Has anyone seen the canucks allow 7 in a period. Last time it happened was in 1985 vs the power house oilers, a team that featured Gretzky, messier et al playing at their peak. Good to know that the powerhouse islanders , the east coast juggernaut, are capable of the same.

Fire gillis. He should not be allowed to represent the canucks at the draft nor should he be allowed to make one more trade. As a matter of fact gillis should not even be allowed back into the arena to clean the urinals.

(Rumour) torts almost removed updated botch
Darius replied to DrChill's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
When he publicly berated Edler and Hansen on the bench, on live TV, I thought Torts would lose the room. Imagine how he is berating them behind closed doors. If he can blow his top and attack an opposing team's dressing room during an intermission imagine how he is spazzing behind closed doors. How would you feel it you were at work and your boss started yelling at you in front of the public and co-workers? Sure these guys make millions and we shouldnt feel sorry for them but they are young guys with no sense of what real life struggles are like - you put a guy in there that yells at them and humiliates them they are bound to shut him off or not go through the wall for him. This is 2014 not 1974. -
Matthias may surprise some people I think.

Attacking an opposing team's locker room during a game?? Nobody wanted Luongo because Gillis gave him an albatross of a contract and in turn he wanted too much in return the first time he tried to trade him. Dont you think that Gillis could have got more for an elite goalie like Schneider? He botched up that trade too. LOL. what do you base this on? A number 2 NHL center? He hasnt played one regulation game yet. You know squat about how he will turn out. Sedins will be traded? How will you trade 14 milion dollars of contracts connected to guys that score every three months? Luongo did not like Vancouver? Perhaps his mood in Vancouver was affected by the fact that he was treated like crap here during the last two years? LOL. You have no idea what you are talking about. Plus, honestly, i find it hard to take anyone with a Hello Kitty avatar seriously.

I think he has had a lot to do with it. Riding those guys for 25 minutes per game, with the style they play (fighting for puck posession on the boards all night vs a floating rushing style takes up a lot more energy) has a lot to do with it. You dont go from Art Ross and Lester Pearson awards to not being able to score for months within such a short time frame. Getting those guys to dump and chase and play half the game with no secondary scoring has destroyed the first line.

Excellent point. AV wasnt that dumb. Everyone was wondering why Garrison wasnt on AV's first PP unit. Garrison is a disaster on the PP. His one timer is attrocious and when he does get a crisp pass from the boards he always has to stop it first then shoot in order for it to have any accuracy. Erhoff, Salo, Malhotra and Torres were major factors in this team's success.

Bravo, these are probably the best statements written in these forums during the past week. The media, mostly the eastern based clowns, constantly need material for their outlets. They have generated most of this Kesler crap.
-
Fire Gillis. 1. Complete botch up of Schnieder/Luongo 2. No secondary scoring since 2011. Even Gillis' dog knows that this team needs someone need to play with Kesler 3. Treating Lou like crap 4. Treating Manny like crap 5. Bringing in the wrong coach for this type of team. 6. Erhoff/Salo walk - no equivalent replacements 7. Getting duped by the Bruins into believing you have to have more goons than skill players 8. How good would Hodgson look down the middle right now. 9. Signing the Sedins long term, but trading assets like Schnieder and Hodgson for long term projects. Is the window open now or in the future? Gillis doesnt know. Gillis needs to go.

Some of it....but i think that the perception that the Canucks feasted on Calgary/Edmonton/Colorado is overinflated. Everyone else in the conference played those teams too....granted not as much....but you dont win Presidents trophies and finish in the top tier for a few years in a row by not being a good all around regular season team. This team hit a wall in January - i think that Torts' system, his miscalculation of western conference travel, coupled with his insistence on riding the same guys for almost half a game every game is largely to blame for this absolute mess. Did he factor in the amount of energy it takes the Sedins to play their type of game before he was riding them like mules? Its no wonder that both of them got injured for significant periods this year and their production has plummeted. Since when do the Sedins play dump and chase. Not trying to be argumentative with you as I do agree that their stats were slightly inflated by the NW division opponents. But I think that there are too many things that have all gone south at the same time to be a coincidence. Torts is not the right guy for this cast of players.

Connect the dots here.... Multiple players having career worst years. Prior to this season Canucks were a top tier regular season team for 3 years in a row. This is essentially the same lineup as the past two years. Why does this team look worse than Buffalo and Edmonton right now? Too many bad things going on for this all to be a coincidence.... I think that the coach has to take the brunt of this. Wrong players for his system. When I saw Henrik dumping it in multiple times during several games I knew Torts has to take some of the blame. Sure Gillis hasnt made the smartest moves, and there wasnt a franchise changing move today but when there is a post mortem and they look at reasons for why the train went off of the rails you have to look at two significant factors: 1. Tortorella and his antics and his system 2. Gillis and his complete butchering of the Schnieder and Luongo saga. Bottom line - this team is not as bad as the standings indicate. Torts and Gilis are the main problems...

