  1. Geez, i remember the same talk around Trevor Linden starting in the 95 season and up till he was traded. Too soft, doesnt lead, doesnt fight. I think Bo is a decent 2nd line centre and probably a really good 3c (on a really good team). It doesnt help that he is saddled with Pearson and a revolving door of wingers on the opposite wing. Bo is the type of player that will elevate his game in the playoffs, we have seen it on the occasions that the Canucks have actually made the playoffs. In 2015 I thought he outshone any of Calgary's young players, 18 year old included. In the bubble he was a beast. Anyhow, the following is a link to the Canuck usenet newsgroup - it was the first Canuck forum on usenet/internet, and existed way before this website. Have a look at what fans were saying about Linden in the mid-late 90s, and see the parallels here. Then ask yourself was the criticism warranted? I think we are doing the same thing now. (warning...there were no moderators back then so some of the language is foul ;-) https://groups.google.com/g/alt.sports.hockey.nhl.vanc-canucks/c/W7JVKsUiHO8/m/2cV328bY4D4J https://groups.google.com/g/alt.sports.hockey.nhl.vanc-canucks/c/r1a7ihYtfkA/m/AYaYJi53PRAJ
  2. now if it were uncle laleet I would be sure it was going down!
  3. The defence is not the sole problem, but at the same time I think demko covers up a lot of the mess back there. Offence also starts from defence in many cases. Some of the guys cant put together a good pass out of the d zone, the puck is handled like a hand grenade or its just dumped out and possession is handed back to the other team. There are other occasions where the puck is in the o zone, it ends up back at the point only for a muffin to be launched at the net. This is a multifaceted problem where some major components of the team/org have failed.
  4. Whats frustrating for me to see is Tanev in Calgary. Calgary is a top team in the conference and Tanev is their best overall d man. He hasnt been injured because hes not subjected to the collapsing passive system the Canucks played here where the guy was treated like a human pin cushion. So 10 years of Tanev sacrificing his body as a Canuck and they didnt even make a serious offer to keep him. Yeah lets give other sub par players the money instead. Instead he walks and goes and makes a direct rival better. Imagine how much better it would be for Hughes to have Tanev around right now. Too many mistakes to defend here. Benning has to go,.
  5. Button is on Donnie and Dhali right now, ranting about the atrocious Canuck blue line. "They have cornered the market on bottom pairing D men". Its one of the things I agree we Button on. There are arguably only 2 top 4 d men on this team. Poolman and Myers are not top 4 d men. Coaching might be garbage but Benning has failed constructing this team, and he is in year 8.
  6. I think that 3 calder candidates in a row plus the bubble gave me an unrealistic projection of this team. In retrospect superb goaltending and a bunch of glue guys that could win draws, block shots and take on the burden of dzone starts (beagle, sutter, edler, tanev) were what was keeping this team from being really bad like it is now. its a poorly constructed team. no toughness, no real 3c, only 2 legit top 4 d men...I dont see how Benning can be supported anymore.
  7. i was thinking this too. maybe nobody gets fired because the guy who can do the firing has been calling the shots all along.
  8. Well, we are witnessing history. Historically bad team. Ive seen a lot of bad Canuck hockey in the past but eventually coaches and gms were held accountable and were fired. Some were fired for less than this:
  9. Green needs to be fired. That said it all starts at the top. 8 years in and the team looks like embarrassing tripe. No more excuses. Time to clean house
  10. I think Petey needs a summer chopping wood and digging deep holes in a mountain side with Gary Roberts
  11. This is greens coaching strategy. Tire the other team out by letting them dominate.
  12. i get the feeling that the rival Flames like Benning: Markstrom and Tanev walked in the front door as UFAs. Tanev playing shutdown role and Markstrom leading league in shut outs. Tkachuk - dont need to say much. Andersson, young RHD playing top 4 minutes- the second rounder that was traded to the flames for Baertschi Yeah im partly joking, but at the same time its frustrating to see.
  13. BB doesnt get enough respect IMHO. "Cant skate" "Weak on the boards" "Cant pass" Yet....here he is.... First Table = Point production for all R/W forwards in the NHL since BB's first NHL season. Brock Boeser ranks 10th. He ranks 9th if you sort by points per game with at least 250 games played. Second Table= Goal production for all R/W fowards in the NHL since BB's first NHL season. Brock Boeser ranks 9th (and look who he is ahead of). Hes played less games than most of those ahead of him on this list. Last chart = Puck Battles. Players with highest percentage puck battle wins 2020-2021 season. My position is that if he returns to his average point/goal production rate the QO wont look so absurd. And even if he doesnt I suspect the team can negotiate a structure where the term and annual pay make sense for both parties. At the end of the day what will it cost to move up this list of R/W to get someone that produces the same or more?
  14. I agree, especially with the bolded part. Patience is required here, especially if they decide to move on from some key players. They are dealing from a position of weakness and they will increase their leverage if they wait till the trade deadline when all the big players (teams that are positioning for runs) are circling all wanting to add key players.
  15. 7.5 will be steep if he continues to play like this, no doubt. I still dont know enough about how qualifying offers work...for instance if he underproduces can they offer him a lower amount for a longer term and everything is ok as long as he accepts it? But for arguments sake... In the big picture, on a sample larger than,....you know,..16 games this year, Boeser's worst season is still 6 points ahead of Garland's best season. Garland is about a year older so they are roughly the same age. So its easy to compare output of guys playing on relatively bad teams. Boeser led the team in scoring last year. He has put up 20+ goals in all but one season. The arguments that he cant make plays , doesnt have good hands, and cant win board battles are exaggerations and are tainted by what has happened here in the past 4 weeks. How do you consistently put up 20+ goals and lead an NHL team in scoring if you are so bad? I agree Boeser needs to be better. I get it that people are excited about guys like Garland, Podkolzin and Hogz...but id be careful before thinking these guys make anyone expendable especially after only 19 games. Hogs and Podz for instance have never been goal scorers in their previous leagues. Lets not forget EP and Boeser looked like all stars for long stretches, longer than any of Hogs, Pods, and Garland have.
  16. This only makes sense from Wild's point of view. Fiala has never produced more than 54 points and is a winger. If you are going to move arguably your "best bang for the buck" piece right now the deal should address the blatant holes in the Canucks lineup. Defence and 3c. More specifically top 4 defence. We have players on the wing ....
  17. If there is a trade please address the weaknesses ...top 4 d and 3c.  We dont need another small winger.

    1. Devron

      Devron

I’d trade a second rounder to for a new coach. That’s the trade I’d be ok with

    2. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Arizona already has this year's second rounder, can we just give away Chiasson instead?

  18. I think we can write a thesis on Benning and all the moves that have resulted in where the team sits today - its not a good situation. Regarding the QO, i think i need to know two things before forming a stronger opinion on Boeser 1. Can the team take an under performing player to to Arbitration to argue against the QO (I think they can but not 100 percent sure) 2. Does the player take the QO with him to a new team. Say they trade Boeser to another team, is the other team on the hook? If this is the case it will make it a lot harder to move an underperforming player. In any case, IMHO the best move is to move Miller (if coaching change doesnt work first lol)
