first you thought he belonged in Utica and ever since then he has been high on your trade bait radar. Hey , we are all entitled to our opinions here...not coming down on you for that. There is not enough evidence to show that Jake will keep this up. I love the kid but I want more proof. Like a full season of first line production. Saying you would trade brock for a top 10 pick with the hope that the top 10 pick turns out anywhere near good as Brock doesnt make sense. Id rather bank on guys like Juolevi working out than gambling on trading one of the best young wingers this Org has ever drafted ...just to create another hole.... -

Come on Stawns...I said first line production. The only guy that has shown me proven first line production is Miller. Other than that I do not think you can win a stanley cup with any of those guys as your first line winger right now. Leivo? Pearson looks like a good second line guy. Hog, Podz and Lind may be great prospects but ive lived through enough Canucks hockey to know what guys like Schroeder, Jensen, Schaeffer, Sandlak etc turned out to be after sounding promising. Boeser is your only proven first line winger. Jake has shown he can put up a 50 point pace so far, nothing more nothing less. Boeser put up 50 points as a rookie. -

who are the wingers that can legit put up top line numbers on this team? -
its alright Alf, you and I are old enough to remember these guys' dads playing in the NHL.
-
hey Alf, i think he meant Louie's kid Jake DeBrusk.

Its crossed my mind too - JV being pumped up and then traded....but he might become too valuable to trade. Regarding Housley - i remember that series well. Jimmy the house Sandlak kept going after him with big hits in the corners. It got so bad that Phil would just leave the puck and get out of the way. QH has lots of Housley's qualities...really reminds me of him. I think the game has changed to the point where you cant have guys charging at the d men anymore. Hughes will do well I think. -

Agree about the shot. We haven’t seen that laser wrist shot for a while. I suspect he may be trying to shoot differently , maybe giving his wrist a chance to recover... pure speculating here ..
