  9. Check out this mock draft. They have Colorado taking Liljegren, I suppose they need D and they already have good forwards...kinda makes sense. http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2017/3/21/14980914/nhl-mock-draft-2017-trade-deadline-nolan-patrick-hischier-avalanche-simulation-coyotes-lottery-vegas
  10. I knew that Jake had pretty good advanced stats last year, didnt realize how well he did until I came across these stats posted on Jake's brothers twitter (Stefan Virtanen), my apologies if these have been posted somewhere in these 800 pages, but along with Jake's recent improved play these stats should really motivate us to be patient with the guy: Virtanen's Corsi stats from 2015-2016 CF60: 51.18 (5th amongst Canucks forwards)CA60: 49.20 (2nd amongst Canucks forwards)CF%: 51.0 (1st amongst Canucks forwards)CF60 RelTM: 1.90 (6th amongst Canucks forwards)CA60 RelTM: -8.00 (1st amongst Canucks forwards - 12th best forward in the league)CF% RelTM: 4.7% (Tied 1st amongst Canucks forwards w/ Daniel Sedin)
  11. Thats great, but I would still take his opinion a little more seriously than random guys in an internet hockey forum.
  12. Lets agree to disagree. I dont think that Juolevi (or anyone else) is guaranteed to be anything. I also dont think that just because Mete was given a more offensive role on the team that he was a better player. D men are there to play Defence and get puck possession first and foremost.
  13. His rankings list who he thinks the best prospects are that year - if you go back to 2010 his list seems pretty reasonable. The same goes for his list released this year - he is ranking players as he sees them this year. If Mete was better than Juolevi right now how do you think a guy who gets paid to assess talent missed the boat by not only keeping Juolevi in the top 20 (and top 5 of all d men) but not even putting Mete anywhere on the list? Hes not even in the conversation. Is he that out to lunch? It should be simple as realizing that Juolevi plays on the so called second pairing in London? Or maybe there is more to it. (like the others here have been explaining)...? Not only that we have Corey Pronman's list of top prospects - Pronman was kind of critical of Juolevi in his assesment yet he STILL ranks him in the top 25. Again no mention of Mete! So my question to you is how do two guys who get paid to assess talent miss the boat completely here? Shouldnt it be as obvious to them as it is to you that Mete is better? Theses lists arent perfect, and we can argue about where each player should be ranked, but my point is two guys who do this for a living dont even have Mete on their radar. How would that be possible if hes better than Juolevi?
  14. Craig Button watches all of these prospects closely. In his list of top 50 prospects not in the NHL released recently Juolevi was in the top 5 of all d prospects (this includes all d prospects of ALL NHL TEAMS). Maybe you want to email Craig and tell him to revise his list - not only does Mete not crack the top 50, hes not even on Montreal's top 5?. Perhaps Mete, and his 5 foot 10 frame, along with the way he plays has a lower chance of being successful in the NHL? But what does Craig button know anyway.... http://www.tsn.ca/test1-1.677389
  15. Post of the year so far in this thread.
  16. This is exactly it. I think of him as a Sami Salo in the making. Salo didnt put up monster points, nor did he belt players a la Jovo Cop...he almost got 40 points one year, but what he was excellent at was transitioning the puck, making a superb first pass out of the zone, and putting the puck in the right direction for big minutes. Even during those juggernaut years when Salo was out of the lineup the Canucks record was statiscally (proven) not as good. I see Juolevi as a similar smart player that will make the Canucks a better possession team...hes not going to go end to end and rush the puck to the goalie's doorstep, or blasts a gazillion goals Brent Burns style from the point...he will be mostly dependent (points wise) on what the forwards do with the puck once he makes the smart concise play. The fact that he kept his point totals the same in a more defensive role, playing with less talented forwards, isnt as horrible as some would like us to think.
  17. I really wanted to see the guy get that 20th goal....its too bad that his season is done - kind of sums up the canucks this year with their health issues. Oh well, the submarine is now in full dive mode now.