LUONGO TRADED to Florida - Official Discussion Thread
Darius replied to -SN-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Well, if Matthias walks and Markstrom turns out to be an AHL goalie I can picture Florida management rolling on the floor laughing everytime the name "Gillis" is mentioned in the coffee room. On second thought Booth might turn it around and score a dozen goals in the remainder of the season...yah right.... -
LUONGO TRADED to Florida - Official Discussion Thread
Darius replied to -SN-'s topic in Canucks Talk
What did you guys expect to get for Luongo? In light of his contract and his age I think Gillis did alright getting some young players back that would love a fresh start. I think that Matthias will surprise some people. -
This is a gong show. Thanks Gillis, you have run the team so far into the ground (one of the worst NHL teams in 2014) that the only entertainment the fans have left is dreaming up all sorts of trades to alleviate the sadness of seeing what the team has turned into. Guys, ill believe it when I see it. There are three possibilities here: 1. Gillis gets fleeced - this has happened before 2. Gillis does nothing - this has happened before 3. Gillis is the benefactor of a good hockey trade. Spin the wheel and lets see where it lands...

Who is Torts going to ride like a horse if Kesler gets traded? What im afraid of is that this down turn is largely related to Torts' system and coaching style. Ride three guys for 25+ minutes per game for weeks on end, 2 of those guys (Sedins) hit a wall in January and get injured because their style of play takes up vastly more energy than a rushing forward like Kesler, meanwhile get your D to dive in front of pucks and get beat up and battered.....the 2011 team would be out of gas by now too.... Whoever they bring here better be young and fit because they will be driven like a rented mule.....

I think that Gillis needs to play NYR, Philly, Pitts against one another. I see NYR as the dark horse... On a different note the Canucks currently sit in 20th place in the NHL and have played 2 or more games than many of the teams trailing them by a small margin. If they carry on with their 2014 pace it is quite conceivable that the Canucks could get a top 5 pick. If Gillis is smart he will unload luongo, Kesler, Edler for prospects and young roster players, plus he will potentially get a high top 10 pick as the result of this year's regular season - this boat can be turned around in a hurry if Gillis has some competence.
-
This all reminds me of when I was 10 years old and I thought that big box under the Christmas tree was the Millennium Falcon and it turned out to be a set of 5 frisbees each of a different color.. This is Gillis we are talking about, either the return will underwhelm us or nothing is going to happen.

Is Luongo sitting out again because he's in play?
Darius replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Canucks Talk
I agree... I meant first round pick....in pittsburgh's case it will certainly be in the 20+ overall range....a player that may pan out in about 5 years... -
Is Luongo sitting out again because he's in play?
Darius replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Canucks Talk
Luongo's comment about Kesler certainly doesnt help his situation - the fact that he is not playing in the third game in a row shows that he is done here. Lack is the supposed backup and he is playing in a high profile game today, Luongo must be on his way out. Either next week or at the end of the season. Would anyone trade bad contract for bad contract? I betcha Torts still fancies Lecavalier from his Tampa stanley cup. Maybe a Kesler deal that includes Luongo would involve multiple players coming back including Vinny and his contract. It might be a win win because Philly would get a proven starting goalie and one of the premiere 2 way players in the game. I hope that the pittsburgh rumours arent true = Brandon Sutter + 2014 first overall + a dman ...that would bury this team Alberta style for years. Gillis should be fired on the spot if he does that - not only that he should be forced to move out of the province. -
I think that he had to resign them - who else would he get to replace them. Even if he let them walk and it freed up 14 million in salary which UFAs could he sign to make up a legit first line? This hasnt exactly been a hotbed for elite first line UFAs - I cant think of many top tier forwards that have signed here in the whole history of the club... I think that nobody expected that the Sedins would be this average. Gillis' only logical move was to sign them again ...the mistake was 4 years....and he could have probably played hardball for the 7million knowing that other clubs would have to take them both for them to be effective (he could have probably used this as leverage to sign them for less)
-
If the Sedins were in the top 15 in points would we even be having this conversation? 4 years at 14 million per year, while playing like this, will mangle this team until their contracts are up....unless the Canucks can pick up some prospects that start scoring 20+ goals a year for cheap.... How much of the blame for this can we put on Gillis? How can he not re-sign the Sedins in light of their past 5 years...but how can he give up so much for so long to sign them? Its a tough spot to be in I suppose...
