  1. They didn’t face the other teams best checkers and get the primary minutes to be exposed in either. Petey doesn’t have the luxury of playing behind other lines that are expected to score like the sedins and naslund did. Kid has been in a slump no doubt but he has shown us WAY more than the three others you have mentioned up to his age. not saying he will turn out better over the long term but the three we are talking about were sheltered far more at Peteys age
  2. Have a look at what the sedins and naslund were producing at his age. That would be a fairer comparison. Also at his age they were never tasked with being the primary offensive threat on a first line.
  3. 0-4 to start the season at home if this holds up. Even the paper bag o shame teams of the past had better starts.
  4. I bet they haven’t lost 4 home games in a row to start the season since the 80s this is historically bad . Megna and chaput are like Gretzky and Lemieux compared to this
  5. Chiasson was successful one year on the pp in Edmonton where he was playing with McD and draisaitl and now green thinks he’s a pp specialist But to be fair a number of them suck on that first unit pp right now
  6. That year the top Montreal scorer was like 25th in NHL scoring, without Roy they wouldnt get a sniff of that cup. Multiple OT games where he stood on his head, they were outclassed in so many games but Roy was unbreakable and ended up with the Conn Smythe. I agree with your position that the Canucks probably wouldnt have lasted 7 games vs Las Vegas without stellar goaltending. The way I look at it is the team shouldnt be discounted because a goalie stands on his head. Its no different than a forward carrying a team.... Part of the problem is the collapse 5 man d system the Canucks played. The goalies get shelled from the perimeter. I know they were also giving up high danger chances but the goalies performance is exaggerated somewhat when the team gives up so many shots.
  7. Being in the Pacific Coliseum 1994 - Game 5 Canucks vs Leafs. Canucks were down 3-0 after the first. They came back and tied it. Greg Adams scored in OT to send the Canucks to the finals. The crowd went absolutely nuts. I read later that Tim Hunter skated by the laffs bench and told Pat Burns (RIP) to go warm up the bus after the Canucks scored.
  8. You are entitled to your opinion. Analytics are used to a certain extent in all major sports. This is a hockey forum where it should not be surprising that stats are posted. The chart shows the Canucks have been garbage ( using your terminology) 5 v 5 and worst in the nhl by that particular measure. I doubt this contradicts what you have seen.
  9. Sorry heffy I’ll keep it high level like you do from now on
  10. agree with your views on Miller. Hed be the first player I would trade that still could fetch a nice return. Besides his behavior, my concern is the Miller we see now is the true Miller and the one excellent year he had here was an aberration. The Miller we see this year, and saw last year, is the version of Miller that got him traded out of NY.
  11. I think this is an excellent point and cant be emphasized enough. Looking at that 2013 team, the age of the players, the state of the prospect pool, it looked like a tough task to turn the franchise around. But here is my dilemma....at what point can we start expecting more? In my mind last year was the last year of sanctuary the GM and Coaching staff got. They have picked top 10 multiple times, they have traded high value assets to bolster the young players with players that are a little older and can produce immediately. Do you think its ok at this point to miss the playoffs again? (genuine question for you because I consider you one of the more knowledgable posters) And to make things more questionable, I think its highly possible that this start could be just a blip. Get the top line going, get motte and sutter back for penalty killing and they could be off to the races.
  12. Im not sure, and I only say that because I think this team on paper is better than what it has shown. If Benning choses a new coach and the team turns it around it proves that the current coach cant direct the team correctly. If the team still flounders...well...thats when the axe comes out and Benning should go. I think Benning deserves the benefit of the doubt because the roster looks like it can do better. At the same time some other posters have made valid points. What if EP and BB were playing at levels we saw them play at in the past, would they even be in this hole? What if we had sutter and Motte... Im not sure. At some point the what ifs and the excuses need to end and someone needs to be accountable.
  13. yup i agree. should have made it clearer in my point above. I would remove Green first and see how a new staff would do ....
  14. this is a fair point, and has caused me to think about it several times in the past. But I look at it this way, other than the year Willie got the last gasp out of the sedins, Benning has had the luxury of picking top 10 every year up to the year he decided the core was set and he could trade first rounders to bolster the team. 2014- 6th 2015- 23rd 2016-5th 2017-5th 2018-7th 2019-10th 2020 - traded 2021- traded Thats a lot of high draft picks, some of which would be top 3 in a re-draft. At what point can we expect to have a decent team? Forget being a contender, im talking about being a middle of the pack team that can win on any given night. I think my position is, from this point forward, if they miss the playoffs again the owner needs to clean house starting with management. In what world does Benning deserve a decade to turn a franchise around...this is year 8.
  15. I get the sense that patience is wearing thin amongst the fan base. In previous years I was willing to wait it out knowing that we have upcoming prospects in the system and multiple place holder players that will be replaced with younger better players (think mdz, gagner, pouliot etc). The core is in place now. During the past few seasons Benning has traded organizational capital in the form of high draft picks and prospects to bolster the core because this is "the team" more or less. This is the hand he is going in with. We should bloody well expect more than "oh its great that they hung in there with a good oiler team" Yet here we are again floundering. The following is an eye opening table. How much more losing will we have to endure? I think this is why you see / hear fed up fans no matter where you look (all internet forums, the radio etc) The teams with the lowest number of out right wins since 2015. Remove the two expansion teams.... Edit: actually pay attention to the expansion teams. Vegas is about to over take the Canucks, and they have played hundred something less games during the time span.
  16. Agree with many of your points.. we more or less agree I suspect. This may be an unpopular take.. but here it goes. And this is hard for me coz i think Benning is a good man and I have defended him so many times in the past. i agree that he has assembled a decent roster, but imho that should be expected of practically any average gm who has had the opportunity to pick top 10 so many times, sometimes we act like finding a hoglander or a demko in the second round is a big feat but I’m sure most teams have found some good players beyond round one in almost a decade, But this is a results business. this is year 8 and counting, he has gone all in now that he has traded multiple first rounders to bolster the core. This is the hand he is going in with and so far it looks worse than it did a couple years ago. As fans we shouldn’t be satisfied with “they gave a good oiler team a good fight “ at this point. The core is in place, they have been surrounded with players that cost a lot of capital in the form of high draft picks - go time is now. At the end of the day if they miss again this year he should be canned. We can probably come up with a bunch of gms who were given less of a runway and were canned for less. i hope this ages poorly and I’ll gladly eat these words if they turn it around but the longer they wait to act and do something the further behind they will get. id give green till the end of this home stand, first step would be to can him if they continue to flounder. miss the playoffs and aqua needs to clean management house.
  17. Year 8 of this regime. this is a results business. They look terrible. no more excuses, the guy at the top assembled the roster and hired the coach. Benning needs to be accountable. Miss the playoffs again after going all in with multiple first rounder trades in the past couple years and he needs to be let go.