  18. I only have the audio, but it sounds like UND's goalie Johnson is standing on his head in the third...
  19. North Dakota up 1-0 you can listen to it here http://www.undsports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&id=1756807&catid=0&KEY=ALUNTXGUSNLFOLR.20170128024158&DB_OEM_ID=13500
  20. Lol... how true. I created an account to provide a "counter view" of guys like juolevi and granlund but the rabid locals ganged up on me. They love tkachuk more than Calgary fans do..no joke.
  21. Yup, i was very impressed with a couple of the posters in there - this was the best post i have read in a while. Its a mob mentality in there and this guy basically shuts them up.
  22. I was wading through the cesspool known as HFBOARDS in the Juolevi thread - where a vast majority of the "fans" are crying over Chucky Tkachuck, and are constantly cutting Juolevi apart, and found this little gem by a poster named BiTurbo....very sobering opinion which I thought was one of the best I have read in any forum...thought I would share it here: I'm still a bit puzzled as to what exactly some people were expecting from Juolevi this year? He's not some flash and dazzle "offensive defenceman" who is going to just start taking risks, dipsy doodling the puck around down below the opponents goal-line dozens of times a game, blasting howitzers all day to take over games offensively and pile up the points. Especially not on a team that got weaker up front. He's not going to completely change the type of player he is overnight just to ratchet up the box score stats for the fans.He was drafted to be a terrific transition defenceman who matches up defensively, and keeps the puck moving in the right direction for a ton of minutes a night. That may come with a cap on his "offensive ceiling" - where it's always going to be tied to what the forwards in front of him can do with the puck once he's moved it up to them. But these kinds of players are the bedrock of a good puck possession team. It's so funny to me how obsessive and bullish many on these boards often are when it comes to analytics (read: Corsi #s)...adoring these efficient, effective 5v5, puck-moving transition Defencemen. Yet, when it comes to a prospect version of this type of player...can't help but bemoan their lack of gaudy traditional stats and highlight reel plays. There are certainly benchmarks for defencemen CHL production where there are very few success stories below a cutoff line. But sub point per game is not that bar. That production level is an extremely valid concern at the very low end of Jr production. It's a threshold that derives its value largely from weeding out those CHL defencemen who simply lack the puck skills and hockey smarts to pick up even the most basic levels of points at that level. Juolevi is so far clear of that sort of danger zone, it's silly to get bent out of shape over a guy resting at a still plenty healthy .75PPG range, comfortably top-20 in the OHL while playing essentially a matchup role.
  23. And it has worked well for a guy like Adam Larsson, who isnt going to light up the lamp or compete with guys like Doughty and Karlsson in terms of putting up points. Larsson is 6 ft 3 and weighs 205 (see the similarities...its prob the weight Juolevi can aspire to be). Its the guy the oilers traded Taylor Hall for. He was a 4th overall pick. Oiler fans at first thought they gave up the world for a 20pt guy, but has anyone watched him play this year? He is solid and smart and and has turned that D around this year. Not flashy just really reliable and solid. If Juolevi can turn out like him (with maybe a few more points per year) the Canucks will have a fantastic D man.
  24. I stumbled into HF boards - more specifically into a thread about Granlund (and this was in the Canucks section). The tools there were cutting the kid apart, even debating whether trading Shinkaruk for him was worth it. One guy was even proposing putting Granlund on waivers. I had to check the url to make sure I didnt take a detour into the stench pit known as Calgary Puck. Granlund is going to get 20 goals this year, Shinkaruk stinks like an AHL greyhound bus - yet they were talking about Granlund as if he was garbage. HFboards are toilet paper as far as Im concerned. Not even the good toilet paper you get in a 5 star hotel, im talking about the 7th level of a basement parkade public bathroom toilet paper. I would never take anything there seriously. I did create an account just to give it to flames fans over various issues...but ill never take that board seriously. Edit: not meaning to pick on you Guntrix....just venting about HFBoards and the views of the players espoused there.
