so Horvat has been a complimentary player? lol. I think that goal scoring is probably the most important attribute a player brings the the table. The fact that he is top 3 in goal scoring in the whole NHL - and on a historic pace in the context of this francise, takes a million face offs (which probably frees up Petey) and wins most of them, is enough to over ride any deficiencies he has. Its astounding to me that this player is amongst the leagues best, yet that isnt good enough for some. Yeah, but he doesnt hit and fight lol....

its kinda puzzling seeing the sharks circle around certain players this year. Bo Horvat is another example. Kid is on a Pavel Bure goal scoring pace, amongst the best clips/rates of scoring in the 50+ years of this franchise, but he doesnt hit and intimidate enough. Not captain material. Bizarre. If you told me in 2013 that Bo Horvat will turn into one of the league's elite face off centres while sustaining a pavel Bure goal pace during his prime time window...and then in the same breath said there would be an element in the crowd that wont think he is captain material...i would not have believe it. I go into HF BOARDS and see other fan bases assessment of Bo and it is obvious he is highly regarded.

Well Eddie, this is one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL, with one of the worst goalie performances, Id expect some of the forwards not to be lighting it up in the plus minus department. Reminds me of Bo Horvat a few years ago, amongst the leagues worst, even though everyone knew he wasnt that bad. Also, I find your double standard amusing. You attribute his assists/secondary assists to serendipity, but refuse to do the same with his plus minus. If its possible for 'luck' to be the explanation for him getting a point after a couple guys have touched the puck, it is also possible that his plus minus is inflated in the wrong direction after other players, such as the goalie, have not done their job. In light of the fact that defence / goaltending has been horrible this year, id expect some of the players plus minus to be skewed in the wrong direction. That said, I dont have faith in your ability to understand this.

[Proposal] Some Trades to Move Forward - Bo Stays!
Darius replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Gave an upvote because the proposals are thoughtful and there is some strategy behind the thinking. Regarding Kuz...two issues 1) he might be too expensive to sign 2) how do we know he will want to stay here after a full year of seeing how far away this team is from being a serious threat....and touring the NHL for himself. -
agree with your post. The other aspect of the issue, as I see it, is that his weakness are over magnified on this team with its current make up. We have lots of 'skilled wingers' most of which are not good defensively. The d core is a tire fire imho. Goaltending has been average at best on some games, most games its been below par. In such a context BB's deficiencies are emphasized. If he goes to a good team that is better defensively and puts up 25-30 goals, 60 points...something he is perfectly capable of doing, it will look like a steal for them. Especially if hes sold for peanuts. Coz if he coughs up the puck or loses his check at the blue line it will be less likely to end up in the back of the net like what happens here too often. Personally id unload garland before Brock, but I dont think thats going to happen.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
Darius replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Schenn brings a lot of elements to the table that a playoff bound team would love. One of them is toughness. Fights, hits, backs up team mates. Wait a minute...didnt a GM once give up a 1st for Ryan Reaves? If a 1st is offered you would have to take it. -

I dont know what everyone was worried about -
I generally dont mind Friedman, but in this case it isnt rocket science to make up a statement that will turn out to be true...if Boeser gets moved what is the likelihood that the Canucks receive "more" value in the trade...almost none at this point? Me and you can start tweeting these types of predictions lol

its kinda disheartening to see so much of the fan base turn against some of our players. Bo Horvat is on pace to beat or tie Pavel Bure's goal scoring record for this franchise. He probably wont get 60 but 40-50 seems realistic. I try and wrap my head around that. 50+ years of hockey, not many guys have had this sort of historic start- think of all the greats. Naslund, Sedins, Mogilny. He takes a million draws which frees up EP and co to be put in advantageous situations, not only that he shelters Miller from the role ....a role that i dont think he is well suited for. So Its more than just the goals. If he leaves is EP going to fill that role? Add Bo the oilers, a scary thought...they would kill for a guy like that. How about the Avalanche....probably guarantees them another run at the cup. And all this gripe because he wears a letter that is mostly a symbol. I mean people wear the "A" does anybody care? He should hit more and fight more...ok..so if he does all that you basically have what...Eric Lindros? They are asking to create a unicorn here....40-50 goal scorer, fights, hits, intimidates....that would be the best player in the league. LOL.

Garland gets a fraction of the heat that Brock gets around here, i dont know if its the 1.5 million pay difference that puts more of a target on one guys back. I think both of these guys have been a casualty of bad management. Everyone from out of town analysts down to my dad knows this team needs defensive help and some defensive minded forwards. What does the management team do instead, brings in a glut of wingers that need the right conditions to succeed - like playing with top 6 calibre line mates. The domino effect has been saddling BB6 and Garland with dries as a centre ...nobody is particularly good defensively and as a unit they dont seem to have the collection of attributes needed to score goals consistently. Result - both guys are off to terrible starts and their trade values are in the toilet. I mean does anyone think Kuzmenko would have those numbers playing with Dries from the third line? Nothing against the player, just picking on him to make an example...but why did management create this situation? If the plan was to unload a couple wingers for defensive help they surely havent created the ideal conditions to pump these guys value.

I had my gripes with the Benning crew but what I’ve seen from JR and crew is disappointing so far. Bruce is a good man and no matter what happens I’ll always view him in a positive light. They threw him under the bus, and it was no fair. Last year of a contract and he gets criticized by the president via the media early on . Keep that shit behind closed doors. Not only that, how do the players read the situation when the they hear the president trashing the coach via the media. Just amateur crap.- 627 replies
