  1. There was an article in the province about Miller and Minnesota too. When a team is in the basement the vultures will circle - especially if other GMs perceive a weakness in management. Id like to see a new coach before any significant players are moved, hell Id like to see a new GM before any significant pieces are moved. That said, if anyone is moved I hope its to shore up the very below average D core. Also, be careful about moving a guy that has proven he can score up till about 3 bloody weeks ago, and the guy that lead the team in scoring last yeaqr. I suspect Boeser is a 30 goal scorer on a good team. I see posters thinking Hogs, Podz and Klimovich make Boeser redundant. No they dont, none of those guys have ever scored at his pace (probably at any level) and none of those guys really project to be a first line winger.
  2. i used to make fun of the oilers being out of it by end of November every year, yet here we are. I wonder if we will follow the same trajectory as the oilers where they traded core players to rebuild the rebuild.
  3. I was really pulling for Benning in the first 5 years. He’s a good honourable man, I even remember him playing for the Canucks. this is Year 8 . there are no more excuses. We really only have 2 top 4 dmen. None are really in the pipe unless Woo pans out. Hes been decent at the draft table but when you draft in the top quarter of each round for multiple years you are gonna find good players. Where are the players from later rounds that the org has developed? I’m not talking about guys that hit the ground running like Ep, Boeser, Hughes … where are the guys developed in the ahl that have succeeded look at Calgary.. Mangiapane, Andersson and Kylington drafted and developed in their system and are playing big roles. None if which were high draft picks. And that’s just Calgary.. every good team has players they have developed. In this context is Bennings drafting really that great? or how do you let previous core players, guys the org has stuck by for years and are true difference makers walk to UFA and you get nothing out of it. Marky, Edler, Tanev.. all gone for nothing. Yeah the team wanted to take a run at the playoffs with those guys but was it the right time of this cores lifecycle … obviously not The problems all start at the top.
  4. green is in over his head. Better coaches have been fired for less I bet
  5. I kinda agree with this because when ep and Boeser are together 3v3 they show great creativity and attack the net. They aren’t afraid to think out of the box and they usually dominate. I get the feeling they have the green light to do what they want ias opposed to playing the system 5v5 they dump in too much and neither of them are particularly good at puck retrieval
  6. So how do you explain EP winning the Calder with no Miller and mostly Boeser on his line?
  7. You beat me to replying with pretty much same ideas regarding Miller His age and the fact you wouldn’t be selling low make him the prime candidate to move, He would be the most attractive to teams because he still has one year at relatively low cap hit left. There is no way I see him sticking around here when he goes to ufa even if the team is average. that said I would change the coach before any trades. It might just ignite some positive ideas and changes , enough to pull this team out of the basement. as for bb, id be careful. I suspect he’d turn it around in a hurry on a good team , edler , Tanev, marky and Schmidt are all key players on their teams because they play on well coached well managed teams. BB was one of our best players last year and top point getter.. with some confidence and a better roster he’d do well. I’d be careful thinking that Hogz and or podz can take over top line scoring from the wing. Those guys have never been high end scorers at any pro level.
  8. It’s rather amusing how posters are willing to drive some players to the airport after less than 1/4 of the season, guys that have been great for long stretches, but that same lack of patience doesn’t apply to the gm who has managed the team into the bottom of the barrel after almost 8 years.
  9. No more excuses. It all starts at the top. Year 8 of this regime and they are bottom of the barrel in the nhl and look just as bad, if not worse, than year 1. Benning assembled this team, Benning hired the coach. Time to clean house.
  10. That’s why Miller has to be the first guy to be traded.
  11. Just watching a bunch o Saturday games. watching how good teams penalty kill. They are so much more aggressive than the Canucks. Constant pressure on the player possessing the puck. Contrast that with how the Canucks collapse into a tight box and let the teams do whatever they want on the Perimeter. It’s so awful to watch. This is how they defend 5v5 too. Coaching … yeah I know I’m Beating a dead horse !
  12. Im superstitious! they should keep bringing back the chuckling anthem singer till they lose at home! our good luck charm That said, the passive d...almost cost us again.
  13. Yup and every team has a Dhillon or two who will take extra liberties when there’s absolutely no deterrent… ( well maybe Demko is a good scrapper lol)
  14. No Miller… imho that’s a good thing. I think he overwhelms pp1 by trying to be the general.. and too many bad decisions
  15. I never thought id get excited about even thinking of Sutter, Beagle, Edler jumping over the boards. Guys that can play D, win draws block shots kill penalties, take the brunt of D zone starts. Wont even get started on Tanev. Those guys kept us respectably bad...didnt let too many losses mount up , this surely helped alleviate the younger players from feeling the heat and letting the pressure mount. I swear half the problem (aside from the trash passive system) with the PK is Myers. Just awful at clearing the puck, handles it like a grenade. This is year 8 and outside of Hughes (who was an NHLer from the start) they havent been able to develop any reliable 3,4,5,6 d man. And who is in the pipe? I guess our hopes rest on Woo.
  16. I dunno.. guy on the house broadcast deflecting the blame from coach and manager.. he might get promoted… hell… he might be the new PK coach next year.. another x Canuck player.. perfect!
  17. Lots of 80s teams on that list. They prob had to face Gretzky in his prime. There was more scoring in the league too. this years debacle still takes the cake I think!
  18. The way I look at it is they will lose him to UFA at the end of next season if they do nothing. Might as well sell high .. this team has too many holes to be any sort of threat before his contract is up. I like the passion the guy brings to the game but sometimes you got to do the hard cold math.
