  1. I keep thinking of Brady Tkachuk when I see the skepticism in here. I remember looking at BT's stats and thinking " how the hell is this guy ranked so high". I mean 8 goals at Boston U in 40 games doesnt exactly scream top tier prospect let alone top 5 pick. Then I watched him play a couple games. Excellent from the dots down, and on the walls. Physical. Was hard to move from in front of the net. Distributed the puck effortlessly. Looked like a guy whose game could translate to the NHL. I see a lot of that in Podkolzin. Isnt going to razzle dazzle you like Hoglander but my gut is telling me that Podz game will elevate in the NHL more than Hoglander's game. Ive seen enough of Hoglander-esque performances at the WJC to keep me reserved for now (not saying the kid wont make it, I just dont put a lot of weight into the highlight reel stuff)
  2. The other hypothetical is you are assuming Jake will turn into a top 6 forward that will process the game at that level. He has played a good north south game vs secondary checkers and defenders for 40 games, can he be a reliable producer with more skilled players facing the other teams best defenders and defensive forwards? Boeser already produces in that context and will get better. Jake is a nice piece to have, but Boeser's production is critical for the success of this team.
  3. no doughty? not that I care....just wanted to see Tkachpuke and Doughty on the same team in light of their mutual hate. Hughes + Petey would have been awesome to watch though...
  4. Im not sold on Jake being a top 6 player, and thats what they need. You might be right, if one of the recent picks (Hog or Pod) can replace (BB's) 30 goal production and be a roughly 70-80pt player in their early 20s it might be wise to move an older piece like Brock at that point. But in light of the fact that in this teams 50 year history weve had a scant (to say the least) number of forwards that are putting up BB numbers at his age I wouldnt be willing to bet on that happening.
  5. I wouldn’t bank on anything till I see it. Remember the days of how Hodgson and Schroeder were tearing it up at the wjc. or go back further how jimmy the house sandlak was supposed to make Neely expendable. i wouldn’t trade one of the top players at 22 years old this team has drafted because of some projections. not saying the kids won’t turn out to be excellent players but BB seems to be undervalued by some in here.
  6. Lol I’m on my phone and don’t know how to get the twitter post to show. it basically shows how Jake is out scoring guys like debrincat , skinner, Kessel, Benn etc so far this year

  8. Speaking of 18yr ol Bennett.. was he a scratch? talk about a guy going south. I remember him in Junior followed by his first few months as a Flame. I was concerned that the flames got such a good player, and now he’s trending towards full plug status. and how about JG and Monahan? Flames will never win anything with those guys as their primary offence drivers. Soft as butter and fold like a tent when the going gets tough. I’d take our core kids over theirs. flames spent heavy to build that D and they look like they are going nowhere.
  9. Nothing like a beatdown of the two AHLbertan teams in the past week to wind down the year!
  10. Awarded Player of the game for Sweden.
  11. Thats better than going to Costco today. I got within 200 meters of the parking lot and I turned around when I saw the lineups!
  12. Fantenberg has been solid. I was impressed how he got involved in some of the scrums last night and didn’t back down. Will be interesting to see what happens when Edler gets back. Fant gives green some options..he could throw him in there without hesitation if one of the d is underperforming or needs a rest .
  13. I’m not sure about Alf’s statement... but Craig Button was on 1040 yesterday afternoon raving about Utanen and how much he has progressed since being drafted. edit... found the audio here. Nice talk about podz, Hoglander too https://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040/button-podkolzin-is-a-difference-maker-1.1416079
  14. It’s games like this why I hang around for 45 years Fk yeah !
  15. I wish we had peak brashear around to feed him his lunch.
  16. i think you are over stating how much this happens. Id say half of the time EP is on the ice there is a different defense pairing on the ice. Also, having an offensively gifted d man rush the puck is not unusual. Id rather have QH enter the zone with possession then hand it over to a forward than the meat and potatoes dump n chase that we are seeing so much of.
